. . . .The Value of Tears(36-40. D E C A G)Tears can ruin makeup,bring conversation to a stop,and give you a runny nose. They can leave you embarrassed and without energy. However,crying is a fact of life,and tears are very useful. Even when youre not crying,they make a film over the eyes surface._36_ _When tears fall,they reduce stress. But we tend to fight them for all sorts of reasons. “People worry about showing their emotions,afraid that once they lose control theyll never get it back.” _37_ After we cry,the feelings that caused the tears often disappear.Sometimes people become much stressed and cant cry. Whatever emotion they are feelingshock,anger,fear,or sadness is being held back.But everyone has the need to cry. Psychologist Vera Diamond explains that her treatment often consists of giving people permission to cry._38_ Patients practice crying just to become used to express emotions. She suggests safe,private places to cry,like under the bedcovers or in the car. Crying is a way of ease tension,but people dont like it when others cry because it makes them tense._39_And theyll do just about anything to make you stop.In certain situations,such as at work,tears are not appropriate. Its good not to cry during a tense business discussion._40_ You should also act out the whole situation again and be as noisy and angry as you like. It will help you feel better. “And,” she adds,“once your tears have taken away the stress,you can begin to think calmly of ways to deal with the problem.”Tears are a sign of our ability to feel. If you find yourself near someone crying,deal with it. You dont like to displease people. So you never express your real feelings. _38_.If you sleep on your stomach, you are a rather secretive person. You worry a lot and youre always easily upset. You always stick to your own opinions or judgment, but you arent very ambitious. _39_. This means that you enjoy having a good time.If you sleep curled up, you are probably a very nervous person. You have a low opinion of yourself and so youre often delusive(不真实的,虚假的 ).Youre shy and you dont normally like meeting people. Its easy to lose sight of the greater meaning in our life when running our business and making time for our family and friends. 36 Rank our values. Many people are successful, but people who live lives of real significance actually think about and work for others instead of just collecting wealth. Theyre getting involved in ordinary activities that make a difference to others or fulfill a need in their communities. 37 The hard work they put in helping others is reflecting the values that are most meaningful to them.Think locally. People who live significant lives dont necessarily jet around on airplanes going to so-called extraordinary events and board meetings. 38 That could mean creating a great employment environment for a dozen people, raising funds for a cancer charity, or volunteering in a local school district. The key is that your actions are in agreement with your values and you are committed to making a positive difference. 39 Donate your old clothes and books to children in poor areas. Join a volunteering project. Help set up a waste bin for used batteries in your building. Hand out leaflets to your neighbors on how to protect themselves in the growing air pollution. 40 Were giving more than were taking away and making them better because of it. when people say “I like myself best when Im with you, and you know youre making the world a better place,” youre living a life of significance.A. But experts argue that polythene bags are bad for the environment and public health While the bags are thin, they never really break down into small pieces through natural processes. 38 They have also been blamed for killing animals who eat them or become trapped in them. NEMA officials have been urging retail (零售) businesses and companies in the capital city to obey the new ban. They are supporting a campaign known as the “take-bag” project. 39 “I hope soon well start seeing people who are carrying out these recycling materials, or alternative bags, which are eco-friendly. All this is creating much more employment than is being lost.” Said Geoffrey Wahungu, the director general of NEMA. 40 In Kenya, two plastic bag importers attempted to overturn the ban in court last week. But their effort failed. The National Association of Manufacturers says the ban will cost the country more than 60,000 jobs. Some producers of plastic bags also oppose the idea of banning bags. A. Set aside money from a daily routine to donate Giving doesnt have to mean a life full of sacrifices, You can still buy a burger or get your nails done. 40 Donate the money you save: Even $5 can make a difference in someones life. The conditions in which many people lived when they first arrived were very difficult. However , most immigrants managed to establish themselves. 40 The U, S. today is called the melting pot since people who came from different countries have all become Americans. A.
