Go for it ! 7A Unit 4 Wheres my schoolbag?Period One(Section A 1a-2d)Teaching PlanPart One Analysis of the Teaching Material. Status and function 1.Unit 4 has a close connection with the pre-unit, for it builds on the knowledge about some school things. So the further study to talk about certain positions is naturally presented.2.This unit focuses on the things around the house. When the students learn to talk about where things are, they should use the key words properly- table,bed,sofa,chair,desk, bookcase, ect. and the prepositions of place,such as on,in,and under.3. It not only lets the students have the ability to describe the positions of objects, but cultivates them a good habit to keep room clean and tidy.II. Teaching aims and demandsThe teaching aims are based on the New English Curriculum for Junior Middle Schools.1.Knowledge objects:(1)Corrcet usage of the new words: table, bed, sofa, chair ,desk, bookcase, etc.(2)Grasp the useage of the prepositions of place:in,on,under, etc.(3)Master where questions and yes/no questions.2.Ability objects: (1)Learn to talk about where things are.(2)Set the scene to increase the students vocabulary and give them opportunity to use the target language in controlled manner.(3)Develop the Ss ability of communication by using the sentence structures.3.Moral objects:(1)Cultivate them a good habit to keep the room clean and tidy;(2) Increase their interests in English and motivate them to speak in English.III.Teaching important points:1.Make correct usage of the new words: table, bed, bookcase, sofa, chair,bookcase, etc.; 2.Grasp the usage of the prepersitions of place:in, under, on;3.Master where questions and yesno questions;4.Verbal practice.IV.Teaching diffcult points:1. the Plural Forms of noun;2. the correct usage of the pronoun “it” and “they”;3. Subject-Verb Concord.V. Teaching aids:Multi-mediaPart Two Teaching Methods & Studying Ways. Analysis of the students:The lively students in Junior high have a bit touch with English, and they are interested in various kinds of activities.The strong desire to communicate with others in target language motivates them to learn more easily.II. Teaching Methods :1.Communicative approach 2.Situational approach 3.Students-centered approach4.Task-based approachIII.Studying Ways:1.Autonomous learning: take cognizance of the new words by themselves;2.Cooperative learning: work together to accomplish shared goals.Part Three Teaching ProcedureThe teaching procedure can be divided into 6 units.Step 1 Warming up Listen to the song “Whats this ?” Purpose: As a usual pre-class acticity, this part takes a vital role in the whole teaching process. Listening to the song here, in one aspect, can create a lively learning environment, in another, review the words and sentence structures-“Whats this that in English?”.Step 2 Lead-in A Competing Game(Show a picture of the room, and let the students try to find the things theyve known as much as possible! The whole class are grouped into three, and the one got the most will be the winner.)Purpose: 1. The competing game for the students to review the words , and to learn the new words independently.2. Also in this step, it leads to the language goal to talk about where things are.Step 3 Presentation7 items are followed in this part:1. Learn the new words, and pay attention to the plural forms of nouns.Examples: - Whats this in English? - Its a sofa.- Whatre these? - Theyre sofas.Purpose: (1)Autonomous learning is adopted here. Let the students find the unknown words by themselves can greatly motivate their desire to learn.(2)Repeating is absolutely necessary in second laguage teaching.(3)Vivid pictures give a direct image to the students, which can help them to remember the new words, also, lead to the plural form of noun.2. Show the pictures to lead the target language, especially the prepositions of place.Examples:-Where is the book? - Its in the bookcase.-Where are the books? - Theyre in the bookcase.Purpose: Based on the situational approach, the teacher first show a real thing to give an example for the students to experience, then to make a “ask-and-answer” work according to the pictures. In this way, they can have a direct image to understand easily.3. Practice the drills.Make the mechanical drills to practise the following patterns: Wheres.? Its on/in/under/. . Where are.?They are.Purpose: (1)Pairwork is the typical form in English class, because it is simple for the students to practice the targe language . (2)Communicative approach also adopted to train their verbal competence.4. Listening expressingListen and do the exercise in 2a and 2b.Purpose: The second language teaching is to train the students four basic skills, so this part is a joint form drill to meaningful conversations.5. A Guessing game.A figure covers a part of the picture, and let the students guess where the things are by using the following patterns:-Where are the.?-Are .on /in/under.?-Yes, they are. No, they arent.-Where is the.?-Is it on/in/under/?-Yes, it is. No, it isnt.Purpose: Game can mostly arouse the students learning interests, and they can achieve the goal in the process efficiently.6. Group workFind the differences between these two similar pictures, and learn to keep clean and tidy.Purpose: (1)Task-based teaching approach in this step is used to make the students have a clear aim and learn the language goal unintentionally.(2)Cooperative learning method makes them work together to accomplish the goal.7.Role-play the conversation in 2d.Read the conversationin 2d and answer the questions. According to the chart, try to act this dialogue.ThingsWhereJacks bagthe mapJacks hatPurpose:(1)Give them a certain task, so they can find the information intentionally.(2)Develop the students ability of learning independently.Step 4 Exercises1.Translate the phrases.2. Fill in the blanks.3.Look at the pictures and complete the conversations.Purpose: This step aims to check whether theyve got the language goals.Step 5 Sum upLearn the language points by themselves.Purpose: Autonomous learning method is mainly reflected .Step 6 HomeworkWrite a composition-“My room”.
