Teaching aims and demands.According to the situation of students in Grade 8, I set the following aims. Knowledge aims: 1. Master the new words and phrases.2. Know how to tell stories and legends with past tense.Ability aims:1. Enable students to master the skills of using conjunctionscorrectly.2. Train students ability of using WH-phrases to describe the beginning, development and the ending of stories.Moral aims:Educate and encourage students not be afraid of problems and difficulties in life.And cultivate the spirit of never giving up.III. Teaching key and difficult points.Have students master the skills of using conjunctionsto describe stories correctly.Enable students to use the new words and phrases to retell the details and characters of stories or legends by themselves.IV. Teaching methods and aids.1. Communicative teaching method2. Audio-visual teaching method3. Task-based teaching methodIll mainly use “Communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method and “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, Ill give the students some tasks and arrange some kinds of activities, such as talking, guessing games, watching videos, having a relay race and a debate.It is helpful to develop the Ss thoughts with these methods. So Multi-media computer, Tape recorder, Powerpoint or Authorware will be needed in this lesson.V. Teaching procedure.There are four main steps in the teaching procedure. Step1. Warming-up and leading-in. (5mins) First, before class. Ill play some pieces of music to remind students of Chinese old stories and legends. And then set some questions for students and ask them what stories they like best. Afterwards, play some short videos and show some pictures about main characters of each story on the screen to present the new words and phrases. Step2. Presentation. (10 mins)Task1. Free talkHave students say something about the stories theyre familiar in English. Lead them to use some conjunctions. Task2. Listening (5 mins)Play the recorder and let students finish the task in 1b and check the answers. Then let them find out how to describe stories and point out the key points in the passage.Step3. Consolidation (8mins)Task3. Group workHave students work in pairs and then make a conclusion about the steps of telling stories. Lead them to pay attention to WH-questions.Then draw a mind map to make a conclusion about each step of telling stories to help students understand better.Task4. The relay race (7mins)Let all students participate in the game to retell the story one by one.Purpose of my design: Check the teaching results by outputting the information.After the game, set a debate(7mins) for students. “What do you think about the story of Yu Gong?” Lead students to express their own ideas about the story, expand students creation and imagination. Step 4 Conclusion (2mins)Life is just like a story book. We are different characters. A good beginning plays an important role in our life. Details make the story wonderful .We will be brave and never give up as soon as we face any difficulties. You should work with your group and trust yourself. Then you will have a perfect ending one day.Step5. Homework. (1min)There are 2 tasks for students to do after class.
