C 和 D 中 选出最佳选项 A People are divided into those who can jump out of bed each morning and those who need several hours to wake up I have hated getting up early all my life The moment the alarm goes off in the morning I feel sick Nights though are different I ll happily stay up and I ll do anything to escape an early start This makes me an owl 猫头鹰 but I know many larks 云雀 who insist that dawn is the best part of the day While I go to work sleepy they have been up for hours and even seem cheerful about it But it is wrong to say that society is exactly divided into larks and owls Surveys that explore what time of day people prefer to do activities show that only 20 of adults are true larks or owls That leaves 80 of us half of which lean towards one direction or the other the other half are neither Schools and work often start very early and there s a sense of love for getting up early while the owls are simply slovenly But no one suggests that the larks are lazy for having an early night while owls are working Fortunately science is on my side I m not sleeping my life away or missing the best part of the day I m behaving according to my genes 基因 Researchers have found that one s chronotype 睡 眠类型 is largely genetic So it seems that when I try to get up early I am fighting my genetics With the help of an alarm clock I can force myself to get up early But as soon as I fail to set the alarm my genes will return me to my old days 1 According to the text owls refer to people who A go to bed early and get up early B go to bed early and get up late C go to bed late and get up replaced by A bored B lazy C tired D stupid 2 12 B The Internet plays a big part in human life We use it for work and entertainment We can find new recipes on the Internet or advice on staying healthy We can even use it to learn a new language We use the Internet to connect with family and friends and stay in touch with issues we care about The list goes on and on So there may be no going back to an Internet free life But can using the Internet too much be bad for our health It might be say researchers A new study finds that heavy Internet use may be connected to high blood pressure in an unlikely group teenagers So try to be a responsible guardian 监护人 The study results show that teens who spend at least 14 hours a week online are more likely to have high blood pressure High blood pressure makes your heart and blood vessels work too hard Over time this extra strain increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke High blood pressure can also cause heart and kidney disease 肾病 It For the purpose of the study she explains teens considered heavy Internet users were online on average 25 hours a week Ms Cassidy Bushrow adds that it is important for teens to take regular breaks from their computers or smartphones 智能手机 and to do some kind of physical activity She also suggests that parents limit their children s use of the smartphones or Internet to half an hour a day five days a week The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDCP says 70 million or 29 of American adults have high blood pressure The CDCP estimates that high blood pressure costs the United States 46 billion each year 4 The author mainly wants to tell us A how to prevent high blood pressure B too much Internet use may be bad for teenagers C it s unnecessary for teenagers to avoid the Internet 3 12 D heavy Internet use will worsen teenagers memory 5 The first paragraph of the text is used to A introduce the topic B analyze the causes C offer some opinions D make some suggestions 6 According to Cassidy Bushrow teenagers use of the Internet should be limited to A one hour a week B two hours a week C two and a half hours a week D three hours a week 7 The text is mainly intended for A students B teachers C web designers D parents C We all know what a brain is A doctor will tell you that the brain is the organ of the body in the head It controls our body s functions movements sensations emotions and thoughts But a brain can mean much more A brain can also simply be a smart person If a person is called brainy she is smart or intelligent If a family has many children but one of them is super smart or creative you could say She s the brains in the family And if you are the brains behind something you are responsible for developing or organizing something For example Bill Gates is the brains behind Microsoft A brain trust is a group of experts who give advice Word experts say the phrase brain trust became popular when Franklin D Roosevelt first ran for president in 1932 Several professors gave him advice on social and political issues facing the U S These professors were called his brain trust Other ways we use the word are not so easy to understand For example to tease is to make fun of someone But a brainteaser is not one who makes fun of someone else s brain A brainteaser is a riddle or puzzle that makes you think Here is a fun brainteaser What can go all around the world but still stays in one corner The answer a stamp A brainchild sounds like a really smart kid But it isn t A brainchild is an idea that one has without any help from others If you have a really great idea it is your brainchild no one else s Brainstorm is not an act of weather It is a process of thinking creatively about a complex topic For example business leaders may use brainstorming to create new products and government leaders may brainstorm to solve problems But if you can t find a solution to a problem you may have to rack your brains It means to think very hard about something To pick someone s brain is quite 4 12 different For example if you meet someone who knows a lot about a subject you like you may want to pick his brain to learn more But do not mix these expressions up You cannot rack someone else s brain or pick your own 8 What can we learn from the second paragraph A The word brainy means smart or intelligent B Franklin D Roosevelt first used the phrase brain trust C Bill Gates got some help from several professors in 1932 D Word experts gave Roosevelt advice on running for president 9 Tom the most creative student in his group can be described as A the brains behind something B a brain trust C the brains in his group D a brainchild 10 The text is mainly developed by A analyzing causes B giving examples C listing differences D making comparisons 11 The author writes the last paragraph to A suggest readers use the brain phrases properly B advise readers to pay attention to other words C introduce some negative meanings of brain phrases D remind readers of some more brain phrases D The months are familiar to everyone Nearly any small child can rattle off the twelve months of the year But how and why did the names come into being Every month s name tells a story January is named after Janus a Roman god described as having two faces one looking forward and one looking back As the god of doors he had to watch out for friends and enemies coming from either direction February is a form of februare which was a Roman festival On that day people begged the gods for healthy children and enough crops in the next year March is named after Mars whom many people have read about as the god of wars Few people realize that at first Mars was the god of springtime Fighters would take the winter off from fighting resting while the weather was too bad for the battle In the spring around what we now 5 12 think of as March battles would start again From this time line Mars soon became more well known as the god of wars than of springtime April is a mystery Experts argue a lot about the origin of it May is also named after a goddess Maika She was the goddess of plants because plants often begin to have flowers in May Not every month kept the same name over the years The first name for July was Quintilis the fifth month August was at first called Sextilis the sixth month Likewise September October November and December were the seventh eighth ninth and tenth months How did July and August get their new names July was named after Julius Caesar the first emperor of Rome after he was killed in 66 BC August was named after Augustus Caesar Julius Caesar s nephew 12 The underlined phrase rattle off in Paragraph 1 probably means A shake until something drops off B say something quickly from memory C get rid of D feel unhappy 13 The writer s main purpose in writing the passage is to A explain how the months got their names B show why there are twelve months and not just ten months C show how important human activities are in deciding the names of the months D suggest the new names for the twelve months 14 According to the passage Janus needed both of his faces because A he was the caretaker of fighters in the battle B he was the god of the beginning of the year C he had to look in both directions as the god of doors D he had more days in his month than in the other months 15 According to the passage which of the following months is named after a festival A February B March C April D May 第二节 共 5 小题 每小题 2 分 满分 10 分 根据短文内容 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项 选项中有两项为多余选项 Many people think that they have to accept
