Teaching DesignNo.4 Middle schoolMa Lihui Part 1 The analysis of the teaching material This lesson is a reading passage, which focused on the topic about how to protect the endangered animals .It aims to raise the studentsawareness ofCaring for animals and protecting the environment.Part II The Analysis of studentsThe students are familiar with the topic of protecting animals butthey cant express it well in English because they havelearned English for less than a year .And they dont know much about reading skills (According to the analysis of the teaching material and student analysis , I design the following teaching objectives) Part III Teaching Objectives1. Knowledge objectives (1).Learn to use the new words and phrases about protecting endangered animals : in danger, a symbol of , cut down, lose one s homes, killfor, be made of , save)(2). Understand the main idea of the article2. Ability objectives (1) ToDevelop the Ssreading skills of skimming and scanning. (2)To train the Ss skills of learning to grasp the main idea 3. Emotion objectives Raise the students awareness of caring for animals and protecting the environment Part IV Teaching Key And Difficult Points 1. To help students master the new words and expressions :a symbol of ,lose ones homes , cut down, in danger, kill.for, , save2. To lead the students to find out the main idea and some detailed information by using some reading skills :skimming and scanning 3. To raise Ss skills of guessing the meaning of new words and phrases.Part V Teaching methods In this lesson Ill mainly use “Communicative ”teaching method“Audio-visual” teaching method and “Task-based” teaching method to have the Ss get a better understanding of the passage.Part VI Teaching proceduresStep 1 Warming-up and leading in (3mins) Brainstorm Show some pictures about the passage to the students and then ask them to say “what can you see?”as quickly as they can .Purpose of my design: Have the students learn some information about the passage and get familiar with some new words . I think it is easy for Ss to remember words with pictures . Its a kind of Intuitive learning (直观)The method is useful to Ss memory .Step IIPre-reading _Prediction (3mins)Ask the students to predict the content of the article according to the pictures that they have learned .Purpose of design :To arouse the students learning interest through prediction Whose prediction is just right to the passage ? Go to find out the answer quickly . Step III While-reading I. Fast Reading-skimming (4 mins)Task 1: Read the passage quickly to find out the best title and pay more attention to the first sentence of each paragraph . Its very crucial for the students to understand a passage .In the passage , the first sentence is just the main idea of each paragraph.2. Careful Reading -scanning (15 mins)Task 2:Read the article again and find out the main idea of each paragraph Para1 The elephant is one of Thailands symbols.Para 2 Elephants are smart animals Para 3 Elephants are in great danger.Para 4 How to save the elephants Task 3 Complete the mind map bythemselves Task 4: Ask the Ss to discuss in groups.Purpose of my design : “Task-based”teaching method is used here to develop the Ss reading skills . The mind map helps to organize scattered information to make the knowledge systematic. It helps students to get detailed information . . Doing by themselves can train the students ability of thinking independently .Discussing in groups can develop teamwork spirit . Ask the students to try to remember as much information as they can ,then be ready to play a game. Thus ,the students interest will be aroused ,they must learn the knowledge carefully . Step VI Post -reading-Games (7 mins)There are 4 pictures about different animals which correspond different tasks on the same screen . Each task is related to the main knowledge in the lesson.Ill divide the students into 4 groups and each group chooses one of them.Purpose of my design: 1. To arouse Ss interest of learning 2. To enable Ss to master the important points better.to face the High School Entrance Examination.The tasks I designed are similar to the exercises of High School Entrance ExaminationHave Ss fill in the blank to retell the passage as quickly as they can.Purpose of my design: To consolidate the new words and phrases in the lesson .Step VII Enjoy a video (5 mins)Ask the students to watch a video and then finish a short passage according to the information in it . Where do live? Why do people cut /kill/put .into .?What should we do ? We mustnt eat or buy Optional words : shark (鲨鱼),fin(鱼鳍),,medicine (药) cruel( 残忍地) Blackboard Design Symbol Own ability Save Purpose: To consolidate what they have learned in the lesson and enlarge
