Lesson 1 A private conversation 私人谈话Last week I went to the theatre. I had a very good seat. The play was very interesting. I did not enjoy it. A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me. Im having breakfast, I repeated.Dear me, she said. Do you always get up so late ? Its one oclock!Lesson 3 Please send me a card 请给我寄一张明信片 Postcards always spoil my holidays. Last summer, I went to Italy. I visited museums and sat in public gardens. A friendly waiter taught me a few words of Italian. Then he lent me a book. I read a few lines, but I did not understand a word. Every day I thought about postcards. My holidays passed quickly, but I did not send any cards to my friends. On the last day I made a big decision. I got up early and bought thirty-seven cards. I spent the whole day in my room, but I did not write a single card !Lesson 4 An exciting trip 激动人心的旅行I have just received a letter from my brother, Tim. He is in Australia. He has been there for six months. Tim is an engineer. He is working for a big firm and he has already visited a great number of different places in Australia. He has just bought an Australian car and has gone to Alice Springs, a small town in the centre of Australia. He will soon visit Darwin. From there, he will fly to Perth. My brother has never been abroad before, so he is finding this trip very exciting.Lesson 5 No wrong numbers 无错号之虞 Mr James Scott has a garage in Silbury and now he has just bought another garage in Pinhurst. Pinhurst is only five miles from Silbury, but Mr Scott cannot get a telephone for his new garage, so he has just bought twelve pigeons. Yesterday, a pigeon carried the first message from Pinhurst to Silbury. The bird covered the distance in three minutes. Up to now, Mr Scott has sent a great many requests for spare parts and other urgent messages from one garage to the other. In this way, he has begun his own private telephone service.Lesson 6 Percy Buttons 珀西巴顿斯I have just moved to a house in Bridge Street. Yesterday a beggar knocked at my door. He asked me for a meal and a glass of beer. In return for this, the beggar stood on his head and sang songs. I gave him a meal. He ate the food and drank the beer. Then he put a piece of cheese in his pocket and went away. Later a neighbour told me about him. Everybody knows him. His name is Percy Buttons. He calls at every house in the street once a month and always asks for a meal and a glass of beer.Lesson 7 Too late 为时太晚 The plane was late and detectives were waiting at the airport all morning. They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamond from South Africa. A few hours earlier, someone had told the police that thieves would try to steal the diamonds. When the plane arrived, some of the detectives were waiting inside the main building while others were waiting on the airfield. Two men took the parcel off the plane and carried it into the Customs House. While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, two others opened the parcel. To their surprise, the precious parcel was full of stones and sand!Lesson 8 The best and the worst 最好的和最差的Joe Sanders has the most beautiful garden in our town. Nearly everybody enters for The Nicest Garden Competition each year, but Joe wins every time. Bill Friths garden is larger than Joes. Bill works harder than Joe and grows more flowers and vegetables, but Joes garden is more interesting. He has made neat paths and has built a wooden bridge over a pool. I like gardens too, but I do not like hard work. Every year I enter for the garden competition too, and I always win a little prize for the worst garden in the town!Lesson 9 A cold welcome 冷遇On Wednesday evening, we went to the Town Hall. It was the last day of the year and a large crowd of people had gathered under the Town Hall clock. It would strike twelve in twenty minutes time. Fifteen minutes passed and then, at five to twelve, the clock stopped. The big minute hand did not move. We