unit4 earthquakesgood evening, ladies and gentlemen,im zhang ling, a senior three english teacher from zhongmu no.2 senior high school. its my great honor to stand here sharing my lesson with all of you. the content of my lesson is senior english for china students book1 unit4: earthquakes, the second period, reading. ill begin the lesson from the following six parts. they are the analysis of the teaching material, of the students, of the teaching aims, of the teaching difficult and important points, of the teaching methods, learning methods and teaching aids, and most importantly, of my teaching procedures.part1 the analysis of the teaching materialnow allow me to introduce the first part.this lesson is a reading passage. it plays a very important role in the english teaching of this unit because we should lay particular emphasis on the students reading ability in senior english teaching. as we all know, reading almost makes up 27 of the english papers in the college entrance examination. and the students should be no stranger to earthquake and have some knowledge about it. especially after the earthquake of wenchuan and yushu, we still have lingering fear. so this lesson should not be too difficult for the students to understand. besides the language knowledge, this passage want to teach the student have courage when facing the difficulties and are willing to help others.part2 the analysis of the studentsmy students are first-grade students of senior high school. they have been learning english for three years in junior high school and have accumulated a certain number of vocabularies. they have mastered some simple learning strategies and skills with a preliminary ability of speaking and writing. however, the differences in students personality and english proficiency are very large. they dont often use english to express themselves or communicate with others. some of them are not active because they are afraid of making mistakes.so my teaching design should have gradient to meet the need of different student. i will seize the students psychological characteristics and stimulate students interest, so that they will learn to participate in the study, and learn to study in the participation.part3 the analysis of the teaching aimsin this passage we should help the students get some knowledge about the tangshan earthquake. at the same time we ought to get the student to comprehend the passage better. the students should do some listening, speaking and writing, too. of course, the students should receive some moral education. so my teaching aims includes 3 parts: knowledge aims, ability aims and moral education aims.1. knowledge aim:1.) know some knowledge about earthquake 2.) by the end of the lesson, students will have a better understanding of the meaning and structure of the text.2. ability aims:1.) use what we have learned to describe what would happen before during after an earthquake.2.) improve the reading skill and use english to express ones ideas.3. moral education aims: encourage the students to face the disaster bravely and we should always hold an optimistic attitudepart4 the analysis of the teaching important and difficult points1. important points: 1.) to get some knowledge about earthquakes.2.) to improve the students reading ability.2. difficult points: how to help the students use different reading skills for different reading aims.part5 the analysis of the teaching methods, learning methods and teaching aidsthats all for my teaching aims. now lets focus on the fifth part, analysis of the teaching theories and methods. based on the analysis of the above, when i deal with this lesson. ill do my best to carry out some teaching theories of the new curriculum: taking the students as the host and the teacher subordinate.1. teaching theories: the new curriculum (“taking the students as the host and the teacher subordinate”.)2. teaching methods: “communicative language teaching”, “take-based activity”, student-centered teaching, situational teaching3. learning methods: “discovering learning”, “cooperative learning, task-based learning4. teaching aids: a tape recorder, the blackboard and the multi-media.part6 the analysis of the teaching proceduresnow letscome to the most important par: my teaching procedures. step1. lead-in:1.) use the multi-media to show some pictures of tangshan (before the e arthquake).2.) let the students watch a short video from the film the tangshan earthquake to see what would happen before and during the earthquake (ask some students to speak out their ideas)my purpose here is to let the ss know what we are going to look at.step2. while- reading1. fast reading: skimming & scanning in this step i will let the students read the text twice.1.) skimming (扫读)read the text quickly and answer the following questions.l when and where were the strange things happening? what are they?l when did the second quake hit the city? what was the result of that?l who came to help tangnshan first? and how?2.) scanning(找读)first tell the students this passage can be divided into three parts and tell them the clue of the story : time order (tell them to pay attention to the first sentences of each para.)then let them read silently again to get the structure (after several mins i will discuss the structure with the students)part1 (para1)the rescue work after the earthquake.part2(para2-3)what happened during the earthquake and the damage of it.part3 (para4)phenomena before the earthquake.2. careful reading: intensive readingdo exercise 1 in students book on p27 (a competition: divide the ss into eight groups, and then the one who stand up fast and give the right answer can get ten marks for his group, the group which gets the highest mark will get a present) step3. consolidation:1. listen to the tape and read the passage aloud (play the tape of the passage for the students to listen and then ask them to read it aloud. tell them to pay attention to the pronunciation, stress and intonation while listening. at the same time they can enjoy the beauty of the english language. and it can prepare the students for the retelling in next step.)2. fill in the blank with proper words since the students in the class are in different levels, so first i will let them to fill in the blank to get an expression of the general idea of the text.step4. post-reading: role-play1 ask two ss do a role playing game, one acts as a reporter from china daily and another acts as a survivor of the tangshan earthquake. they will have an interview.purpose: using the method of role play, i can develop the ss oral english and deepen their understanding of the text and tell them “where there is a life, there is hope”.step5. homework1. read the text again after class and figure out the meaning of the following complex sentences (so these in class if time allows) and preview the language points in this text.2. write a short paragraph to describe what had happened before during after the ear
