Procedures Step Lead- in At the beginning of the class, I will design a Free Talk. Do you know the sentence “ Giving is better than receiving” ? Do you know the man?_ Have you heard of Uncle Lei Feng ? He always volunteered his time to help other people. He gave out his money he saved to homeless persons, helped to fix up cars and so on. He set a good example for us. Do you often help others? Now there are many people doing the actions like Lei Feng around us. Please watch a video and answer my question. Who are they?_ .After watching it, I will help them answer the question: T: Who are they? S:Theyre volunteers. They usually volunteer to help others. The purpose of this part is to lead students into the topic” Ill help clean up the city parks”. After that, I ask: Do you want to be a volunteer to solve the problems? Look at these pictures, there are many ways to help people. _ If I have a chance to do,(板书)Ill help clean up the city parks. Step Presentation 1.To master the words and many phrases is one of the difficulties of this lesson. So, first of all, Ill show some pictures . These pictures are all helpful to master the new words . At the same time, I will help students make sentences about offering help : _ By doing, I will present the key words and expressions of this lesson, such as clean up, cheer up, give out and show the important sentences; (1) .We could clean up the parks . (2). We could visit the sick kids in the hospital to cheer them up. (板) (3). They are hungry and homeless. We could help stop hunger. . (4). We hope to give out food at the food bank. (板) (5). We could be volunteers. We could volunteer in an after-school study program to teach kids. (6). We would like to put off planting trees. We could care for the lonely people. (板) (7). We could come up with a plan to help the poor students (8) .We volunteer to make some notices .We could hand them out after school. (板书) (9).We could call up our friends and ask them to put up some signs. (10). We could make friends with the person who used to be short, but now hes tall. After that ,I will have students remember the words and phrases through a memory challenge game. I design these activities to have students memorize the key words in a relaxing environment. Doing this is also to set up a base for the following class._ In order to improve the students talking abilities. Ill say there are many other ways to help people._ Then encourage them to list the ways. At the same time , call one student to write them on the blackboard. Help plant trees by the river. Help clean up the city parks. Visit the old people in the old peoples home. Help young kids to learn English.Step III .Improvement and practice After dealing with the new words ,the students have known enough ways to help others. Its time to practice the students listening skills. 1. Listening practice (1) At first, I tell the students the boy and the girl hope to help others ._ Let them to read the sentences in the chart. Make sure they know the meaning of the sentences. (2) Play the recording for the Ss to listen and number the ways the boy and girl could help others. _ The girl could visit the sick kids in the hospital to cheer them up. _ The boy could give out food at the food bank. _ The girl could volunteer in an after-school study program to teach kids._ The boy could help to clean up the city parks. (Key: 3, 2, 4, 1)2. Pair work (1) First let Ss make up the conversations with the information of the listening._ (2) Use the information in the chart to make other conversations. A: I hope to work outside. B: You could help to clean up the city parks. (3) Let some pairs act out their conversations. 3. Listening practice_ A group of students are planning a City Park Clean-up Day. Listen and check () the things they are going to do to tell people about it. (1). Look at the pictures . Discuss the things they are going to do. (2). Play the recording for the Ss to listen and check the answers. Answers: b, c, e (3). Play the recording again to check the answers. Answers: 1. come up with 2. put off 3. put up 4. hand, out 5. call up 4. Group work In order to make Ss practice enough, I make up a new situation to encourage them to do Teamwork. Ss act the conversation in group for three minutes. then let a reporter act out their results. _ 5. Reading (1). Before read ,show two questions: _ .Wheres Helen going to work this summer? . What could Helen do there? (2).Read the conversations and answer the two questions: Answers: .Shes going to work in an old peoples home. .Read the newspaper or just talk to the old people. (3).