waited and waited, but nothing happened. Suddenly someone shouted, Its two minutes past twelve! The clock has stopped! I looked at my watch. It was true. The big clock refused to welcome the New Year. At that moment everybody began to laugh and sing.Lesson 10 Not for jazz 不适于演奏爵士乐We have an old musical instrument. It is called a clavichord(翼琴). It was made in Germany in 1681. Our clavichord is kept in the living-room. It has belong to our family for a long time. The instrument was bought by my grandfather many years ago. Recently it was damaged by a visitor. She tried to play jazz on it! She struck the keys too hard and two of the strings were broken. My father was shocked. Now we are not allowed to touch it. It is being repaired by a friend of my fathers.Lesson 11 One good turn deserves another 礼尚往来I was having dinner at a restaurant when Harry Steele came in. Harry worked in a lawyers office years ago, but he is now working at a bank. He gets a good salary, but he always borrows money from his friends and never pays it back. Harry saw me and came and sat at the same table. He has never borrowed money from me. While he was eating, I asked him to lend me &2. To my surprise, he gave me the money immediately. I have never borrowed any money from you, Harry said, so now you can pay for my dinner!Lesson 12 Goodbye and good luck 再见，一路顺风Our ncighbour, Captain Charles Alison, will sail from Portsmouth tomorrow. We shall meet him at the harbour early in the morning. He will be in his small boat, Topsail.Tapsail is a famous little boat. It has sailed across the Atlantic many times. Captain Alison will set out at eight oclock so we shall have plenty of time. We shall see his boat and then we shall say good-bye to him. He will be away for two months. We are very proud of him. He will take part in an important race across the Atlantic.Lesson 13 The Greenwood Boys 绿林少年The Greenwood Boys are a group of popular singers. At present, they are visiting all parts of the country. They will be arriving here tomorrow. They will be coming by train and most of the youngpeople in the town will be meeting them at the station. Tomorrow evening they will be singing at the Workers Club. The Greenwood Boys will be staying for five days. During this time, they will give five performances. As usual, the police will have a difficult time. They will be trying to keep order. It is always the same on these occasions.Lesson 14 Do you speak English? 你会讲英语吗？I had an amusing experience last year. After I had left a small village in the south of France, I drove on to the next town. On the way, a young man waved to me. I stopped and he asked me for a lift. As soon as he had got into the car, I said good morning to him in French and he replied in the same language. Apart from a few words, I do not know any French at all. Neither of us spoke during the journey. I had nearly reached the town, when the young man suddenly said, very slowly, Do you speak English? As I soon learnt, he was English himself!Lesson 15 Good news 佳音 The secretary told me that Mr. Harmsworth would see me. I felt very nervous when. I went into his office. He did not look up from his desk when I entered. After I had sat down, he said that business was very bad. He told me that the firm could not afford to pay such large salaries. Twenty people had already left. I knew that my turn had come. Mr. Harmsworth, I said in a weak voice. Dont interrupt, he Said. Then he smiled and told me I would receive an extra &100 a year!Lesson 16 A polite request 彬彬有礼的要求If you park your car in the wrong place, a traffic policeman will soon find it. You will be very lucky if he lets you go without a ticket. However, this does not always happen. Traffic police are sometimes very polite. During a holiday in Sweden, I found this note on my car: Sir, we welcome you to our city. This is a No Parking area. You will enjoy your stay here if you pay attention to our street signs. This note is only a reminder. If