an explanation.)T:Here“but” is a preposition.It means“except”.“have no choice but to do sth.”is a useful sentence pattern,meaing“别无选择,只有做某事”in Chinese.For example,The boy had no choice but to watch TV at home.(Teacher writes the example on the blackboard.)Is that clear?Ss:Yes.T:Can you give us another example?S3:Ill try.I had no choice but to do it as I was told.T:Very good.Any question?Ss:No.T:OK.Now,please look at the screen.There are some phrases for you to learn and master.Try to guess their Chinese meanings.(Teacher shows the following on the screen.)come to an endcome “结束,完毕”.Can you guess other phrases meanings?Ss:Yes.T:OK.One student,one phrase.Whod like to be the first?S4:“Come to a decision” means “decide”.Its Chinese meaning is “决定”.S5:“Come to an agreement” means “reach an agreement”.It is“达成协议,商定”in Chinese.S6:“Come to a complete stop”means“completely stop”.Its meaning is “完全停止”in Chinese.S7:“Come to a conclusion”means “conclude”.“作结论”is its Chinese meaning.S8:“Come to a better understanding”means“better understand”.Its Chinese meaning is “更好地理解”.T:Good job!Well,youve understood the phrases meanings.Lets do an exercise to practise using them correctly.Look at Ex.3 at Page 51.Choose the proper phrases to complete the sentences and translate them into Chinese.Pay attention to their forms.Ill give you three minutes to do it.After you finish them,check your answers with your partners.At the end,Ill ask some students to say the answers.Is everything clear?Ss:Yes.(Three minutes later,teacher checks their answers.)Suggested answers:1.had is“green”;“promised” is used to modify“land”.S15:The Attribute modifying“son”is“four-year-old”.S16:“Who saw us”is used as the Attribute,modifying “farmers”;“walking”here modifys “skeletons”.T:You all did good jobs.From the sentences on the screen,we can draw a conclusion that adjectives,pronouns,adverbs,to do,v.-ing,v.-ed,attributive clauses,complex adjectives,such as num.+n.+adj. are used as the Attribute.(Teacher writes them on the blackboard.)T:Can you tell the difference between “v.-ing”and“v.-ed”when they are used as the Attribute?S17:The v.-ing form used as the Attribute expresses an active meaning or purposes and uses while the past participle expresses a passive meaning and a finished action.T:Well done.Can you give us some examples?S17:Yes.For example,the rising sun,a walking stick,a sleeping car,a destroyed city,fallen leaves.T:Terrific!Thank you.Sit down,please.Besides,we should remember that “to do”used as the Attribute is often placed after the noun or pronoun it
