Teaching design for Unit5 Why do you like pandas? SectionB2a-2c王娟 黄骅市第四中学I. Learning Objectives(教学目标)1. Language knowledge(知识目标) Students will be able to use the following words and expressions: save flag forget place danger cut down trees kill over one of+可数名词复数, be in (great)danger, cut down , get lost, made of2. Language skills(能力目标)(1) In this lesson, students will read the passage for the sequence of time, new words and expressions. This is also the focus of this lesson.(2) Students will think independently, cooperate with their group mates successfully and then express their opinions clearly.3. Affect(情感目标)(1) Students have the awareness to protect animals.(2) Students will be willing to express their unique ideas in English.II. Importances and Difficulties(重难点)Importance: The ability to understand fully passage Difficulty:based on the understanding of the passage and the sharing of students, they can write a short passage。III. Learning strategy(教学策略)Students will know how to understand a text by different reading methods.Based on the analysis above, students may some difficulties. they need more language input for their writing. I will rebuilding and summarize the passage to help students to reach the goals. Teaching procedure(教学过程)To achieve the objectives above, I design several activities with the aid of PPT. The teaching procedure will follow PWP model in this lesson. The three stages are pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading.The entire steps are:Teaching procedureAimsStep 1 Pre-reading1. lets watch a video. Its the earth song sang by Michael Jackson. 2. Show the ppt 4.5.6.7 and make a free talk with students with questions: what happened to the elephant?(because people kill them for their ivory)elephants are peoples friends and they are very important in Thailand. And the elephant is one of Thailands symbols. Do you like elephants? Why? Because elephants are smart animals. they never get lost and they can remember places with food and water. But elephants are in great danger. Why? Because people cut down trees and kill them for their ivory.It will lead in the new lesson naturally and efficiently. video can improve Ssinterest.Besides, it will activate the students knowledge both on English and on background. present the new word while presenting the new words.Step 2 While-readingget the class to read the text while listeningand finish the task in the passage:Choose the best title.2. Have the class read the article again carefully and answer the questions. a) Whats on Thailands flag?b) Are elephants smart animals? Why?c) Why are elephants in great danger? d) When is Thai Elephant Day?3. read again and complete the mind map4.sharing Get some groups to share their ideas according to finishing the three questions. a) How many parts of the passage are there? Which parts are they?b) Use one word to summarize each partsHere the students find the main idea by using the reading skillsreading the first sentences and last sentences of each paragraph and the key words.At the same time, the more they read the text, the better they understand the passage, the new words and expressions.Besides, we lead students to have better understanding the passage according to the answer the questions.By constructing a mind map, organize the students with the learned reading strategies to get information, and induction of the core of this article, to enable students to apply what they have learned, to increase the use of reading strategies.Based on the activity, students can not only get the information of the passage ,rebuilding and understand deeply of the passage by guessing exploring sharing between students.Step 3Post-reading1. Write a short passage about 50 words with the four words.: important smart endangered save2. Then Ill choose some groups to share their ideas.3. lets students to watch a video about YaoMing with elephant and make students have the awareness to protect animals. I want the students to rewrite the story in their own words based on arranging and processing the article . As the students have understood the text well enough, structure their language effectively and use their language freely.
