In an effort toreduce heating costs, the university plans to lowerthe temperature in all classroom buildings onweekends and on weekdays after five P.M., when the days classes have officially ended.Because classes will not be in session at these times, the reduced hear should have nonegative impact on students and their studies. The university considers it essential that thecost-saving measures not interfere with student activities. 听力原文: Now listen to two students discussing the article. (woman) What on earth is the university thinking? (man) Huh? What do you mean? (woman) Well, those buildings arent just used forclasses. Thats where my evening study groupusually meets. (man) Oh, of course, thats true. But you could go to the library instead. (woman) Yeah, but the library only has a few rooms that people can use for group meetingswhich is why classrooms are so convenient. But now, if its winter and cold, where can we go? (man) Right! In the middle of winter, forget it! Or even its just kind of cold out. (woman) Itd be pretty unpleasant. (man) Oh, but still, they obviously have to do something about the situation. (woman) Oh, I agree. They have to do something but they should find a solution that isnt sodisruptive, to academics no less. (man) Such as? (woman) Well, for one, if they replaced all those o ld windows, they are so drafty. They let thecold in. And if they insulated the buildings better, these are really old buildings. Charming, but, (man) But not at all energy-efficient, yeah, youre probably right. (woman) Therere some really basic improvements they can make thatll make a huge differencein the long term that can solve the problem and still leave us somewhere to study. Question: The woman expresses her opinion about the plandescribed in the article. State her opinion and explainthe reasons she gives for holding that opinion. 范文一: According to the reading, in order to reduce theheating cost, the university has decided to lower thetemperature in classrooms after 5 P.M. when classesall end. In the dialogue, the woman disagrees for thefollowing reasons. To start with, those classroomsare always used for group meetings. The library has limited meeting rooms. If they make thischange, students will have nowhere to go for their group meeting in the cold winter days.Whats more, the school should make some basic improvements, such as changing the oldwindows to make the buildings more energy efficient. That will make a huge difference. 范文二: The girl doesnt agree with the university on the plan. Firstly, she says that the teachingbuildings arent just used for classes. They are also used by her evening study group. Thegroup hold meetings in the classrooms. Now that its winter and cold, the study group hasnowhere else to go. Secondly, she says the university shouldnt disrupt the studentsacademic study. There are many other things the university should do. The university canreplace the old drafty windows that are poor isolated and always let the cold in classrooms. Also, the old buildings are not energy-efficient. So she thinks there are many basicimprovements the university can do to make difference in the long-term and still leave themsomewhere to study. Reading Part: Daily E-Mail with Campus Activities The university will now send all students a daily e-mailcontaining information about campus events andactivities. Rather than getting information aboutactivities oncea week in the campus newspaper, students will get the information every day, thus ensuring that it is always up-to-date.According to the university spokes person who announced the plan, For all of us now, e-mailis part of our daily lives. Students in particular have become used to relying on e-mail and theInternet for most communication, so this is a logical change that will benefit everyone.” 听力原文: Now listen to two students discussing theannouncement. (woman) Did you read about the new plan? (man) Yeah, what do you think? (woman) I think its a great idea. (man) Really? Why? (woman) Well, I just dont think the newspaper gives the most up-to-date information aboutactivities. (man) Well, the paper comes out weekly, whats the problem? (woman) The fact it comes out just once a week is the problem. I read the paper every Mondaybut then I forget they re having a concert or showing a film or whatever, like on Thursday orFriday. And this will always give a reminder, all on the day of the event. (man) Yeah, that way you wouldnt forget. (woman) And, like, if something gets cancelled at the last minute, well, that way you wouldknow and you wouldnt waste time showing up and no ones there. (man) I havent thought of that. That would be really helpful. But do you think students areactually gonna read the e-mail? (woman) Are you kidding? Everyone checks their e-mail at least once a day. And if maybe theyllalso include the cafeteria menu for the day in the e-mail, well, then people are definitely gonnaread it. (man) Youre so right! I cant wait until they start. Question: The woman expresses her opinion about theuniversitys plan. Briefly summarize the plan. Thenstate her opinion about the plan and explain thereasons she gives for holding that opinion. 范文一: According to the reading, the school has decided tosend students daily emails containing campusactivities because it is more up to date and email isan important part of everyones daily life. Then in thedialogue, the woman agrees for the followingreasons. Firstly, for the time being students learn about current event from the weeklynewspaper. They will read it and forget it shortly afterwards. So these emails will serve as a dailyremainder. Even if some event is cancelled last minute, nobody will show up. In addition, everyone check the email inbox at least once a day. If the school can add the cafeteria menuinside, that would be even better. 范文二: The university is planning to send daily e-mail to all students so that they can get informationabout campus events and activities every day. The woman thinks its a great idea.First of all, thewoman thinks the weekly newspaper is not up-to-date. She reads it every Monday, but shellforget a concert on Thursday or a film on Wednesday. She also says that the email can serveas an reminder so if any event gets cancelled, people will know and wont waste time going.Second of all, the woman says everyone checks email once a day and if they include cafeteriamenu in the email every day, people definitely will read it. Reading Part: University Announces Change in Campus TourGuides Traditionally, staff members from the admissionsoffice have led the campus tours for secondary-school students who are considering attending theuniversity. Beginningnext semester, however, current students will lead these guided walksaround the campus instead. “The staff of the admissions office no longer have time to lead thecampus tours. We need to focus our resources on our other responsibilities,” explain ChristineTanner, the director of admissions.