Explain the structure of the present continuous tense.Step 2 PresentationShow a picture of playing basketball and ask:T: What is the boy doing?S: He is playing basketball.Then say: If the action happened at this time yesterday,how can we talk about it?Help students say: What was the boy doing at this time yesterday?T: What was the boy doing at this time yesterday?S: He was playing basketball.Explain the usage and the structure of the past progressive tense:was/were + v.-ingShow the pictures of doing the homework, reading, going to work, waiting for the bus and shopping.Have students work in pairs , let them ask and answer.Step 3 Presentation1a. Look at these people. Where were they and what were they doing at he time of the rainstorm?Ask them to talk about it.Then ask some students to answer the questions.Have students read the instruction in 1a and match the statements with the people in the picture.Check the answers in class.Step 4 Listening Have students read the phrases in 1b and the question the TV reporter asked aloud.Ask them to listen to the tape and circle the correct responses in the conversation.Check the answers.Step 5 PracticeLet students work in group of four.One is the reporter, and others are the people in picture a, b , c,d. Then ask them to think about what their family were doing at the time of the rainstorm and make their own conversations with their partners.Call several pairs to act out their conversations in class.Step 6 Listening Teach the new words “alarm” and the phrases “go off” and “take a shower” by using pictures.Have students look at the pictures in 2a and describe them.Tell students that this is a story about a boy yesterday morning.Have them look at the pictures and guess the order of the story happened.Play the tape the first time, students only listen and get a general idea of it.Play the tape the second time. This time ask them to write the numbers in front of the pictures.Check the answers in class.Let students go through the sentences for each picture in 2a.Play the tape again and let them complete the sentences.Check the answers in class.Step 7 PairworkHave students read the sentences in 2a and 2c, and the teacher explains the adverbial clauses with “when” in 2a and 2c.Then ask them to describe the picture by using the adverbial clauses with when.Have students work in pairs to make up a conversation between the boy and a TV reporter to retell the story according to the information in 2a.Call some pairs to act out their conversations in class.Step 8 Role-play First, have students role-play the conversation in 2d in groups and choose the best one.In groups, students discuss the language points and solve the problems. The teacher walks around and gives them some help.Explain the key phrases “pick up”and the adverbial clauses with “when”and “while”in 2d.Then tell them the different usage of when and while.Let students do some substitution drills to practice the usuage of when and while.Step 9 Language points and Summary 1.pick up 1)意为“拾起;捡起;拿起”Jack picked up a wallet in the street.2) 意为“顺便接某人”Wait here and Ill pick you up at 3 p.m.2.Oh,I was in the kitchen helping my mom.句中helping my mom是现在分词短语作伴随状语。它所表示的动作与谓语动词表示的动作同时发生。Step 10 Exercises用所给词的适当形式填空。1.
