class as usual.Step RevisionT:In the last period,we learnt some words and phrases.Now lets have a dictation.Please take out a piece of paper and write them down on it.(Teacher checks them and corrects their mistakes.)Step Word StudyT:Now well do an exercise to review the usages of some words.Open your books at Page 59.Look at Word Study.A short passage is given.First read it,and then fill in the blanks with the words given.You may have to change the form if necessary.Do it as quickly as possible.Ill ask you to give the answers later.(After a while,teacher checks the students answers and then do Exercise 2.In the box there are such phrases as“in+n.+of”.They are often used as the Adverbial or the Predicative.Do you remember their meanings?Ss:Yes.(Teacher asks some students to tell the class their meanings one by one.)T:You are right.“In need of” and “in want of” have the same meaning.So have “in honour of” and “in memory of”.Please complete the following sentences with the given phrases.Each phrase can be used once.At the same time,put the sentences into Chinese.Suggested answers:1.in honor of举办那场音乐会是为了纪念伟大的作曲家莫扎特。2.in need of一个医疗队急忙赶往出事地点,那儿的医院急需护士和医生。3.in memory of默哀两分钟来纪念在战争中死去的人。4.in charge of钟南山是一位勇敢而富有责任心的医生,他负责广东省的抗击SARS的战役。5.in praise of在会议上,校长表扬了汤姆,他救了那个溺水的女孩。6.in face of在危险面前,不要丧失信心是很重要的。7.in search of玛蒂尔德和她丈夫为了找到那条丢失的项链,把整个房间都翻遍了。8.in hope protected.T:Look at the screen.Pay attention to the underlined parts.What sentence elements are they in each sentence?Ss:They are all Adverbials.T:Yes.What part of speech can be used as the Adverbial?Lets sum up.Volunteer!S1:From the sentences on the screen,we can know adverb,preposition phrases,the infinitive,the present participle and the past participle can be used as the Adverbial.T:Do you have any other opinions?S2:I think a sentence can also be used as the Adverbial.Its called the Adverbial clause.T:Quite right.Now do Exercise 1 on Page 60.Seven sentences are given.Please underline the Adverbial in each of them and tell what part of speech is used as the Adverbial.Meanwhile,translate each one into Chinese.(A few minutes later,teacher checks the students Claus words,Scrooge work up.(the Past Participle)斯克罗奇被圣诞老人的话吓醒了。7.Make it short,because its time to close up.(the Adverbial Clause)简短些说,到关门时间了。T:In the seventh sentence,there is an Adverbial Clause for reason which is introduced by“because”.And “as” “since”can also be used to introduce a clause.Pay attention to the differences between them.e.g.I did it because he told me to.Just because I dont complain,people think Im satisfied.As you werent there,I left a message.Since weve no money,we cant buy a new car.But:We listened eagerly,for he brought news of our families.“For”cant be used at the beginning of a sentence.Are you clear about them?(Teacher writes the sentences on the blackboard.)Step ConsolidationT:Weve reviewed the Adverbial.Now well do another exercise to consolidate it.Look at Exercise 2 on Page 60 in Grammar Practice.Some phrases are given.You must put them into the blanks to complete the passage.First go through the passage to understand its general idea and then finish drives not to travel by road.Step Summary and HomeworkT:In this period,weve reviewed some words and phrases,and learnt some new phrases.Meanwhile,Weve reviewed the Adverbial and the Adverbial Clause for reason.After class,remember the phrases learnt today and do the exercise on the screen to test the Adverbial.(Show the homework on the screen.)Translate the Chinese parts into English to complete
