Background information:School: No.3 Middle SchoolTeacher: 晏菲菲Students: 49 middle school students, Grade 7Materials: Unit 9 What does he look like?( By Peoples Education Press )Type of lesson: listening and speakingLesson duration: 40mins Aids: blackboard, chalk, powerpoint , some self-made teaching aids.II. Analysis of material:This class is the first class of the unit. The key topic is talking about peoples appearance from the aspects of hair, height and build. The first class of this unit is aimed to raise students interest and input some basic knowledge about the topic.III. Analysis of students:They are students in Grade 7. They are interested in learning English. They can be easily attracted by topics they like. But they lack abundant language input, so its difficult for them to express themselves corretly and fluently. This is a listening and speaking class,which is mainly designed to develop students listening and speaking skills.IV. Teaching contents:1. Vocabularies and expressions: words:hair,curly,long,short,straight,height,tall,medium,thin,heavy,buildstrctures:-Whatdoeshe/shelooklike?-He/Shehas hair.-He/She is tall/short/of medium height.-He/She is heavy/ thin/ of medium build.2. Listening skills: listen for specific information.3. Speaking skills: Describe peoples appearance fluently.V. Teaching objectives:By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. Educational Objectives: 1). Students will build confidence in learning English by teachers carefully scaffolding.2). Think alone effectively and learn to cooperate with others by doing pair work and group work.3) Have a correct understanding towards appearance and realize everyone is beautiful just the way he is.3. Personal ObjectivesI will learn to organize the class more freely by the end of the class. VI. Focal pointsBy the end of the class, students should be able to:1) Use listening skills such as listening for specific information to understand the listening tasks.2) Talk about peoples appearance by using the new words and new structures.VII. Teaching procedure and Time Allotment Stage1 Leading-in (3mins)Showavideo of Running Man, the famous TV show. Lead in the topic.T: Good afternoon, everyone. Today we will learn Unit 9 What does he look like. First, lets enjoy a video.T:Whats the shows name?Ss: Running man.T: Do you like the show? Who do you like best?Ss: I like the show. I like .T: I like the show too and I think those super stars are very funny. They look different and have different characters(板书). They make the show interesting. So today, we will learn how to describe their appearance.T: Do you know him? To learn to describe others, first, we will learn about “hairstyle”, then “height” and at last, we will learn “build”. Read after me.(purpose: Students are familiar with the TV show, Running man, so it will help raising their interest towards the topic.)Stage2Pre-listening Step1 hairstyle (9mins)1.New words presentation 2min(Present the new words and phrases “short curly hair” “short straight hair” “long curly hair” “long straight hair” by using the pictures of super stars students like. It can raise their interest and the quick minds practice can give them more confidence in speaking English.)T: Look at his hair. His hair is verySs: Long.T: Yes. So we say he has long hair. Read after me. Long hair. And his hair is curly, so we say he has curly hair. Read after me. His hair is long and curly. So we say he has long curly hair. Pay attention! We dont say curly long hair,OK?T: OK. Lets read them. Long curly hair,长卷发.Practice 1: Quick Eyes 2min(Present the pictures of students favorite super stars with different hairstyles. Students are asked to stand up if they know the answer. This is to further consolidate the phrases about hairstyle.)2.New structures presentation 1minT: So, look at the picture. What does she look like?Ss: She has long curly hair.T: What does she look like?Ss: She has short straight hair.T: So, look at the picture. Present the words and phrases “heavy” “thin” “be of medium build” by using pictures of famous people.2. Present the structure “What does he/she look like?” “He/She is ” with the pictures. (practice the expression of height and build )T: What does he look like?(pictures of the same people, with strong comparison)Ss: He is heavy.T: What does he look like?Ss: He is thin.T: What does Han Hong look like?S1: He is short and heavy.T: What does Han Hong look like?S1: He is short and heavy.T: What does Lin Zhilin look like?S1: She is tall and thin.Step 4 Hair, Height and Build (6min)Game: Describe people Let student choose numbers and describe the superstars, teachers or students from the aspect of hair, height and build.T: What does Mr.Li look like?S1: He has short straight hair. He is tall and he is of medium build.Step 5 Is or has (5min)Task 1: Choose one side. 3minT: When we describe people, we have “is” and “has”. So, look at the table, the left side, “He is ”, the right side “He has” Now, if you see “tall”, you stand up quickly and say “He is short”. Are you clear?Task 2: Chant with claps (Get students be familiar with the usage of “is” and “has”)First, set two examples.
