It is period 1 of Unit 6.It includes 2 parts: In part1, it mainly deals with some new words: newspaper, read a newspaper, use, soup, make soup, wash .In part2, it mainly deals with the sentence structure:-What are you/ they doing? -Im /They are.-What he/ she doing? -He/ She isAnd it tells the students how to ask what people are doing. l Background Information: 1. Duration:45 minutes2. Students Analysis:1) Our students are in Grade 72) They are active, curious, and interested in new things. And they have learned the special questions that are guided by what before. Besides, the topic of this unit is closely related to students daily life. so the teacher should attach importance to the communication with them.l Teaching Aims:1. Knowledge Aims:By the end of the lesson students will be able to1) Master some new words: newspaper, read a newspaper, use, soup, make soup, wash .2) Use the sentence structure: -What are you/ they doing? -Im /They are.-What he/ she doing? -He/ She is2. Ability AimsBy the end of the lesson students will be able to1) Use the present progressive tense to talk about what people are doing.2) Develop students listening and speaking skills.3. Emotional AimsBy the end of the lesson students will be able to1) Care about each other.2) Improve the interest of learning English.l Teaching Key Points1)Master the new words: newspaper, read a newspaper, use, soup, make soup, wash .2)Use the sentence structure correctly.l Teaching Difficult Point Develop students listening and speaking skills. l Teaching MethodsTask-based teaching method, TPR teaching method, Group work, Pair work l Teaching AidsMulti-media and other normal teaching toolsl Teaching ProceduresStep1 Warming-up and lead in(About 5 minutes)(Purpose : to arouse students interest to lead to the content of this unit)1) Daily greeting. T: Good morning, class! How are you today?Ss: T: Today well learn a new unit. In this unit, well meet a new tense. Now lets look at the objects and requirements in this class.2) Guessing game: present some pictures and ask students to guess he/she is T: Here I are some pictures. Now I will present them one by one, and then all of you try to guess their actions. Ss: T: You all did very good jobs. Thanks!Step2 Presentation (About 20 minutes)(Purpose: to teach some new wordsto help students learn the sentence structureto improve students listening skill) 1) Teach some new words through pictures: newspaper, read a newspaper, use, soup, make soup, wash .T: Next we will learn more words about actions.2) Activity 1a:T: Please open your book and turn to page 31. Look at these pictures in 1a. Set an example and then give students three minutes to do it. Then check the answers together. Then lead students to read these phrases. Finally ask students to close the book and check their memory through pictures.3) Activity 1b:T: Please look at me . Im teaching English, and you are learning English. So when we want to know what people are doing, we can say: “What are you doing”? And the answer is: “Im”Then lead students to say it through different pictures.T: Ok, Now please look at activity 1b and well listen to the tape to find out what Jenny, John , Dave and Mary are doing. You can write the numbers from 1a.Later check the answers by inviting students to answer the questions. And ask students to look at the typescripts and role-play the conversation.Step3 Practice(About 10 minutes)(Purpose: to improve students speaking skill) 1) Activity1c: (Pair work) Ask and answer questions about what people are doing in 1a. T: When we want to ask what he or she is doing, we can just change “you” into he/ she”, but you should pay attention to the agreement of the subject and the predicate. So now its your turn to make conversations with your partner. And you can use the sentence structure on the blackboard.As they work, move around the room and offer help as needed. Then invite some pairs to act out their conversations to the whole class.2) Activity2: (Group work) Imagine its on Friday evening. What are people doing in your family ? T: Imagine its on Friday evening. What are people doing in your family? Then talk about it with your group members. You can use the sentence structure “My father is My mother is ” Later I will invite the group members to make a report.Step4 Consolidation(About 5 minutes)(Purpose: to consolidate the target language)T: Earlier I took a photo of our class, now please look at this photo, what are you doing? What are your classmates doing? Please write these sentences after the given words to make it a complete composition. Then Ill choose one work to read.Give students several minutes to write. As they work, move around the room and offer help as needed. Finally choose one work to read. Step5 Summery (About 2 minutes)(Purpose: to summarize the knowledge learned in this period )In this period, we have learned some new words and sentence structure.
