In Turkey, there is a cave hotel with a television, furniture, and a bathroom in each room. And in Bolivia, there is the Salt Palace Hotel.Thousands of years ago, the area around the Salt Palace Hotel was a large lake. But over time, all the water disappeared. Today, the area has only two small lakes and two salt deserts. The larger of the two deserts, the Uyuni salt desert, is 12,000 square kilometers. During the day, the desert is bright white because of the salt. There are no roads across the Uyuni desert, so local people must show guests the way to the hotel. In the early 1990s, a man named Juan Quesada built the hotel. He cut big blocks (块) of salt from the desert and used the blocks to build it. Everything in the hotel is made out of salt: the walls, the roof, the tables, the chairs, the beds, and the hotels bar.The sun heats the walls and roof during the day. At night the desert is very cold, but the rooms stay warm. The hotel has 12 rooms. A single room costs40 a night, and a double room costs60.A sign on the hotels wall tells guests, “ Please dont lick the wallsit doesnt taste good!”(1)People can go to _ to visit the ice hotel in April.A . Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong. If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed(责备), and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people cant read or write but usually they have better memories ? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things, they cannot write them down in a small notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is the whole time being exercised. So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: practise remembering things in a way as other people do.(1)Someone cant have a good memory if _.A . he cant read or writeB . he doesnt use his memoryC . his parents havent a good memoryD . he doesnt use his arms or legs for some time(2)If you do not use your arms or legs for some time, _.A . you cant use them any moreB . they will become strongerC . they become weak but they slowly become strong againD . they become weak and wont become strong until you use them again(3)Which of the following is TRUE ?A . Your memory works in the different way as your arms or legsB . Your memory, like your arms or legs, becomes weak if you do not give it enough chance for practiceC . Dont learn how to read and write if you want to have a better memoryD . A good memory comes from less practice(4)Few people know that it is only _ if a friend has a poor memory.A . his own faultB . his parents faultC . his teachers faultD . his grandmothers fault(5)The writer wants to tell us _.A . how to use our arms or legsB . how to read and writeC . how to have a good memoryD . how to learn from the people4. (8分)阅读理解Life is full of miracles. They surround us every day. One of these miracles happened to me recently. I was filling my cars tank at a local gas station. It was only 10 A.M. but I already felt tired. It was a cloudy, gloomy and rainy day and I hadnt slept well the night before. After I paid for the gas I turned my car towards the main road. I looked right and left then my brain sent the signal for my foot to push on the gas pedal but nothing happened. Shocked, I shook my head to clear it and gazed down at my foot.Just as I did, though, a truckrushedpast my car doing 60 mph. My weary eyes hadnt seen it when I had looked just 2 seconds earlier. If I had been pulling out when I should have been, my little green car would have been smashed and I would have most likely been killed. I sat there for a long time quietly thanking God for sparing my life before pulling out on the road and heading home. This time both my brain and foot worked perfectly. As I looked back on that moment later I still couldnt understand it. Did God prevent my brains signalfrom reaching my foot? Did an angel hold my toes to keep them from pressing on the gas? One question kept coming back into my mind as well: why? Why did I get this miracle? Why did God spare my life this day? Finally, I felt the answer forming deep within my heart and mind. I heard the words coming from my soul saying: “You still have more to do. Your work is not done yet!”Richard Bach wrote: “Here is the test to find if your mission on Earth is finished: if you are alive it isnt.” Wake up each day then knowing that your mission isnt done yet. You have more love to share, more people to help, more kindness to give. You have one more day to be the miracle God meant for you to be.(1)The underlined word “gloomy” probably means_. A . windy.B . sunny.C . overcast.D . cool.(2)After the writer paid for the gas, he planned to_.A . sat in the car for a rest.B . look right and left.C . shake his head to clear it.D . push on the gas pedal to turn his car towards the main road.(3)Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A . The writers green car was smashed by a truck.B . There is something wrong with writers gas pedal.C . An angel holds the writers toes to keep them from pressing on the gas.D . The writers foot didnt push on the gas pedal.(4)Whats the writers attitude towards life?A . The writer is positive towards life.B . The writer is passive towards life.C . The writer doesnt show his attitude.D . The writer takes a neutral (中立的) attitude towards life.5. (6分)阅读理解There are some very good inventions which, for one reason or another, dont become popular. These inventions should be better known, even though I think that some of them are crazy. Lets have a look at some of these inventions and see if you agree that they should be more successful. The Australians had a great idea to stop people from drinking and driving. The idea was that if a driver wanted to start the car, she or he would have to blow into a bag first. If there was too much alcohol(酒精) in their breath, the car wouldnt start. It sounded like a great idea to me, but people said that they might need to drive the car in an emergency even if they had drunk too much alcohol. Another idea I liked was an invention by a scientist who thought his children watched too much TV. He linked the TV to an exercise bike so that the electricity to power the TV was generated(产出) by the bike. If the children wanted to watch a lot of TV, they had to pedal(踩踏板) very hard. I found another invention on the Internet which was intended (倾向于) to encourage good habits. Believe it or not, this invention was an ashtray(烟灰缸) which spoke to you when you lit a cigarette! The “voice” of the ashtray was activated (启动) by the heat from the cigarette and reminded you how dangerous it is to smoke. One of the strangest inventions I have come across is a bicycle which can cross rivers! The idea was that when you came to a river, you could inflate a huge plastic ball all around the bike. You would then get into the ball which would float on the river while you pedaled the bike inside the ball! Why not use a bridge instead? A friend of mine at school once bought a strange pair of football shoes. On the bottom of the shoes there was a rotating pad of studs (转动钉垫). The idea was that you would change direction more quickly if the studs rotated with you. The problem was that every time you stopped you changed direction whether you wanted to or not! I think he wore those shoes twice! One thing I would like is a baseball cap with a built-in radio so you can listen to sport all day with your hands free. While we are on the subject of sport, the Americans invented a kind of robot for sports fans. If you were watching your team on TV on your own, you could press a button and the robot would do “high fives” with you! Fantastic! I wonder if you have any good ideas for inventions like these.(1)Whats the writers attitude towards the inventions mentioned in Paragraph 2? A . The writer regrets he knew nothing about the inventions.B . The writer wonders if the inventions will be popular soon.C . The writer thinks people will benefit from the inventions.D . The writer finds these inventions are the strangest of all.(2)The underlined word “inflate” in the third paragraph means _. A . check outB . blow upC . look intoD . turn over(3)Whats the best title for the passage? A . Popular Inventions Today.B . Technology and Invention.C . The History of Invention.D . Inventions with a Difference.三、 任务型阅读 (共1题;共25分)6. (25分)阅读下面短文,简要回答所给问题。You may love to see tigers at the zoo. But what if you had to stay with one on a boat on the open sea for over 200 days?
