Its a reading passage about making resolutions. Students should learn to talk about future intentions, make new years resolution. Theyll also get some moral education: Resolution is a kind of promise that you make to yourself. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart and well begun is half done. That is to say, its important to make a resolution.(三) Teaching aims and demands.1.Knowledge objects(1)Key words and phrases: question, meaning, discuss, promise, have to do with, take up(2)Use task-based teaching method and other games to make students have a better understanding of the passage.(3)Get students to use the target language to talk about their resolutions2. Ability objects (1)Train students abilities of reading, speaking and writing. (2)Learn how to talk about resolutions using their own words.3. Moral objects (1) Enable students to understand that its necessary and important to make a resolution at the beginning of the year. Because “Where theres a will, theres a way”. (2)Encourage students to keep a promise and form a good habit .(四) Teaching key and difficult points1. Key pointsA. Key words, phrases and also some sentences.B. How to understand the passage better.C. Learn to talk about their resolutions2. Difficult pointHow to understand “resolution”, how to express your own ideas on questioning the idea of resolution.Analysis of the studentsStudents in Grade Eight just start their new term these days, maybe this material is difficult for them because the words they have known are not enough. But luckily, students in this stage may still take a great interest in English and be active in class . Teaching methods1. Task-based teaching method.For example: Ask students to finish four tasks while reading.2. Communicative teaching method3. Student-centered teacher-guided modelStudents are the center of all activities in class, teacher is just a guide.4. Game, audio-visual teaching methodIll play a game and also watch some videos with students. Learning methods1. Cooperative learning method.For example: work with a group2. Autonomous learning method.For example: Read the passage several times to find the information. Teaching ProceduresStep 1. Warm-up and lead-inPlay a video about new year, then introduce a new word “resolution”.Purpose of my design: : To construct a relaxing and happy atmosphere, then its easy to lead into the new lesson.Step 2. Make a short self-introduction to let students know “my resolution”, then divide students into four groups.Here, Ill use some photos to introduce myself and tell students some resolutions Ive made in the past.Then, divide students into four groups just according the roles in Journey to the West.Purpose of my design: To arouse students interest and encourage them to compete to win in my class.Step 3. Read the passage.Ask students to read the passage and finish the following tasks.Task 1 Skim the passage, finish 2c, then students will get the main ideas Task 2 Scan the passage, finish 2b.Task 3 Give students a few minutes to look through the passage with four questions, then play a game.These two tasks will make students know details of the passage.Task 4 Ask students to finish a mind map, then lead them to learn about the structure of the passage.Purpose of my design: Use some tasks to help students understand the passage better, at the same time, to help them develop reading habits.Step 4. Discussion. “Do you think the best resolution is to have no resolutions?”Ask students to have a free talk. If they have trouble, Ill give them help.Purpose of my design: To help students have a better understanding of the passage, then train students to express their own ideas about resolution.Step 5. Watch a videoA video about making and keeping resolutions.Purpose of my design: To let students know making resolution is important, and keeping resolutions is as important as it, even much more important.Step 6. Homework and summary.Homework: 1.Finish 2e2. Organize an English speech contest about making the resolution.Summary: Summarize what we have done and what we have learned in this class, and ask students to finish some homework to
