Please turn to page 31. First lets enjoy a song! When you listen to it, please pay attention to the verbs in the lyrics. Now lets listen to it. (Play the song Are you Sleeping?) Do you like this song? Yes! I like it, too. So are you sleeping now? Good!I hope not! And what are you doing now? Look at the three words “sleeping, watching and doing”,what do they have in common? So in this class we will talk about “Present Progressive Tense”. So whats the structure of Present Progressive Tense?Listen to the song and find the v-ing forms.No!We are having an English class.We add “-ing” to the verbs.be+v-ing formThe Audio-lingual MethodStep 2 PresentationNow lets look at some pictures and say what they are doing.1.Whats she doing?2.Whats she doing?3.Whats he doing?4.Whats she doing?5.Whats he doing? 6.Whats she doing?7.Whats he doing?8.Whats she doing? (That means she is calling someone, right?)9.What are they doing?10.Look! Who are they? Yeah, they are your teachers! What are they doing?11. Guessing: Look at the pictures carefully and guess what they are doing.Now we have met so many V-ing forms, so lets summarize the ways of changing.1. Add “-ing” directly;2.Delete letter “e” and add “-ing”;3.Rewrite the last letter and add “-ing”.Shes listening to a CD. Shes using the computer.Hes reading a newspaper.Shes exercising.Hes washing the dishes. (or we can also say “doing the dishes”)Shes cleaning.Hes making soup.Shes talking on the phone.They are watching TV.They are our teachers!They are taking photos.Change the v-ing forms and read the words.Situational Language Teaching (SLT)Step 3 1aNow Lets review the phrases in this class. Whats she doing in Picture b?.He is talking on the phone.She is making soup.Step 4 1bNow we will listen to a conversation, and in this conversation, Jenny, John, Dave and Mary are doing something at the same time. Lets listen to it and find what they are doing. Write the numbers in 1a.Check the answers with you partner:What is Jenny doing?What is John doing?What are Dave and Mary doing?Now lets listen to the material again and read. Try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation.She is watching TV.He is washing the dishes.They are listening to a CD.Read the material.Step 5 PairworkIn this part, you will work with your partner.
