Lets watch it.T: What happened? Storm also means rainstorm. Do you think a rainstorm is terrible? Why? T: Can you guess what well read? Now read the three main ideas together. T: Whose idea is right? We are not sure. Maybe after we finish reading this passage, we can know better. Level 2: Fast Reading 1. T: Here is the level two. Read the title together. What can you see in the picture? Can you see some fallen trees? T: No, but we can see some fallen houses, broken windows and rubbish. Can you guess what happened? T: Yes, maybe there was a rainstorm.Reading Strategy: Reading the Title and Pictures. The title can be helpful for you to understand a text. It is also a good idea to read the pictures before you read the whole text.2. T: Look through the passage, then find the answers: Whats the main idea of the passage(which sentence do you think is the most important)? T: Which sentence?T: Can you also find it? Yes, the last sentence in Paragraph 4? Now read it together loudly!T: Why do you think this is the main idea of the passage? Maybe you can see “closer together” from the title? 3. And who are they?Level 3: Detailed ReadingT: Now lets get to the third level. Detailed reading means reading more carefully. 1. T: Scan Para 1. And then fill in the chart. Whats the weather like before the heavy rain started? T: Are you ready? One minute. If you have any trouble, you can discuss with your partner. T: Times up. The sky was dark. The winds were strong. The clouds were thick. There was no light. T: Good job. So it felt like midnight. 2. T: Lets scan Para 2. Before the rain, what were people doing? Just one minute. T: Who knows the answer? OK, the boy, have a try. Now lets read the sentences together. T: Why were they doing these? Yes, because the rainstorm was coming. T: And from this, we can say “Everyone was busy”. Can you find the sentence in your book? Yes, at the beginning of Para 2. Its very important. Reading Strategy: Usually the topic sentences appear at the beginning of the passage. The topic sentences can often tell us what the passage is about.3. T: How about Ben? Do you want to know what Ben was doing when the rain began to beat heavily against the windows? Do you know the meaning of the phrase “beat heavily against the windows”? T: Lets look at the picture. It shows that the rain beats heavily against the ground. T: Just one minute. Who has found the answer? T: Is he right? Yes, very good. Sit down, please. Ben was helping his mom make dinner. Do you think Ben was a good boy? T: Do you often help your mom make dinner? What other chores do you often help your mom? T: I think youre also good guys.4. T: After the rain, what happened? Do you want to know?T: Please listen to the tape of Para 4 carefully and then finish the task. T: Now, its your turn. Are these sentences true or false? Lets have an answer race!T: Why? Do you think dying down means stronger and stronger? No, it means weaker and weaker. T: So the sun was rising. There must be enough light. T: Answer this one together. I think you did very well. 5. T: Pay attention: Here is a difficult phrase. “In a mess”, do you know what it means? “A. Clean and tidy” or “B. Not clean or tidy at all.” T: How do you know that? These two groups retell the first part “Before the storm.” You two groups just retell “During the storm”. The rest retell “After the storm”. Discuss with your partners. And later you have to two ways to show your ideas. One, you can choose your group leaders to retell the part. And I would like you to retell the part with each group member. It means in your group, all your group members can show your ideas. OK? Do it!T: Are you ready? Lets show your ideas.T: Yes, well done. From retelling the story, we learnt that “Although the storm broke many things apart, but it brought families and neighbors closer together. ” Because we can help each other.