you receive a request like this, you cannot fail to obey it!Lesson 17 Always young 青年常驻My aunt Jennifer is an actress. She must be at least thirty-five years old. In spite of this, she often appears on the stage as a young girl. Jennifer will have to take part in a new play soon. This time, she will be a girl of seventeen. In the play, she must appear in a bright red dress and long black stockings. Last year in another play, she had to wear short socks and a bright, orange-coloured dress. If anyone ever asked her how old she is, she always answers, My dear, it must be terrible to be grown up!lesson18 He often does this! 他经常干这种事！After I had had lunch at a village inn, I looked for my bag. I had left it on a chair beside the door and now it wasnt there ! As I was looking for it, the inn-keeper came in. Did you have a good meal ? he asked. Yes, thank you, I answered, but I cant pay the bill. I havent got my bag. The inn-keeper smiled and immediately went out. In a few minutes he returned with my bag and gave it back to me. Im very sorry, he said My dog had taken it into the garden. He often does this.Lesson19 Sold out 票已售完The play may begin at any moment, I said. It may have begun already, Susan answered.I hurried to the ticket-office. May I have two tickets please ? I asked.Im sorry, weve sold out, the girl said.What a pity! Susan exclaimed.Just then, a man hurried to the ticket-office.Can I return these two tickets? he asked.Certainly, the girl said.Could I have those two tickets please ? I asked.Certainly, the girl said, but they are for next Wednesdays performance.I might as well have them, I said sadly.Lesson20 One man in a boat 独坐孤舟Fishing is my favourite sport. I often fish for hours without catching anything. But this does not worry me. Some fishermen are unlucky. Instead of catching fish, they catch old boots and rubbish. I am even less lucky. I never catch anything-not even old boots. After having spent whole mornings on the river, I always go home with an empty bag. You must give up fishing! my friends say. Its a waste of time. But they dont realize one important thing. Im not really interested in fishing. I am only interested in sitting in a boat and doing nothing at all !Lesson21 Mad or not? 是不是疯了？Aeroplanes are slowly driving me mad. I live near an airport and passing planes can be heard night and day. The airport was built during the war, but for some reason it could not be used then. Last year, however, it came into use. Over a hundred people must have been driven away from their homes by the noise. I am one of the few people left. Sometimes I think this house will be knocked down by a passing plane. I have been offered a large sum of money to go away, but I am determined to stay here. Everybody says I must be mad and they are probably right.Lesson22 A glass envelope 玻璃信封My daughter, Jane, never dreamed of receiving a letter from a girl of her own age in Holland. Last year, we were travelling across the Channel and Jane put a piece of paper with her name and address on it into a bottle. She threw the bottle into the sea. She never thought of it again, but ten months later, she received a letter from a girl in Holland. Both girls write to each other regularly now. However, they have decided to use the post-office. Letters will cost a litt1e more, but they will certainly travel faster. Lesson23 A new house 新居I had a letter from my sister yesterday. She lives in Nigeria. In her letter, she said that she would come to England next year. If she comes, she will get a surprise. We are now living in a beautiful new house in the country. Work on it had begun before my sister left. The house was completed five months ago. In my letter, I told her that she could stay with us. The house has many large rooms and there is a lovely garden. It is a very modern house, so it looks strange to some people. It must be the only modern house in the district.Lesson24 It could be worse 不幸中之万幸I entered the hotel managers office and sat down. I had just lost &50 and I felt very upset. I left the money in my room, I said, and its not there now. The manager was sympathetic, but he could do nothing. Everyones losing money these days, he said. He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a knock at the door. A girl came in and put an envelope on his desk. It contained &5o. I found this outside this gentlemans room she said. Well, I said to the manager, there is still some honesty in this world !lesson25 Do the English speak English? 