雅思议论文范文1 科技Topic 1 Leisure becomes a growing industry. People no longer used to entertain themselves as before because modern technology made them not any more. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Leisure industry is now growing faster than ever. But with modern technology finding its way into every household, people have changed the way they entertain themselves. To begin with, teenagers are spending increasingly longer hours playing computer games. Computer game first made its appearance in China more than fifteen years ago. Back then, it was expensive because children had to play in arcades lined with huge coin-operated machines. But now millions of families own computers or game stations. Game titles are widely available for people of different age. Moreover, computer games are more fun and affordable. So while children in the past read books or played dirt war and ball games, children now choose to sit in front of computers playing games. In fact, they have become so obsessed with computer games that this has now become a social problem of a global scale. Moreover, adults watch TV in increasingly higher number and for unprecedented longer hours than they did before. Years ago, people did not have a lot of channels to watch. But now, we could zap through more than 50 channels for good programs. Moreover, people are under greater pressure than before. Even if many love to go outdoor to enjoy beautiful views and fresh air, they often finally stay home to save energy for work. Finally, technology itself aims to change peoples entertainment. Now very few of us have ever watched an opera or concert in a theater because it is more time consuming and, more importantly, expensive. But with the invention of movie, people started to switch to movie houses. TV then replaces movie as the number one entertainment, which has been caught up by computer-based pastime activities like Internet surfing. We now have more options for leisure activities than before, but we still maintain many old ways such as reading a good book or playing sports. To sum up, technology has greatly changed how people spend leisure time. While they spend more and more time in front of computer or TV, they still entertain in the traditional ways such as reading, traveling and sports.Topic 2 The age of Information Technology has taken a lot of people by surprise. While it has become a way of life for some, others know very little about it and may be unlikely to learn. Eventually we will have a polarized society and this will lead to serious social problems. To what extent do you agree with this statement? At the mercy of the ever-accelerated advancement of the information technology, great changes have occurred in almost every sphere of our life. Apparently, some people havemanaged to be perfectly adapted to this completely new era, and a few of them evendevelopedtheir talent for the information technology as their lifetime career. However, there still exist a number of people who have little access to the advanced technology and are unlikely to be able to learn it in the future as well. Thus, this disquieting fact has inevitably led to our concerns that a polarized society with terrible social problems is approaching. It is without denying that the advent of the new era has brought about the ever-greater wealth for human beings. This has led some people to easily assume that a better life has been created for every member of the society. But pause and reflection! While consideringthe distribution of the wealth, these people may not be so optimistic. According to the research carried out by Sus* University in London, the great growth in gross domestic product has not resulted in the wealth being spread evenly across the population, to be exact, with 2% top incomes taking away 71% of the increased wealth. Therefore, we can hardly be surprised to observe that while the rich have benefited a lot from the rapid development of the information technology, the poor have struggled to attain the thinnest fruit. It can never be something surprising with regard to the mere fact that at the time a rich businessman is busy with his well-equipped commercial computer to harness the power of the internet to carry on his business, a typical poor man are making great efforts to hunt for his next meal. Maybe this seemingly strange society is just following the law of Matthew effect, that is to say, those that have will have it more abundantly, whereas those that have not will have even that which they have taken away. All these on-going trends will inexorably give rise to a polarised society with the rich and poor placed on two extreme positions, which may form a negative confrontation between the two poles and result in some serious social problems. Topic 3 Motorized flight is the greatest invention in the history. No other invention exerts greater impact. Do you agree or disagree?New scientific inventions have dramatically changed the way people live. Motorized flight is one of the key inventions in the history of technology. However, as far as I am concerned, the impact of motorized flight can be not considered the greatest among all inventions.Apart from the motorized flight, other inventions have contributed enormously to our everyday life as well. Especially since the “industrial revolution” took place, our lives have been made much more convenient by inventions such as trains , computers and internet. Each invention has its different functions and works in different fields. As a result, it is hard to compare that which one exerts greater impact. Even a pair of chopsticks has impacted for almost 5000 years on the habit how people eat in China. In addition, we should not only focus on the motorized flight itself to announce that it is the most important invention. Admittedly, it made the dream of human being become true, which people had been dreaming for so long to fly in the