Her works ranged from nonfictions, fictions and essays, which include: Against Interpretation, On Photography, Illness as Metaphor and The Benefactor. Against Interpretation, being Susan Sontags most outstanding and attractive work, won her the title of “ the current acutest writer” in America. Susan Sontag was considered different in that she had a deep understanding of anesthetics and photography. The reason I choose her workBeauty, which was first published in Vogur magazine in 1975, is that she argued about beauty, an abstract word, in a very logical and convincing way. Meanwhile, Susan Sontag presented her art of arguing about beauty in a feminists perspective. By analyzing this text, readers can better appreciate Susan Sontags fine art of arguing of an abstract word. Thus this essay can provide readers a better skill in arguing forcefully and logically. This essay will focus on the various stylistic features of Beauty with Sara Mills theory in her book Feminist Stylistics, through which we can analyze Susan Sontags choice of words, grammar and sentences. The importance of doing such a research are as follows:(1) By analyzing the stylistic features of the text, we are able to have a profound understanding of Sontags argument on beauty and how she draws our attention to sexism. (2) Though many researches have done on feminist literary criticism, most of which are from the aspects of the development, the influence and the current situation, which leaves much space for a research on a particular writer, as Susan Sontag.(3) Few researches on Susan Sontag and her works have been conducted except some on her perspective of aesthetics, so a research on Beauty from the stylistic aspect will bring readers a closer look at her writing style and her attitude towards sexism from a different angle.(4) Through the analysis of Susan Sontags writing style in this text, we can appreciate Susan Sontags art of auguring about beauty and use the skills in later writing. 研究内容：To study the techniques Susan Sontag used to argue about beauty, an abstract word, from a feminist perspective. The thesis will:(1) Bring a brief introduction of Susan Sontag, her achievement on her works and her attitude towards sexism as a feminist. Some information on feminist literary criticism will be given for a better understanding of feminism. (2) Give an overview of Susan Sontags life experience, especially her critical idea on sexism, and the background of writing and publishing Beauty.(3) Analyze Beauty with Sera Mills theories from in the lexical, syntactic, semantic and contextual aspects. (4) Summarize the stylistic features of Beauty, which help to express her view on sexism from a feminist perspective. 研究方法、手段及步骤：Through the studies of Beauty in the aspects of sentence patterns, formality, transitivity patterns and theme, this thesis will focus itself on the powerlessness and discrimination of women in the society. By adopting Sara Mills theory developed by Norman Fairclough, and Wareings theory, this thesis provide the approach of analyzing the text from the transitivity patterns and grammatical transitivity structures where women encounter discrimination but have no alternative. The discussion can be classified into the lexical, syntactic, semantic and contextual aspects. Besides, for a more precise and convincing purpose, some statistical analysis are given. 参考文献：1.
