Little Red Riding HoodCharacters:Narrator MotherLittle Red Riding Hood GrandmaWolf WoodsmanSetting:This readers theater takes place in and around the woods. Little Red Riding Hood and her mother live near the woods. Little Red plays among the trees there. Grandma lives deep in the woods. And so does the wolf!Act INarrator: A girl plays in the yard of her home. Big trees grow all around her. Birds sing in the trees. The girl wears a pretty red cape. She is called Little Red Riding Hood.Mother: Little Red Riding Hood! Where are you?Little Red: Here I am.Mother: You look so pretty. What a nice red riding hood!Little Red: Thanks! I am so glad Grandma made it for me. I want to thank her.Mother: Do you want to visit her now? I have made a basket full of goodies. There are bread and cheese. There are apples and cookies. Will you take the basket to Grandma?Little Red: May I go there by myself?Mother: You are a good girl. You will be safe if you stay on the path. Yes, you may go there by yourself.Little Red: Thanks!Mother: But remember, Little Red. Do not talk to strangers. Just walk to Grandmas house.Little Red: I will!Mother: Do not forget!Narrator: Little Red Riding Hood takes the basket of goodies. She ties her hood tightly. Then she goes into the woods. She follows the path to Grandmas house. As she goes, she sings.Song: Over the River and Through the WoodsOver the river and through the woods, to Grandmothers house we go.The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh, through the white and drifted snow.Over the river and through the woods, Oh, how the wind does blow!It stings the toes and bites the nose, as over the ground we go.Over the river and through the woods, and straight through the barnyard gate.We seem to go extremely slow. It is so hard to wait!Over the river and through the woods, now Grandmothers cap I spy!Hurrah for the fun! Is the pudding done? Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!Little Red: Grandma will be happy to see me!Wolf: Who is that I see?Narrator: There is someone in the woods. He sees Little Red Riding Hood.Wolf: Mmmm! I smell tasty treats.Narrator: That someone is a hungry wolf!Wolf: This is my lucky day. I will pop out to say hello.Narrator: The wolf jumps out from behind a tree.Wolf: Hello, little girl!Narrator: Little Red Riding Hood is surprised.Little Red: Oh!Wolf: Hello, I say!Little Red: Hello to you.Narrator: She forgets what her mother told her. Do not talk to strangers!Wolf: What is your name, girl? And what do you have?Little Red: I am Little Red Riding Hood. I have a basket. It is filled with goodies. They are for Grandma. She lives all alone.Wolf: Oh, really? Where does Grandma live?Little Red: Her house is on this path.Wolf: Oh, yes. I know that house. She is alone, you say?Little Red: Yes, she is. But I will be there soon.Narrator: The wolf licks his lips.Wolf: Oh, that will be nice. Well, I must go now. Goodbye!Narrator: Off he runs. He runs down the path to Grandmas house!Act IIWolf: Oh, what a nice day! Soon I will eat Grandma. Then I will eat the little girl. I wonder if I can find more children to eat.Narrator: The wolf licks his lips again. He calls out to children.Poem: Boys and Girls Come Out to PlayBoys and girls, come out to play.The moon doth shine as bright as day.Leave your supper and leave your sleep,And join your playfellows in the street.Come with a whoop and come with a call.Come with a good will or come not at all.Up the ladder and down the wall,A penny loaf will serve us all.Narrator: It is a good thing there are no children near! They are safe from the wolf. But Little Red Riding Hood is not safe. And Grandma is not safe.Wolf: Oh, ho! I see the house. I will knock. What fun!Narrator: The wolf knocks.Grandma: Who is it?Wolf: It is Little Red Riding Hood.Narrator: The wolf lies. Grandma answers the door.Grandma: Who are you?Narrator: The wolf smiles. Then he opens his mouth wide. Down goes Grandma in one bite!Wolf: Yum!Grandma: Oh, my! Where am I?Narrator: Grandmas voice is muffled. It is hard to talk inside a wolfs belly!Wolf: Pipe down in there! I am going to put on this dress. I will wear this cap, too. The girl will think I am you.Grandma: Oh, dear!Narrator: Things do not look good for Grandma. They do not look good for Little Red either.Wolf: But they look very good for me!Narrator: Little Red Riding Hood skips down the path. Soon she comes to Grandmas house.Little Red: Grandma, I am here! Come see me in my hood.Narrator: The wolf opens the door. He is dressed like Grandma.Wolf: Oh, you look so tasty. I mean, pretty!Little Red: Thank you, Grandma.Narrator: Just then, a woodsman walks down the path. He holds a big ax.Woodsman: Hello, Grandma! Hello, Little Red. How are you?Wolf: Oh, um, I am fine.Little Red: I have goodies for Grandma. Do you want some?Wolf: Oh, no, dear. I am sure he is busy.Narrator: The wolf is afraid of the ax!Woodsman: Thank you. But I do have work to do. I must be going. Goodbye.Little Red: Goodbye.Wolf: Whew!Narrator: The woodsman scratches his head. He walks away. But he wonders.Woodsman: Something is funny about Grandma.Act IIINarrator: Little Red goes into the house with Grandma. I mean, with the wolf.Wolf: I am a little tired. I think I will lie down. Come near me, dear.Little Red: Grandma, your voice sounds funny. Do you fell well?Wolf: Oh, yes. I am fine. I am just tired.Narrator: The wolf lies down. Little Red Riding Hood comes close. Grandma tries to warn her.Grandma: Run! Run!Little Red: What did you say?Wolf: Oh, nothing. My belly is noisy.Little Red: You must be very hungry! You have a loud belly.Narrator: The wolf licks his lips again.Wolf: Yes, I am very hungry. Come closer, dear.Narrator: Little Red comes very close. She looks at Grandma. Grandma does not look right.Little Red: Grandma, something is funny. What big ears you have!Wolf: The better to hear you with, my dear.Little Red: Grandma, what big eyes you have!Wolf: The better to see you with, my dear.Little Red: Grandma, what big teeth you have!Wolf: The better to eat you with, my dear!Narrator: With that, the wolf leaps from the bed. He opens his mouth wide. He tries to eat Little Red Riding Hood in one bite. But she runs fast. And she screams!Little Red: Help! Help!Woodsman: Who is that? Little Red Riding Hood? I am coming!Narrator: The woodsman ru
