A Joanne was stuck in a traffic jam in central Birmingham at 5 30 and at 6 30 she was expected to be chairing a meeting of the tennis club At last the traffic was moving She swung quickly racing to seemed to be coughing or choking Obviously she could hardly breathe Immediately Joanne realized she would have to take her to the vet 兽医 When she got there the vet was just about to close for the day Seeing the state of Sheba Dr Sterne brought her quickly into his office Listen doctor I m really in a rush to get to a meeting Can I leave her with you and go and get changed I ll be back in ten again A to dress up for the meeting B to phone the police station C to catch the badly hurt burglar D to wait for her dog to be cured 57 From the passage we can infer that A Sheba fought against the burglar B the police found the burglar had broken in C Joanne had planned to take her dog to the meeting D the doctor performed a difficult operation on the dog 58 In this passage the writer intends to tell us that the dog is A clever B friendly C frightening D devoted B B ChineseChinese girlgirl lookinglooking forfor languagelanguage exchangerexchanger Posted Feb 10 2010 16 25 by Sophia Tag Chinese and make friends he she can call ABCD60 To share a department where the traffic is quite convenient you may send text message to A Sophia B Vivian C Lucy D Sony 61 What do the four advisers have in common A All of them speak both Chinese and English B All of them are in their twenties C All of them are Guangzhou citizens D All of them are hotmail users 62 The information above can be probably found A in a magazine B in a newspaper C at a website D in a guidebook C C Dear Editor Brockingham is run by people who are more interested in tourists than its residents The problem is that the people running the government refuse to accept new ideas By banning 禁止 all fast food restaurants and discount stores they take away all the places kids can afford to shop These people forget that when they were young they could go to the South Street Soda Fountain and get an ice cream soda for 25 cents Today you can t find an ice cream soda anywhere in Brockingham for less than 2 Where can kids go for a snack There is not a single restaurant in Brockingham where a family of four can eat dinner for less than 100 Add a 15 tip and sales tax and you have spent nearly 125 to eat a meal you could prepare at home for about 12 Have you noticed that Brockingham families never dine in Brockingham Fast food restaurants are also a good place for school kids to get an after school job Fast food restaurants are busiest during the early supper hours when 用心 爱心 专心 6 students are able to work whereas the fancy food restaurants cater to late night diners Working in one of these establishments requires working shifts that are too late for most students The City Council claims that local businessmen rather than national chains should benefit from the tourist business I agree that it is important to support local businesses but I think the fast food restaurants would encourage more people to shop in Brockingham Another thing that disturbs me is that we must travel 25 miles to the nearest discount store If I need a tire for my bike I have a choice of buying one at Surf and Peddle Sport Shop for 15 or driving to Parkersburg Discount Center where I can buy the same kind of tire for 9 Again I think the ban on all food chains and discount houses is counterproductive for our city Wes Woodrow 9th Grade Student at Brockingham High School 63 Why does Wes Woodrow write this letter to the editor A Because the government bans all fast food restaurants and discount stores in Brockingham B Because the writer can t find an ice cream soda anywhere in Brockingham for less than 2 C Because a family of four can t find a restaurant in Brockingham to eat dinner for less than 100 D Because the writer has to travel 25 miles to the nearest discount store 64 From the letter we can infer that A the writer used to buy a lot of ice cream soda B the students refuse to work in fancy food restaurants C the government s ban benefits local businessmen much D discount stores usually offer a discount of 40 65 The underlined word counterproductive in paragraph 6 of the letter probably means A cheap not expensiveB surprising not expected C harmful not helpful D doubtful not sure 66 One way the writer of this letter tries to convince the reader is by A complaining that someone has to drive him to Parkersburg B getting an after school job in fast food restaurant himself C suggesting that many businessmen have the same opinion D giving specific examples of the high costs in Brockingham D D Is technology making us unhealthy Are computers affecting our health Many people think high tech products have affected us because we spend more time playing on computers watching TV and using our mobile phones to talk text and play games Our bodies Levels of obesity are rising especially young children But this isn t just a problem about what we eat Many people especially teenagers 用心 爱心 专心 7 like sitting in front of TV sets or computers for hours just watching or playing games As a result they do less exercise Our brains Research into the effects on the human brain while playing computer games is ongoing Recent studies have looked at the impact on beta brainwave activity which is important for emotional development planning and self control Though we haven t evidence to show how it affects us researchers think that tiredness may affect the levels of beta brainwave activity and sitting in front of a TV set or computer for a long time easily causes one to feel tired So parents who don t want to spoil their children s fun should control the time they spend on the computer Communication As leading computer game consumers are we spending too much time in front of computers Does it mean that we spend less time communicating with other people What effect does this have on our lives It certainly seems that children today are spending more time indoors than their parents did when they were young Children used to play in the streets or in parks regularly Today empty parks clearly show how play time has changed because of advances in affordable technology like home computers 67 According to the passage which of the following is TRUE A We can only use computers to play games instead of doing other things B Teenagers today take less exercise than their parents when they were young C Research has shown how playing computers games affects our brains D Parents should keep their children away from computers for their health 68 The writer uses the example of empty parks to show A the parks today are not so attractive for people as before B home computers have taken the place of parks C technology has affected the children s play time D children today spend more time in the streets instead of in parks 69 We can infer from the passage that A obesity has nothing to do with what we eat B parents mustn t allow their children to play computer games for their health C we should keep away from computers to keep healthy D parents should limit the time their children spend on computers 70 This passage mainly talks about A why some teenagers become very fat B technology is harmful to young people C the effects of technology on young people D parents should encourage children to do more exercise 第二节第二节 根据短文内容 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项 选项中有两项为多余选项 根据短文内容 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项 选项中有两项为多余选项 71 Being angry doesn t really solve much but what people do when they feel angry is important The goal is to calm down and try to solve what is 用心 爱心 专心 8 bothering you This is hard for some kids and adults too Instead of calming down some kids might keep getting more and more upset until they explode like a volcano 72 Their anger might be so strong that they lose control of their temper They may act in ways unacceptable and hurtful People may say that someone has trouble controlling their temper 73 Some kids might get so angry that they scream at their parents break something or even worse hit their brothers or sisters 74 However it s not OK for a kid to do any of those things Kids don t want to act in this way but sometimes angry feelings can be hard to manage So what to do Well the good news is that kids don t just have to keep making the same mistakes over and over again 75 Imagine your temper as a puppy inside you that needs some training The puppy is not bad it will probably turn out a great dog It just needs to learn some rules because right now that puppy is causing some problems to you A You can train you temper B You don t want to cause trouble C Kids should be allowed to express their feelings even angry ones D Everybody gets angry sometimes E In fact they usually mean that a kid behaves badly when feeling angry F Instead of thinking of the person you re angry with think of something else G Some kids get angry more often or more easily than some other kids
