Learn to how to add ing for verbs.VI. Important and difficult points:1. New words: newspaper , read a newspaper, soup, make soup, use, wash.2. The usage of the present progressive tense.3. How to add ing for verbs.VII. Functions:1. Key words: newspaper, read a newspaper, soup, make a soup, use, wash.2. Key phrases: watching TV; reading a newspaper; playing basketball; playing the guitar;doing the dishes; doing kung fu.listening to a CD; making soup talking on the phone 3. Key sentences: -What are you doing?-Im. .-What is she/he doing ?-She/He is . .-What are they doing?-They are. .VIII. Teaching methods:1. Apply different kinds of teaching methods.1). task-based teaching approach. 2). the cognitive approach. 3). the oral approach. 4). the natural approach.2. Learning method guidance.(学法指导) 1). Autonomous learning and cooperative investigation. 自主学习,合作探索 2). Let the students work in pairs to learn the cooperative learning.3). Students learn to Talk about the present progressive tense, talk about what they are doing.3. The teaching means. (教学手段) Multi-media, computer, courseware, flash pictures, body language, listening, practice, chart, photos, record, the present progressive tense and question-answer drills.IX. Teaching procedures:Step 1. Lead-in.Watch a video- “There are four children are doing something interesting” and answer three questions:1. How many children can you see in the video?2. What are they doing?3. Can you do these things?4. What are you doing now.Let the students put up their hands and answer the questions. Next let the students do some activities like teacher. Then I show some photos to the students and tell the students what my families are doing in the photos.Picture 1: I am reading a newspaper.Picture 2: My son is washing his shoes.Picture 3: My husband is making chicken soup. Step 2. Presentation. 1. Let some students do some activities.For example: doing my homework, playing the basketball, swimming, reading a book, watching TV, cleaning the floor.2. Go on asking students one by one: What are you doing? What is she/he doing? What are they doing?Help students answer, using the present participle.Pay attention to the change of verbs form watch TV -watching TV, play soccer-playing soccer do homework- doing homework, read a newspaper- reading a newspaper make soup -making soup swim- swimmingModel: T: What am I doing now ? S: You are singing.Step 3.Activity (1a)1. Point to the activities in the picture in 1a. Ask students to say the activities in English.2. Math the activities with the pictures .3. Check the answers.4. Read the conversation in the picture. Step 4. Activity (1b).1.Ask the students what Jenny, John, Dave and Mary are boys or girls?2. Play the recording the first time, students only listen.3. Play the recording again. The students write the numbers from 1a.4. Check the answers.Step 5. Practice.Activity 11. While students are doing some actions the students ask and answer in pairs about them.2. Check some pairs.Activity 2 (1a)1. Point to the pictures in 1a and ask students to tell what they see. 2. Name each activity and repeat in the present progressive tense.talking on the phone, cleaning the room, reading a newspaper, making soup, washing the dishes, watching TV3. Ask students to match each activity with one of the pictures.4. Check the answers. Students read the phrases aloud.Activity 3 1. Students work in pairs to ask and answer about what the people in 1a according to different pictures.Model: A: What is he doing in Picture a?B: He is talking on the phone.A: What is she doing in Picture b?B: She is making soup. 2. Check some pairs.Activity 4 Guessing game: Golden eyes. (Help the students remember the key phrases.) Show the pictures on the screen. (doing homework, cleaning the room, watching TV, watching TV, reading a newspaper, playing soccer.) T: Which is missing? Which two are missing? Students try to remember the pictures by heart. Then guess the phrases. Have a competition. Arouse the interests of the students. To remember the key phrases.Activity 5 Pair Work. (1c)Role-play. Student A is Dave. Student B asks Dave about what is he doing.-What are you doing, Davey?-Oh, I m playing soccer.-How about you?-I am drawing a picture. Activity 6 Group work: Make a survey and give a report.Let the students make a survey and the students can do different things. What are they doing in his/her group? NameWhat are you doing now?LucyI am watching TV.Students report like this:Now in our group , Lucy is watching TV; Bob is ; I Activity 7 Game TimeShow 10 numbers, there are 10questions in the numbers. Let the students choose one number and open the question. Some of the numbers are questions that the students must answer. ( e.g. Please do some actions.) Some numbers are lucky numbers. (e.g. You are lucky, a book for you! ) The students can get a present when they choose the lucky number. The students are interested in this game. Many students put up their hands. Inspire the students interest in learning. Step 5. Summary.Today we have started a new unit learning to talk about what people are doing now. And we have learned the use of the present progressive tense. Look!
