Comment on The Little Prince Opening the cover of any new book comes with a feeling of great anticipation however the thought of seeing Saint Exup ry accelerated that feeling into one of almost surreal joy Fortunately I wasn t disappointed I especially am grateful that the story is completely unabridged leaving the words and the feelings nature and pure Actually my mom bought me this book when I was about 13 years old I liked the pictures and the story captured my imagination It seemed special indeed And I read it again when I was about 20 Again the depth of this little book surprised me and touched my soul like no other This little book is certainly one of the best known and most popular works in French literature Antoine de Saint Exup ry the fabulous French writer as well as the pilot devoted himself into pursuing freedom and adventures Hence in this book the idea of them was depicted vividly Believing that the sky has its own beauty Exup ry the author was fond of flying and managed to turn his feelings into the fantastic words The story can basically be separated into two parts The first part is the short introduction concerning the narrator and his view of the world when he was a child and how adults could never understand the real meaning of things or perceive truth in the world This is generally one of the main ideas of the book blessed are the children The rest of the book is the story of the little prince who was discovered by the narrator in the Sahara when he is trying to fix his downed airplane and is in fear of his life The narrator and the reader slowly come to know the prince s story and learn about friendship love and truth in a touching way What impressed me most is the simple but pure cast of mind which the little prince embraces How pure How unsophisticated It brings tears to my eyes sometimes when I read it Each planet may be a thinly disguised life lesson But more importantly the prince s experiences are touching and at times heart rending This is however not a children s book The work is in fact far too tragic for younger children even if they don t grasp all of the imagery that is presented in the story The ending is simply too difficult to try to explain to small children As a matter of fact the book is dedicated to a grown up a man who can see the world of children a man who experienced gloomy famine when children Since all individuals the writer conceives were once children Yet we completely obliterate memories of being a child when we grow up Thus only when we return to our nature and root self can the book be truly understood The book is so accessible so exquisitely written The story is so compelling and honest that any reader can intepret it in a personal way The story of The Little Prince can be read at many different levels of meaning Every time you read the book a different scene will come out from it The fox the rose the tippler the prince each character is fantastically vivid In fact the wider your mind and