“Furthermore, we feel that current students will offerunique and valuable insight to our visitors during these campus tours.” 听力原文: Now listen to two students discussing the article. (man) So, what do you think of this? (woman) Well, I think its a good idea, necessary, too. (man) Why is that? (woman) Well, you know, Ive actually been up to the admissions office a couple of times, like,to pick up some information for a friend, you know, and every time Ive ever been there, wow,you can tell theyre really busy. (man) Oh, really. (woman) Yeah, those staff members are running around like crazy, on the phone, doinginterviews, dealing with tons of paper work, so I can totally believe what they are saying aboutthe time factor, seems like having one less thing to worry about will be a good thing. (man) Sounds like it. (woman) Yep, oh, and about the other point, (man) The, uh, the different perspective thing? (woman) Uh hum, I think people like us will be really good at this. Unlike, you know, I rememberwhen I was first shown around the campus, the guide leading was, well, he was super nice, butthere were some questions that he couldnt really answer from experience. (man) Like what? (woman) Well, practical things, which are the noisier dorms? Or which ones are quietest? Whichstudent cafeteria would he recommend? Stuff he didnt have first-hand knowledge about, Imean, how could he? (man) I see. Our point of view might be more helpful. Question: The woman expresses her opinion about theuniversitys plan. Briefly summarize the plan.Thenstate her opinion about the plan and explain thereasons she gives for holding that opinion. 范文一: The university decides tolet current students leadthe campus tours for second-school studentsbecausethe staff of the admissions office have notenough time and the currentstudents can offer anunique and valuable insight to the visitors. Thewoman inthe conversation thinks its a good idea. Firstly, she went to admission officeseveraltimes. Every time she went there, the staff were very busy, running around like crazy, handlingtons of paperwork, doing interviews and receivingphone calls. Secondly, she thinks currentstudents will be really good at this.Unlike the staff, current students can answer questionsconcerning practicalthings such as which dorm is nosier, which dorm is the quietest and whichcafeteria is recommendable. Their point of view will be very helpful. 范文二: According to the reading, the university plans to let current students lead the guided walksaround the campus instead of the staff from admission office, because the staff have no timeand students can offer valuable advice. Then in the dialogue, the woman agrees for thefollowing reasons. Firstly, she has been to the admission office. The staff members were talkingon the phones, doing interviews, they were really busy. Secondly, students offer insight basedon their first-hand experience. They can answer questions such as, which is the noisiestdormitory and which cafeteria to recommend to those incoming students. Reading Part: No More International News For the past few years, the daily campus newspaperhas included a one-page international news sectioncovering a few of the major stories in world news.Starting next month, the section will be eliminated. One of the reasons the newspaper editors gave for the decision to cut the section is that othernews sources are better able to provide wider and more up-to-date international newscoverage. The editors also noted that the change would create space for a new calendar pagethat will list events and activities around campus. 听力原文: Now listen to two students discussing the article. (man) Hey, what do you think of this? (woman) You mean the editors decision? (man) Right. (woman) I think they are right. Its the thing to do. (man) Really? Why? (woman) Well, hardly anyone reads that section. (man) You dont think so? (woman) Not really, I mean, they only cover stories and most people already know about thembefore they even get around to reading the campus paper. (man) True, if you get the local paper, or use the internet, you already know the major stories. (woman) Exactly, and the coverages better. I think we should just stick with campus news andstuff. (man) So do you think what theyre gonna replace with is better? (woman) Definitely, right now, how do you learn about whats happening on campus? (man) Mostly from posters in different buildings or in the student center. (woman) Right, the information is everywhere but its hard to keep track of it. I see stuffposted but then I forget about it half the time. (man) So youre saying that with this new section? (woman) You could just cut it out from the newspaper and carry it around and check it anytimeand know whats taking place when and where. Question: The woman expresses her opinion about the planannounced in the article. Briefly summarize theplan. Then state her opinion about the plan andexplain thereasons she gives for holding that opinion. 范文一: Campus newspaper editors have made the decisionto eliminate the international news section becauseother news sources can provide better internationalnews coverage. Also, thespace will be used as acalendar page covering events and activitiesaroundcampus. The woman thinks its the right thing to do. Her reason is that hardlyanyonereads the international news section and students already know about themajor stories fromlocal paper and Internet before they read the section. Soshe thinks the campus newspapershould stick to the campus news. Her second reason is that right now information iseverywhere on campus, in differentbuildings or in the student center. With the new calendar, students can cut itout, carry it around, and know whats taking place and when and where. 范文二: According to the reading, the university has decided to cancel the international section, becauseother sources are better and they could use it for a new calendar page. In the dialogue, thewoman agrees for the following reasons. First, hardly anyone reads that section. When peopleuse other news sources, such as the local newspapers, or if they check the Internet, theyalready knew about the major stories when the newspaper came around. Also, currently, students learn about campus events from posters everywhere. If they had this calendar page, students could cut it out, and carry it around with them to check it anytime. Reading Part: Close the Campus Coffee house I propose that the university close the campuscoffeehouse. Coffeehouses are great, if peopleactually use them, like to socialize with friends, whileenjoying a cup of coffee and a snack. But studentsare not using our campus coffeehouse. Thereare usually lots of empty tables when I p ass bythe place. Its just a waste of space that could be used for other things. Also, the food at thecoffeehouseis not very good. The last time I was there