sky. From thunder and lightning to the electrical light, from the invention of the wheel to the car, and of course, without the invention of the screw; nail; hammer and motor, there will be no airplane. In conclusion, the steps of inventing new products will never stop in our fast-developing society. Without suggesting all the inventions are equally good, I think we should not ignore other small inventions as well, because every invention can be our friends and support our way of life. 2 教育Topic 4 University students now focus on a special subject. Some people believe that universities should encourage their students to study a whole range of subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Nowadays, many students spend time concentrating on their majors while neglecting the study of other subjects. This phenomenon has attracted peoples attention on whether or not the universities should encourage students to study all the subjects available for them. Some people claim that studying a whole range of subjects may divert students attention on their majors, making the students good at nothing. Some people, on the other hand, contend that learning a variety of things is good for the students development. Speaking for myself, I take sides on the latter.First of all, learning various subjects can extend students scope of knowledge. People might never realize how little they know about certain things until they read articles or books relevant and even worse when conversations start. Extensive reading of different subjects can help to release the inferior complex when such situation occurs. They may also be proud of themselves and become confident in study since they know a lot. In addition, some subjects can teach students how to balance work and life, comment current affairs and cultivate students common sense of life as well. All these benefits can make students become knowledgeable.Learning a range of subjects can also add spice to the students studies. Students may be fed up with study when they concentrate on a special subject constantly to the exclusion of other subjects. Despite the fact that studying many subjects can occupy part of the time for students to study their majors, it can facilitate the students to enrich their campus life and maintain their interest in study. Most important of all, studying more can cultivate students logical thinking and make them become more creative and competent, which is of great significance to their further development. It is commonly believed that most of the subjects are linked to each other, to some extend. With a range of knowledge, students can find different solutions to approach the problems they encounter either at work or in life, which will definitely make the students more creative and innovative in the field they specialize in. Clearly, the students with all-around knowledge have an apparent advantage over those specializing in only one subject. Thus, students should make effort to acquire more knowledge in their study periods so that they will not be eliminated in the severe competition in the era of information explosion. In a word, studying a variety of subjects is beneficial to the university students. In this case, not only can the students better themselves, but also become adaptable and flexible in the increasingly challenging and competitive world. It is advisable that students spend time learning more subjects instead of focusing on a specific subject, so that they can prepare themselves and cater for the even-accelerated society.Topic 5 Some people think that schools should make a balance between both academic subjects and other ones rather than only emphasizes on academic learning. What do you think? What is the most significant factor in influencing the shaping of characters and personality of a child? Do academic subjects really render everything necessary for childrens all-round development? Most schools put major emphasis on academic teaching because it is believed that academic subjects can guarantee better future careers. However, in fact, other subjects such as literature, music and sports, are more crucial to childrens development for they can give children many things beyond academic learning, including teamwork spirit, endurance and healthy physical body.It is true that academic subjects can teach children some fundamental knowledge and they can get further education and skills with such knowledge. But I dont think academic learning can necessarily ensure better future careers. Academic learning is like the fundamental structure of architecture, it can only be improved and perfected by some other decorations, and that means it is supplementary subjects that can refine a childs development. Learning literature can make children sensitive to things around them and teach them to be careful observers; music can tell children how to relax them selves and get inspirations through the power of it; sports can build strong wills and bodies for children for it shows to them the spirit of endurance and teamwork. We know that all these qualities are badly needed in childrens social lives in the future, especially when they get along or work with other people, when they confront difficulties or obstacles, and so on. What our society needs are not people who know nothing besides their textbooks, but people who know how to apply what they learn, know how to appreciate and endure in their lives, that means people with full sensibilities and practical skills; all these are not things children can learn from academic subjects. In conclusion, I think schools should reach a balance between academic subjects and other ones, so that we can expect new generations with all-round development. Topic 6 What can education bring us? Is “high mark” the real destiny of education? As researchers and scholars are investigating this subject, the accurate definition of education begins to have