Where does he work now? And why didnt he work in his hometown?Ss: He works in Wenzhou. Because he can make more money in Wenzhou.1. Pre-reading.Activity 1: Discussion.T: So he leaves his hometown for Wenzhou for a better job. I have some questions here. Why do millions of Chinese leave their hometown? How often do they visit their hometown? Why dont they visit their hometown often? (T shows these three questions on PPT.)Ss:On this step, Ss can use their previous knowledge.Activity 2: Prediction.T shows the title of the reading and two pictures from the textbook on PPT.T: I have a title and two pictures for you. Can you find out the differences between the old classroom and the new classroom? Ss:T: There are many changes here. Now read the title and look at these two pictures. Can you guess what does this passage talk about?Ss:T makes a summary according to Sss answers: The writer express hometown feelings by describing the changes in hometown. And we can get an idea that, sometimes, we can use the title and the pictures to help us get the main idea.2. While-readingActivity 1: Skimming.T: Skim the passage. You need to read quickly and match the main ideas.Para1Para2&3Para4(T shows the chart on PPT.)Activity2: Careful reading.Para 1.T shows the passage of Para1 on PPT. And there are three questions below the passage.Q1: Why does Zhong Wei leave his hometown?Q2: How often does Zhong Wei visit his hometown?Q3: Why doesnt he visit his hometown often?Ss need to find out the answers from Para1. They have two minutes to finish it.Ss also need to learn to guess the meaning of new words by context. T will give an example:I used to return home at least once a year, but I havent been back for almost three years now.Return v.s. be back.
