PrefaceSummary of the Sixth Beijing International Forum on Sustainable Development Education Wang XianjuanIn order to further exchange the latest achievements of the United Nations education for sustainable development for ten years (2005-2014) international implementation plan (referred to as the ten year plan) which was implemented by countries, to deepen and implement the National long-term education reform and development plan (2010-2020) on the part pay attention to the education of sustainable development, and also to promote the latest achievements in the implementation of sustainable development education in China in recent years, the Sixth Beijing international forum on sustainable development education was held in Beijing from 22-24th. This forum is led by the national Ministry of education, China National Commission for UNESCO. It is organized by Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Beijing Education and Teaching Institute of Science, The peoples Government of Beijing City, Dongcheng District, the UNESCO Office in Beijing, China National Working Committee for education for sustainable development etc.2013 is a key year for all countries to further promote the ten year plan. The United Nations will hold the World Conference on education for sustainable development in 2014. The conference will review and summarize and promote the sustainable development of education experience and meet the review of United Nations and the international community. To continue to carry out the sustainable development of education related work in the ten year plan and lay the basis of practice and policy foundation has become the world the important work of promoting the sustainable development of education.Under this background, as the important brand activities of international education for sustainable development, closely around the reality of international community of Chinas sustainable development education, Beijing sustainable development international forum focused on Education for sustainable development: towards tomorrows education: a review of the ten years of sustainable development education in the United Nations and its future prospects. It reviewed the United Nations Ten year plan, Shaping the future of education - the United Nations education for sustainable development in ten years-2012 Report and other important documents. Around the subjects such as education for sustainable development policy and theoretical innovation; promotion of education for sustainable development in the region and development in school, sustainable development education curriculum construction and teaching and learning innovation, sustainable development and youth mission and others, the forum carried out effective exchanges and seminars on related actions and results of all countries. Leaders from the Ministry of education of China, Beijing municipal government, Beijing Education Committee attended the forum. If we say that the cost of our cultural and educational success today is to enhance the capacity for consumption and the destruction of nature. In the future, the culture of the sustainable development model is not going to measure peoples consumption ability as a sign of success. It will be a new culture. The education of sustainable development will certainly promote the new culture.The chairman of UNESCO social learning and sustainable developmentProfessor of Holland University of Wageningen, the author of the United Nations Educational Evaluation Report on ten years of sustainable development Mr. Arjen Wals has made a deep explanation of the relevant knowledge and practice of sustainable development education from four aspects: (1) sustainable development education must be integrated; (2) ESD needs to be reflected in the curriculum (3) the sustainable development of education related capacity building; (4) the importance of various types of education linkage.
