time.Best of all,you can do it for pure enjoyment. Its walking.Theres something about walking thats different from jogging. When Im jogging,Im constantly challenging myself to go farther or faster, sweat more, and breathe harder. But when Im walking,Im taking time to go outside and put one foot in front of the other while I look around, breathe, and feel the sun and the wind. When I walk,Im submerging(浸没) myself in life.On walks,I make friends with myself. That little voice in my head asks,“How are you going to finish three major projects this week?” I answer,“Now,calm down. This is your time.No deadlines,no projects,no havetodos.”Walks alone and walks with companions each have their own pleasures. On walks with companions, acquaintances become friends and friendships deepen. There are always memories and thoughts to share on walks.I also enjoy walking anywhere with my children, who constantly open my eyes to new discoveriesrolling down a hill,or finding a strange rock.Walking expands their minds and teaches them about nature.Years ago, when I read “Pride and Prejudice”,I noticed Elizabeth Bennet walked three miles to visit her sister. Then I learned that the Romantic poetsWilliam Wordsworth,John Keats, and Percy Bysshe Shelleyfrequently walked for hours for creative inspiration.I might not have been able to write like these poets but I could take walks as they did,I thought. Then I became interested in the activity.Because I walk so often,I now have a list of my favorite walking spots. One of my favorite spots is a park near my house. The park lets me experience the cycle of the seasons at my convenience.Where else can you appreciate the beauty in the world except on a walk? Why not take a walk and do it for pleasure?【语篇解读】 作者结合自己的体会向读者推荐了一种业余爱好散步。1Compared with jogging, walking _.Ais more boring Bis more relaxingCneeds more energy Dtakes less time答案B推理判断题。根据第二段I look around, breathe, and feel the sun and the wind.和When I walk,Im submerging myself in life.可知,作者认为散步更加使人放松。2The author seems to believe that _.Awalks may help promote friendshipBwalks help build childrens independenceCone had better walk without companionsDone can solve hard problems during walks答案A细节理解题。根据第四段acquaintances become friends and friendships deepen.可知,散步有助于发展友谊。3From Paragraph 6 we learn _.Athe benefits of readingBwhy the author loves poemsChow the author started walkingDthe importance of creative inspiration答案C段落大意题。根据段末Then I became interested in the activity可知,作者在本段回顾了自己是如何喜欢上散步的。4Why does the author write the passage?ATo stress the importance of literature.BTo give advice about daily exercise.CTo show the benefits of doing sports.DTo recommend walking to the readers.答案D写作目的题。根据第一段和最后一段可知,文章的写作目的是向读者推荐一种业余爱好散步。故选D。BAfter a discussion last week,“Do School Libraries Need Books?”,the comments from readers included some firsthand views from students.Below are excerpts(摘录) from their observations on how studying has changed and how they use libraries. It makes little difference whether the book you are reading is electronic or paper. But if you want a place to read,a library is still the place to go.As a kid in school,I often avoid the study hall noises and go to the quiet school library. The library is a place.A learning place.Modern technology wont change the library as long as things are learned.ScottBeing a student I am aware that many of us seldom look at the books in the library unless told to do so by a teacher as a requirement for an assignment. It takes time to find the very book you want at the library, and it may not be necessary to do so.More and more students, such as myself, use the Internet for nearly every assignment. There are countless online resources for us to use with a click of the mouse.Whats more, books are very expensive and schools could put that money toward charities.HayleyHI hope schools continue to have libraries. As a student,I know there is a difference between reading something on a screen and something printed. When I read something in a book that I do not understand or want to look further into,I record it and will research later or discuss with someone. With a screen (especially online) I will instantly access the information and look into the question at hand, which interrupts my reading and especially my imagination.AllieTo me,it depends on the purpose of the book.As a student,I prefer to do research online.Online research is faster and more efficient. But when Im reading for pleasure,I absolutely refuse to give up a real book. The tactile sensation(触感) and freedom that real books give you really makes the reading experience more enjoyable. So,my suggestion is that schools have more digital collections for research and scholarly work, and a good selection of interesting and ageappropriate fiction and nonfiction for pleasure reading.CM【语篇解读】 在电子图书和在线阅读日益普及的今天,一些学生对学校图书馆的功能发表了各自的看法。5In Scotts opinion,_.Aits necessary for a school to have a libraryBthere are many learning places better than a libraryCthe school library is noisy and crowded in most casesDelectronic books are totally different from paper books答案A细节理解题。由Scott所说的话The library is a place.A learning place.Modern technology wont change the library as long as things are learned.可知,他认为图书馆有存在的必要性。6According to the text,HayleyH _.Ahopes school libraries can provide more booksBoften searches for information at the libraryCsuggests schools spend less money on booksDthinks students rely on paper books to learn 答案C推理判断题。根据文中books are very expensive and schools could put that money toward charities.可知,HayleyH认为学校应该少买些书。7Allie believes that compared with book reading, screen reading_.Atakes more timeBinterrupts her imaginationCprovides more informationDallows her to discuss with others答案B细节理解题。根据文中With a screen (especially online) I will instantly access the information and look into the question at hand, which interrupts my reading and especially my imagination.可知,Allie在进行屏幕阅读(特别是在线阅读)的时候,如果遇到问题,当时她就会去查找相关信息,结果她的阅读思路和想象总是被打断。8Who prefers printed books when reading for fun?AScott.