英国人讲的是英语吗？I arrived in London at last. The railway station was big, black and dark. I did not know the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke English very carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me; I repeated my question several times and at last he understood. He answered me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. I am a foreigner, I said. Then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and smiled. Then he said something and I understood it. Youll soon learn English! he said. I wonder. In England, each man speaks a different language. The English understand each other, but I dont understand them ! My sister is宁德师范学院服务海西建设重大（点）项目可行性研究报告项目名称： 项目类型： 承担单位： 项目负责人： 合作单位： 宁德师范学院二一年九月项 目 摘 要 据统计，到2010年底，宁德市渔业经济总量达到108.3亿元，水产品产量达63.98万吨，水产品出口量连续居农业各品种“龙头老大”的位置，拥有捕捞机动渔船2.1万多艘，为了更好地保护海洋环境和资源，宁德海洋与渔业局每年都要对多处指定海域实施渔船作业管理。可知，对于以渔业为农业重头戏的宁德市，实施对渔船、渔船安全、海洋资源等信息化管理意义重大。亟待建设和使用成本低、管理方便与快捷的信息管理系统。根据实地调研和项目的需求情况，项目开发的主内容为： 1、根据GPS的定位数据在电子海图上进行渔船定位研究。2、3G通讯环境下的视频、图片等多媒体对象的处理和传输的研究。3、结合人工智能整合已有的GPS差分定位技术。4、控制中心平台的研发。5、3G手机模拟终端的应用程序开发，即在现有3G手机模拟终端环境开发满足上述2、3条内容要求的应用程序、一键报警、信息咨询、信息显示系统模块。6、对宁德沿海及其它相关数据的分析与设计。7、空间数据与属性数据的双向查询功能。需重点解决的科学问题为：1、 如何使用GPS定位技术实现渔船在电子海图上的准确定位，GPS信号偶尔中断时结合人工智能等技术对的渔船定位的处理方法。2、如何在3G无线通讯环境下保证视频和图片的传输质量、可靠性、画面清晰度和传输速度等方面。 项目预期的经济和社会意义重大，具体如下：1、大大降低故障发生率，有力保障生命财产安全。 2、实现对渔船的动态监控，有效管理“禁鱼区”的作业渔船，有利于近海洋或河流资源的保护，从而降低海洋行政管理成本。 3、能加快对事件的发现、处理速度，提高的事件处理效率。 4、为解决海上交通纠纷提供有力的事故现场图片或视频证据。 5、为渔民和政府之间开辟一条新的信息咨询、信息发布的通道，加强它们间互动与联系。6、系统的数据和管理有机结合，采用统一的后台体系，系统提供数据统计、分析功能，能为各类管理机构提供有效的渔业管理数据。7、通过项目可以优化业务流程、降低管理成本，实现对系统更全面、更及时、更有效的监控、分析和利用，使管理者能迅速掌握信息，并对需求的变化做出反应。8、对未来宁德渔业产业优化结构，加快城市化进程，促进一定范围内国民经济相关行业的全面发展，都有一定的积极意义。一、项目建设基础 （一）实施本项目已具备的工作条件1、项目承担单位 本项目由宁德师范学院计算机与信息工程系承担，由李豫颖副教授作为项目的总负责人，林宏康等项目成员担任项目具体的管理、设计与开发任务。近年来，计算机与信息工程系引进一大批青年硕士研究生教师，他们具有扎实的专业理论知识和较强的科研与创新能力，其中大部分都主持或参与过各级科研项目，切身参加过多个具体的项目设计与开发，拥有丰富的项目实际开发经验。申请者多年来从事计算机及数学专业教学工作，担任过系副主任职务，现担任计算机科学系学术指导组组长。在主持课题研究中积累了课题组织及开发经验，在长期的教学和科研中形成了较强的研究能力，具有一定的团队组织管理能力及良好的沟通能力，能认真履行工作职责。曾参加全国教育科学“十五”规划重点课题：教育信息化理论与实践模式（编号AYA010035）之子课题不同层次师范生信息技术能力培养研究。主持安顺学院现代教育技术与基础教育新课程师资培养研究之子课题计算机教育专业毕业生信息技术教学设计能力的培养。独立完成安顺学院课题计算机运用基础课程教学改革探索及实践，并在省级及以上级别发表论文27篇，撰写专著两部。 本项目申报团队大部分成员有着非常丰富的各级项目研究与开发经验；此外，本团队于2009年度已有一项海上台风预警系统与搜救系统研究项目（属省自然基金项目（2009J01294）立项，经过一年半时间的项目调研、技术研究、项目设计与开发，积累了大量的类似项目研究和开发实践经验，这些都为本申请的课题的研究奠定了坚实的理论与开发基础。项目成员中阮群生和张世良对该项目关键技术进行了前期研究，并开发了类似实验产品模型。其中项目成员阮群生老师有着多年的企业一线实践经历，具有丰富的项目设计与开发经验，对项目整体设计与开发有着良好的开发进度和质量控制素养，其读研期间负责开发的实时电子支付与财务结算系统荣获江西南昌科学技术进步三等奖。张世良老师有着较为丰富的GIS地理信息系统和其它应用系统的理论与开发经验，尤其是对地图和定位数据的处理有着较深入的研究，并取得诸多研究成果；成员毛雁明和杨惠玲对图像处理及算法和多媒体技术有较深入的研究，也具有良好的软件开发素质。这些都为本项目重点解决的科学问题：如何使用GPS定位技术实现渔船的海上准确定位，且当GPS信号中断时的处理方法；在3G无线通讯环境下保障视频和图片的传输质量可靠性、画面清晰和传输的速度；紧急情况预警视频的生成研究；遇险情况渔船联动互救机制的研究等奠定了基础。 2工作条件本单位实验条件良好，目前已具备先进的计算机设备和算计机多功能实验室，可以进行前期的模拟实验。并且与宁德市气象局、宁德市海事局、宁德市海洋与渔业局、宁德市边防局、宁德移动公司等部门有良好的合作关系。这些单位可以为我们提供实验数据和实验条件。基本上能满足课题研究的要求和需要。3研究技术人员及协作条件项目组成员的研究方向结构、研发经验、研究能力、年龄结构等形成了一支具有理论研究和项目开发实力的团队，也是一支颇具研发潜力的团队。本项目组成员都参与过项目研究，有的参加过国家级项目研究，还有的主持过省级或校级课题研究，成员中有多位教师具有独立开发系统的经验，发表了计算机专业相关的较高水平的研究论文。宁德移动公司将为本项目的研究和测试提供支持平台。本项目组成员具有共同的项目研发目标，明确的任务分工，并具有团结协作的团队精神，这些都为完成本项目的研发提供了有力保障，项目组成员有能力完成本项目的研发。2、项目合作单位 待写（二）近五年来已承担的地、厅级及以上项目序号项 目 名 称起 止 时 间课 题负责人课 题 来 源（三）本项目已形成的优势与特色1、地域优势与特色海峡西岸经济区，简称“海西”。 海峡西岸经济区是以福建为主体，面对台湾，邻近港澳，范围涵盖台湾海峡西岸。2006年两会期间，支持“海峡西岸”经济发展的字样出现在政府工作报告和“十一五”规划纲要中，海峡西岸将形成规模产业群、港口群、城市群，成为中国经济发展的发达区域。宁德市位于福建省东北部，海域广阔，优良港湾众多，海港优势突出。全市拥有岛屿307个，占全省岛屿总数的21.3%。海洋水域面积44565.8平方公里，占全省海域总面积的
