To recognize and correct mistakes about inappropriate level of formality in finished work.3. To use the two ways of language freely. How to use the two ways under different circumstances.4. Speak up:talking about a new chairpersonTeaching difficulties: 1. To recognize and understand different levels of formality in the English language, both when writing and speaking English. 2 . To use the ways of expressions freely.Teaching procedures: Step1 check the preparation out。 1. Work in groups to check out the prepared work. 2.Try to find the mistakes of the letter. Step 2 Presentation Speak up 1. Listen to the tape, try to answer the question what does Peter like? 2. Ask students to work in pairs. Encourage them to discuss Suzy and David. Remind them that they can use the conversation in Part B as a model. For weaker classes, allow students to write down their conversations first.Step 3 Practice1.Make up dialogues as many as you can .2.Get some of the Ss speak up .3. language points:(1)enough - 1)adv. 修饰形容词,副词,放在它们的后面。adj./adv. + enough l S+ V+ adj./adv.+ (for sb) enough (not) to do sth l S+V+ so+ adj./adv + that + 从句l S+V+ too+ adj./adv+( for sb) to do sth注意:当 adj./adv.+ enough to do sth 为肯定句时,可以改为 so+ adj./adv + that + 从句, 不可改为 too+ adj./adv+to do sth当 adj./adv.+ enough to do sth 为否定句时,可以改为 so+ adj./adv + that + 从句, 也可改为 too+ adj./adv+to do sth当句子的主语不是to do sth的逻辑主语时,用for sb放在to do sth的前面。 当句子的主语同时又是to do sth的逻辑宾语时,宾语省略。如果to do sth中的do是不及物动词,则要加上适当的介词。 tooto也有和的特点,但sothat没有这种用法。 2)Adj. 修饰名词,放在它的前面。 enough+ n.3)n. 单独使用。 We are full because we have eaten enough. (2)Do you think Peter would be a good chairperson?Would:用于委婉的陈述(如上句) 客气的请求 Would you please? 委婉的建议 Wouldnt it be better for us to start off earlier tomorrow morning?(3)come up with 提出、提供 think of 想到、考虑、思索eg. Lets come up with /think of a way out of the difficulty. Can you come up with a better suggestion? We have a thousand and one things to think of before we can decide. Step4 Presentation Study skills1. Review formal or informal language, endings and slang. For stronger classes, ask students to explain the meanings of the words and/or give Chinese translations. For weaker classes, you can tell them the meanings.2. Make sure students recognize that the picture of a pencil represents written language while the mouth represents spoken language.3. Explain the difference between abbreviations and contractions.Try to understand the different ways of the formal and informal language. Step5 Practice 1. Tell students to look at Kittys letter and try to find the mistakes by underlining parts of the letter on page 16 which they believe are inappropriate.2. Ask students to write down why they believe a part of the letter is inappropriate. Remind them to use the phrases.3. Check the answers with the partner.4. Get some of them give the answers out.1).Work in pairs to prepare the answers and explain the reason of the use.2).At Step 3, try to make more Ss stand up and give more various answers. Step6Exercises Step7 Sum up:How to write a formal recommendation letter? 1) Pay attention to t6he following:Its a formal letter. So we must use a formal language. Please turn to page 16 and review Formal and informal language. We should not use informal greetings such as Hi.We should not use informal endings such as Cheers. . 2)A formal recommendation letter includes the following :Heading(Address.
