Unit 5 Why do you like pandas ? Section A(1a-2c)The analysis of the teaching material:This lesson is the first period of Unit 5 Why do you like pandas ?.So if the students can learn it well, it will be helpful to make the students learn the rest of this unit.It is a listening and speaking lesson. It is focus on observe and describe animals. This lesson gives the students a chance to talk about the animals and tell their likes or dislikes. It is a good chance for the students to communicate with others.The analysis of the students:Our school is a junior middle school in a small town. Most of the students in Class 8,Grade 7 are from the countryside. Their English is a little poor,especially the spoken English , but they work hard and eager to learn the English well. A lot of students are good at writing,but they are too shy to speak English in front of the people. In my opinion, speaking English more is the most important thing for them.Teaching Aims :1.Language aims: (1) Master the words :Animals : tiger, elephant, panda, lion, koala, giraffe.Description words : cute, lazy, smart, beautiful, scary,friendly,shy.(2) Master the sentences : What animals do you like? Lets see the ? -Why do you like.?-Because they are . -Why dont you like .?-Because they are .2. Ability aims : To observe and describe animals. To practice the spoken English. To practice the listening skills. To know how to communicate with others.3. Moral aims : The animals are our friends , they bring a lot of fun to us ,so love animals,love ourselves.Teaching important points : How to describe the animals. The target language: -Why do you like.? -Because they are .Teaching difficult points : Use the description words to describe animals.Teaching methods:The Communicative Approach, the Situational Teaching Method and the Cooperative Learning Method. Teaching tools : A multimedia computerTeaching procedures :Step 1: Warming-up Let the students enjoy a short video. It talks about favorite animals. After that ,the teacher will ask 2 or 3 students like this : T: What is your favorite animal ? S: My favorite animal is . T: Do you want to see your favorite animal now ? S: Yes. T: lets go to the zoo.The aims of this activities : let the students interest in class, lead in the animals.Step 2: Presentation Let the students look at the pictures of tigers, try to tell the description words: scary ,friendly, cute, beautiful,lazy and smart. And write on the blackboard. T: Look at the tiger, from the picture we know this tiger is. S: Scary. T: Read after me .scary S: Scary. . Learn other description words in this way.The aims of this activities : To learn the description words.Step 3 : Guessing gameLet the students look at the pictures, and guess what animal it is from the parts of the body. T: What animal is it ? Guess. S: It is a lion. T: Great , can you spell lion ? S: L-I-O-N. .Then they will learn other animals in this way.The aims of this activities : To learn the animals.Step 4 : Pair work Work in pairs, talk about the animals using the description words. The students can make the conversations like the next one or their own conversations. T: Do you like koalas? S: Yes, I do. T:Why do you like them? S: Because theyre cute and beautiful. T: Lets see them first. S: OK. Lets go.The aims of this activities : To practice the animals,description words and the sentences.Step 5 : ListeningListen to the tape and finish 2a,2b.2a Listen and write the animals you hear. Draw a line from the animals to the description words and the countries they are from. Animals Description words Countries 1. _ really scary Australia 2. _ kind of interesting South Africa 3. _ very cute China2b Listen again. Complete the conversation with the words in 2a. Julie: Theyre from _.The aims of this activities : To practice the listening skills.Step 6 : Group workLet the students work in the groups.Talk about the animals, such as(例如):tiger, lion, panda, koala, giraffe, elephant,cat, dog, pig., remember to tell us the reasons(原因).Plan A: Work with other students, make a conversation about the animals.Plan B: Ask your group members about the animals ,then report in English.They can choose plan A or plan B. The next form is for plan B.The aims of this activities : To let the students work together , learn to how to communicate with others and practice the target language.Step 7 : ExercisesLet the students do exercises,and write down the answers on their exercise books. Then the teacher will check the answers one by one.The aims of this activities : To practice the target language.