slight difference from what was in peoples mind before. Education, the bridge between teachers and students, the mediator between individual and society, means more than knowledge transmit, but being a wholly developed person in the society.First, education brings us basic knowledge and skill to survive. From primary school on, students learn subjects like Math, Physics, English, or in other words, academic subjects to gain the initial knowledge of the nature and world, which are extremely useful for our future career. Upon this, students also learn skills like sewing, cooking, and mending bicycles, which help them a lot in their future family life. To this extend, education provided us with fundamental concepts of living.Second, education can cultivate our sentiment. Apart from academic subjects, art subjects such as music and art seems more interesting toward students. From these subjects, one can enjoy the pleasure of listening to music, try to guess a composers emotion when writing a music chapter, or understand the meaning of a piece of drawing, from which process they themselves are edified and assimilated, and finally have their own clear opinion on what is beauty.Third, education makes an individual adapted to the society. Being innocent and naive, young people always find it hard to immerge into the complicated environment, and feel frustrated. Through education like communication skills, students may know the essence of getting on with other people. This kind of education influences our personality and views everyone as a whole individual in the big family of society.Above all, knowledge, emotion, and personality form the most important part of the content of education. The aim of education is to teach a person become a completely developed individual. Topic 7 It is right that college graduates earn higher salaries than the less well-educated in the community. But they should also pay the full cost of their study. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Some conclude that college students should bear total expenses for their higher education on the generalization that college graduates usually receive higher salaries for similar jobs than those without a college degree. We can not deny the fact that higher level of education, indeed, do associate with better income. Still, build on such fact alone, the conclusion remains questionable when more aspects are taken into consideration. The whole argument in question rests on an assumption that it is always the case that people with higher education make more money than those less well-educated. But salary or income is, in most cases, based on contributions made by employees to companies or organizations in which they are employed. Statistics in the labor market indicate that people with professional training tend to find jobs easier than college graduates do and that blue-collar workers who do not hold college degrees are becoming the hottest in the labor market. Employers prefer to hire and pay more to highly skilled and specially trained people rather than fresh college graduates. In the auto industry, for instance, skilled technicians make two or three times more than their college educated counterparts who make the average salaries in other companies. And it is widely accepted that peoples income is determined more by talent, hard work, and willingness to take risks than solely by certain qualifications such as college education. Otherwise, the unemployment rate of college graduates would not be increasing every year and the rule of supply and demand will lose much of power in controlling the labor market. Admittedly in some knowledge extensive field such as research, teaching, and practice of law the labor force are primarily consists of highly educated professionals. But such people make up only a fraction of the labor market and are thus unrepresentative of the whole employment in general. Considering the goal of education, we find that it is even more problematic for the country to throw all the responsibility of financing college education to college students. The goal of higher education of a nation is to improve and strengthen the general level of intellectual and professional capacity of its labor force, thereby increasing the competency of the nation in the global economy. As tax payers, parents all contributes to the education system and country in various ways. It is only reasonable and necessary that the country gives some forms of financially assistance to students to ease the burden of rising education costs. Such help should go to not only students from needy or impoverished families but also outstanding students from affluent backgrounds. Doing so can significantly boost the motivation of children from millions of families to engage in higher level of study. It is understandable that the general quality of people in a country will improve and its economy will benefit both now and in years to follow. If the burden of supporting childrens higher education is dumped on parents and students, thousands of brilliant students will be deprived of chances to pursue their academic inspiration. Among those who suffer would definitely be future great scientists, business managers, artists and statesmen. The loss will be disastrous and irreversible. In conclusion, the idea that students should also pay the full cost of their study is wrong and harmful because it is wrong to assume that higher education necessarily equalize high income. Moreover, it is in the best interest of a nation to take responsibility in financing college education so that the goal of higher education will be better met. 3 社会生活Topic 8 A balanced diet, or eating balanced meals, is the key to a healthy life. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer.Although a balanced diet is important, there are other factors which contribute to a healthy life. People in some cultures do not eat a b
