文档简介

Text 1W: Are you excited about your trip?M: I cant wait! Theres so much to see and do and eat! Paris has some of the most wonderful cheeses in the world. Text2W: Hurry up! Mums plane arrives at ten!M: What? Weve got only two hours, Jane!Text3W: This is the apartment the living room, the bedroom, the kitchen, and the bathroom. And, its only six hundred dollars a month. M: Not so cheap, actually. But its quiet, and should be a nice place for an artist.Text 4W: Dr. Heath, you seem to be busy every day. What do you do, besides giving lectures?M: I need to prepare class notes and hold office hours. However, I spend nearly two-thirds of my time doing research.Text 5W: Hey Peter, its Elaine. Im preparing for Professor Butlers presentation tomorrow, and I need the notes for last Tuesday, when I was gone. Have you got them? M: Yeah, I think so. Hold on and let me look. Text 6M: Hello, Johnsons Furniture. This is Kevin McMillan speaking. What can I do for you?W: This is Julia Paling from CC Computer. We still havent received the thirty chairs. They were supposed to have arrived by twelve oclock noon the day before yesterday. M: Im terribly sorry about that. The truck driver was ill. I spoke with our delivery department at about ten this morning, and they said that the chairs will be delivered by four this afternoon. W: Excellent. Im pleased to hear that. Text 7M: Hey Iris, I forgot to register for the courses. Im one day late, and most of the classes are full. What do you think I should do?W: Poor you, Jack! You cant do anything about that.M: Do you think going to the registration office will help now?W: No, they will tell you the same thing, in a worse way. M: Did you register yet?W: Of course. And it wasnt easy for me to register for International Trade. Its so popular. M: What classes do you think are still open? W: Maybe Modern History, and Chemistry. M: OK, what do you think about mathematics? I wanted to take that class this term. W: I took that class last year. Professor Anderson is really cool! If you go to his office, you can have him write a card that will let you in, even if the class is full. M: He does that?W: I guess thats because some people drop out of his class. M: That makes sense. I think Ill do that. Thanks for all the help. Text 8M: Shall we sit here?W: Sure! M: Why didnt you have anything on your plate?W: Well, I am not even a bit hungry. M: Is there anything wrong? Do you feel well?W: Ive been really worried. Its my computer. Its in the shop again. M: Really? Whats wrong this time?W: I dont know, exactly. There seems to be something wrong with the system. It restarts several times within an hour, and I cant save what I have typed. M: Thats too bad. W: Yeah. I need to hand in a sales report next Monday, and its already Wednesday today. Besides, I was only halfway through my report, and everything is in the computer. M: I see. Perhaps you should ask them to get it fixed in just one or two days. Then at least you still have the weekend to work on the report. W: Yes, I guess youre right. Thanks. Text 9W: Sir, youve been using the online catalog for quite a while. Is there anything I can help you find?M: Yes, thank you. Ive got to write a paper about Hollywood in the 30s and 40s, and Im really struggling. There are hundreds of books, and I just dont know where to begin. W: Your topic sounds pretty big. Why dont you narrow it down to something like, uh, the history of the comedies during that time? M: You know, I was thinking about doing that. But more than thirty books came up when I typed in “Hollywood comedies”. W: You could cut that down even further by listing the specific years you want. Try adding “1930s” or “1940s”or maybe “Golden Age”.M: “Golden Age” is a good idea! Let me type that in. Hey look! Just six books came up. Thats a lot better. I think Ill get started with these books. Thanks a lot!W: You are welcome. If you need more help, Ill be over there, at the Reference Desk.Text 10Hi, this is Francis Lake.
