While there are plenty of authors who seem to be paid by the word and are only concerned with expanding volume, there are many authors producing fantastic works that are worthy of the word literature. Its too bad that Stephen King doesnt dabble(涉猎) more in fantasy, because he clearly has a talent for world building. Not to mention everything he writes seems to be phone book sized, which would fit right in with the fantasy genre.2. Harry Potter by J.K. RowlingWhen considering a ranking of the greatest fantasy series of all time, the question of Harry Potter is a tricky one. Theres inevitably opposition when something is as popular as Rowlings work, and add to that the fact that the series is seemingly meant for children and you have a case that naturally inspires a lot of debate. Im not sure I believe Rowling did anything particularly new with Harry Potter, but a work doesnt necessarily have to be innovative for it to be great. Nearly every fantasy series owes a debt to Tolkien for instance, but that doesnt mean Tolkien has written the only work of fantasy that matters. Rowling didnt really come up with anything new, but the connection she made with tens of millions of readers is praiseworthy. Needless to say, a 30-minute conversation covering such deep topics is typically not enough to make parents take meaningful action to improve their childrens learning experiences in the订 current schools, or to move them to alternative schools that better meet their childrens needs. Meanwhile, there are a lot of teachers and administrators who know that something is not working at their schools, but do not know what they can do to improve the situation. They have most likely never been introduced to much of the research that proves that self-directed learning is the best way to deepen learning, promote lifelong learning, and remove much of the trauma associated with forced schooling. It is not their fault, as the organizations they work for and the education schools that they attended go out of their way to ignore these topics, and instead focus on minor reforms while pushing the assumption that young people need to be forced to learn, and that schooling environments are where that happens.
