English is spoken all over the world. More than 750 million people learn English as a native language or a second language. And English is mainly divided into American English and British English. Lets take a close look at them.(showing the picture of Beckham)T: First, Lets enjoy a picture. Who is he, and where is he from?Ss: Beckham! Britain / England!T: yeah! He comes from England. And England belongs to Britain. Whats his job?Ss: A football player!T: Ok, please listen to me carefully. I want to say he was playing soccer on a pitch in Britain and now he is playing football on a field in America. Has he changed his job?S: No!T: Why?S1: Because playing football on a field and playing soccer on a pitch are the same.T: Wonderful! They refer to the same thing. So American people and British people sometimes use different words to describe the same thing. Here, we could feel the differences between American English and British English.(以学生感兴趣的人物贝克汉姆导入英式英语与美式英语的区别,课件的展示更清楚地呈现出了足球、足球场在英美两国的不同说法。这样的导入新颖,能激活学生的思维。)Step 2: Brainstorming T: The time is for you. Can you tell me some differences youve known? Ss: colour & color, autumn & fall, (相信学生,让学生的脑筋动起来去思考英式英语与美式英语在那些方面有所不同,将学生们的回答在课件上再汇总,令我们的学生更有成就感。你看他们自然而然地就想到了两种英语在发音、拼写、语法、词汇上的区别。)Step 3: Presenting differences in BE and AE T: Lets look through several tables to find out differences in detail.(Table 1: Pronunciation )T: The first table tells us about pronunciation. We could see three words here and each word has two different pronunciations in AE and BE. Try to read them out please!.(Table 2: Vocabulary)T: There are some British English words on the left, please tell me their American English form. Ok?S1: trousers- pants(Table 3: Spelling) T: It is about spelling. There are some British English words here as well. Please tell me their spellings in American English. S1: center, we change “er” to “re” (Table 4: Grammar) T: This table tells us something about grammar. There are some sentences or phrases in BE. How to express the same meanings in AE? For example, “Sams just gone home ” ?S1: It is changed into “Sam just went home”. T: Good! In BE we always use present perfect tense, but in AE we use simple past tense at all times. Go to next one: “The uniform fitted badly” T: Well done! Lets have a conclusion. The differences between AE and BE lie in four aspects: pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, grammar. There are so many differences between them. Which one do you like better? Some of my friends prefer British English, and some of them like American English better. How about you? Why? S1:I like American English better. Because it sounds good. (此环节的设计旨在锻炼学生的口语技能,鼓励学生表达自己的观点,畅所欲言地说出自已喜欢美式英语或英式英语的原因,老师会有意想不到的收获。)Step 4 Presenting colloquialismsT: To me, I like American English better, maybe because I have watched many American movies. If you want to learn English better, or know more culture of English-speaking countries, please follow me! Well learn a new useful expression - colloquialism. A colloquialism is an informal expression used in spoken English. Colloquialisms are never used in formal English or in writing, but are often used in conversations. I ll give you an example: we call “rain dogs and cats” a colloquialism. Next, lets enjoy a short humorous video. There are three colloquialisms in this video, please find them out and tell me their meanings.(After watching the video)T: What is the first colloquialism referred in this video?S1: “as easy as pie” and it means “very easy”! T: Good! Lets do the exercises on the page 27. Then, please look at the screen. Try to guess the meanings of colloquialisms according to the sentences :1.Though you are busy, could you just lend me an ear for a moment?( It means: to listen and pay attention to) (整合教学资源,拓宽教学新渠道。高中英语教学资源不应局限于课本,我们可以整合报刊资源,网络资源。此处运用的教学资源正是来自于网络上的一段关于英语习语的音像资料,在课堂进行到一半之时,推出音像教学资源,能起到再次激起学生学习兴趣的作用,将课堂教学气氛推向高潮。)Step 5 PracticeT: It is time to do some exercises : filling in the blanks with the colloquialisms.(a no-brainer / green hand / sick as a dog / a wet blanket / cost an arm and a leg )1. Kate, dont be_ at the party. Lets dance! .(学以致用,及时巩固,效果会更好。但练习设计一定要注意难度与适量,因为练习的圆满完成会令学生有学有所得的感觉,对今后的教与学起到促进作用。)Step 6 Homework1 Finish part B on page 272 Read the colloquialisms loud and try to remember them ,and find more colloquialisms.
