When we cook foods , we destroy the natural enzymes(酶)that are part of the food in its raw form. These enzymes were intended by nature to help us digest the food . When we consume food without these natural enzymes, our bodies either digest the food improperly or allow too many nutrients to be absorbed into the bloodstream. In both cases, the result is obesity . When too many nutrients are absorbed at once, the body grows fat.Processed foods contain chemical elements, which might confuse the appetite system that tells us when weve had enough to eat ; as a result, people often overeat. Processed foods also upset the digestive cycle. The body will either identify these foods as allergens and then store them safely away from the organs as fat, or the remains of undigested food will become acidic and enter the bloodstream as acid waste, which will stick to the blood vessel walls(血管壁)and block the passage of vital oxygen and nutrients heading for the bodys cells . The bodys metabolism(新陈代谢)becomes inactive , and the result is weight gain and obesity. To stop this vicious circle in its tracks, people need to consume food and supplements that will balance the acid already accumulated in body . Eating the right types of raw and whole foods can help. Its also important to restore our enzyme balance. We need to identify and avoid the foods that cause acid accumulation and consume the foods that increase enzyme production . If we truly want to change and help our body heal itself, we need to take an active approach.24. We can learn from the 2nd paragraph that _. A. it is essential for us to digest some fat B. cooked and processed foods are healthier C. foods with natural enzymes help us keep fit D. absorbing many nutrients is beneficial to our health25. Processed foods will probably _. A. stop bodys metabolismB. be difficult to digest C. destroy bodys cells D. lead to obesity26. The underlined word “ vicious ” in the last paragraph probably means _. A. harmfulB. violentC. progressiveD. positive27. To change and help our body heal itself, we need to _ . A. consume enough acid foods B. identify enzyme production C. avoid restoring our enzyme balance D. eat the right types of raw and whole foodsCCan dogs and cats live in perfect harmony in the same home? People who are thinking about adopting a dog as a friend for their cats are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found a new recipe of success. According to the study, if the cat is adopted before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly probable that the two pets will get along swimmingly. Two-thirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog. However, it wasnt all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression and fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals were just opposite. For example, when a cat turns its head away it signals aggression, while a dog doing the same signals submission (屈服、投降).In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers observed a surprising behavior. They are learning how to talk each others language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk dog, and dogs can learn how to talk cat.Whats interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence. They can learn how to read each others body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than we previously suspected. Once familiar with each others presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together, greet each other nose to nose, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. They can easily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom (梳理) each other. The significance of the research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets-to people who dont get along, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even world superpowers. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.28. What is the passage mainly about? A. How cats and dogs develop their intelligence. B. Whether cats and dogs can live in harmony. C. What cats and dogs have in common. D. Why cats and dogs can understand each other. 29. Some cats and dogs may fight when _. A. they are cold to each otherB. they look away from each other C. they are introduced at an early age D. they misunderstood each others signals30. It is suggested in Para.4 that cats and dogs _. A. have common interestsB. have a common body language C. are less different than we thoughtD. are less intelligent than we expected31. What can we human beings learn from cats and dogs? A. We should learn to live in harmony. B. We should know more about animals. C. We should live in peace with animals. D. We should learn more body languages.DIn ancient Egypt, the pharaoh(法老) treated the message runner like a prince when he arrived at the palace, if he brought good news. However, if the exhausted runner had the misfortune to bring the pharaoh unhappy news, his head was cut off.Shades of that spirit spread over todays conversations. Once a friend and I packed up some peanut butter and sandwiches for an outing. As we walked light-heartedly out of the door, picnic basket in hand, a smiling neighbor looked up at the sky and said, “Oh boy, bad day for a picnic. The weatherman says its going to rain.” I wanted to strike him on the face with the peanut butter and sandwiches. Not for his stupid weather report, but for his smile.Several months ago I was racing to catch a bus. As I breathlessly put my handful of cash across the Greyhound counter, the sales agent said with a broad smile, “Oh, that bus left five minutes ago.” Dreams of head cutting! Its not the news that makes someone angry. Its the unsympathetic attitude with which its delivered(传送). Everyone must give bad news from time to time, and winning professionals do it with the proper attitude. A doctor advising a patient that she needs an operation does it in a caring way. A boss informing an employee he didnt get the job takes on a sympathetic tone. Big winners know, when delivering any bad news, they should share the feeling of the receiver.Unfortunately, many people are not aware of this. When youre tired from a long flight, has a hotel clerk cheerfully said that your room isnt ready yet? When you had your heart set on the toast beef, has your waiter merrily told you that he just served the last piece? It makes you as a traveler or diner want to land your fist right on their unsympathetic faces.Had my neighbor told me of the upcoming rainstorm with sympathy, I would have appreciated his warning. Had the Greyhound salesclerk sympathetically informed me that my bus had already left, I probably would have said, “Oh, thats all right. Ill catch the next one.” Big winners, when they bear bad news, deliver bombs with the emotion the bombarded(被轰炸的)person is sure to have.32. In Paragraph 1, the writer tells the story of the pharaoh to_.A. make a comparisonB. describe a sceneC. introduce a topic D. offer an argument 33. In the writers opinion, his neighbor was_.A. not helpful B. not considerate C. friendly D. warm-hearted34. From “Dreams of head-cutting!” (Paragraph 3), we learn that the writer_.A. was reminded of the cruel pharaohB. was mad at the sales agent C. wished that the sales agent would have bad dreamsD. dreamed of cutting the sales agents head that night35. Youve probably heard people say, “Wow, Im really stressed out.” 36 But children have lots of things going on in their lives that can cause stress, too. What is stress?Stress is what you feel when you are worried or uncomfortable about something. This worry in your mind can make your body feel bad. Have you ever gotten butterflies in your stomach or sweaty hands? Those can be signs of good stress. 38 For example, you may do a better job on your book report if the anxiety inspires you to prepare well before you get up and read it to the class. But bad stress can happen if the stressful feelings keep going over time.
