to read Aren t you just tired of being told what to do with your time Now you have a list to end all lists Take a look at the following two examples from the list of 101 things not to do SwimSwim withwith DolphinsDolphins 海豚 Swimming with dolphins is one of the world s most profitable tourist activities However not every dolphin will welcome having their busy tiring day interrupted by tourists screaming and pushing around them in the water Worse yet when dolphins get too near to the boats loaded with tourists they could get caught up in ropes and killed by propellers 螺旋桨 Here s a little secret Dolphins look like smiling at you but actually they re just opening their mouths GoGo toto SeeSee thethe MonaMona Lisa Lisa There must be something about the mysterious 神秘的 smile The 6 million people who visit the lady in the Louvre every year can t all be wrong after all But they can be quite annoying standing in front of you holding up their cameras to prevent you from seeing anything In fact it is hard for you to see the painting clearly because you have to stay away from it for security reasons After queuing for hours many tourists can remain in front of the painting only for 15 seconds at most If the mysterious lady in the picture knew her fate she wouldn t just be smiling she d be laughing So still long to see the Mona Lisa If you want to find out more about the list read mysterious smile B It is not as satisfying as expected C Fifteen seconds in front of the painting is enough D Queuing for hours is worthwhile 58 The list of 101 things not to do is made most probably because its author A thinks it boring to do the things suggested by other lists B believes other lists are not humorous enough C intends to persuade people to read more lists D wants to provide a list different from other lists 59 What is the main purpose of the passage 用心 爱心 专心5 A To advertise a book B To introduce a website C To comment on popular lists D To recommend tourist activities 2012 浙江卷 B Easter 复活节 is still a great day for worship candy in baskets and running around the yard finding eggs but every year it gets quite a bit worse for bunnies And no not because the kids like to pull their ears The culprit is climate change and some researchers found that rising temperatures are having harmful effects on at least five species of rabbit in the US Take the Lower Keys Marsh rabbit for instance An endangered species that lives in the Lower Florida Keys this species of cottontail is a great swimmer it lives on the islands but it is already severely affected by development and now by rising sea levels According to the Center for Biological Diversity an ocean level rise of only 0 6 meters will send these ys jumping to higher ground and a 0 9 meter rise would wipe out their habitat 栖息地 completely The snowshoe hare on the other hand has a color issue Most of these rabbits change their fur color from white in the wintertime to brown in the summer each designed to give them better cover from predators 捕食者 As the number of days with snow decreases all across the country however more and more bunnies are being left in white fur during brown dirt days of both fall and spring making them an easier mark for predators Researchers know that the color change is controlled by the number of hours of sunlight but whether the rabbit will be able to adapt quick enough to survive is a big question The National Wildlife Federation has reported that hunters have noticed their numbers are already markedly down American pikas or rock rabbits a relative of rabbits and hares might be the first of these species to go extinct due to climate change About 7 8 用心 爱心 专心6 inches long pikas live high in the cool damp mountains west of the Rocky Mountains As global temperatures rise they would naturally migrate 迁移 to higher ground but they already occupy the mountaintops They can t go any higher The National Wildlife Federation reports that they might not be able to stand the new temperatures as their habitat heats up The volcano rabbit has the same problem These rabbits live on the slopes of volcanoes in Mexico and recent studies have shown that the lower range of their habitat has already shifted upward about 700 meters but there are not suitable plants for them to move higher so they are stuck in the middle Scientists are concerned about their populations Native to the US pygmy rabbits weigh less than 1 pound and live in the American West They are believed to be the smallest rabbits in the world Their habitats have been destroyed by development Several populations such as the Columbia Basin pygmy almost went extinct and were saved by zoo breeding programs Pygmy rabbits also rely on winter cover by digging tunnels through the snow to escape predators but lesser snowfall is leaving them exposed All of this gives new meaning to dressing up in a giant bunny costume this Easter 60 The writer mentions Easter at the beginning of the passage in order to A show the importance of Easter Day B introduce the issue about bunnies C remind people of Easter traditions D discuss the relationship between Easter and bunnies 61 According to the passage some rabbits can now be easily discovered by predators because they A are exposed to more skillful hunters B have moved to habitats with fewer plants 用心 爱心 专心7 C haven t adapted themselves to climate change D can t change their fur color into white in the fall and the spring 62 The problem faced by volcano rabbits and rock rabbits is that A both are affected by less snow B both are affected by rising sea levels C neither can find enough food D neither can migrate to higher places 2012山东卷 C For those who are tired doing the laundry Samsung has found an answer a washing machine that can tell you when your laundry is done via a smartphone app application Strange though it may seem my wife already does that was a common response among attendees viewing the device when it was introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show CES this week Samsung is just one of many appliance makers racing to install 安装 a large number of internet connected features in machines in an effort to make them smart Last year it was a refrigerator that tweeted This year it s Wi Fi enabled laundry machines and fridges that can tell you when your groceries are going bad The washers and dryers available starting in the spring connect to any smartphone through a downloadable application The phone can then be used as a remote control so the machines can be turned on and off while their owners is at work or on the bus Samsung says it s not just something new the app connection actually has some practical uses If you started to dry clothes in the morning and forgot to take them out you can go to your phone and restart your dryer for the time when come home so your clothes are refreshed and ready to go said spokesperson Amy Schmidt The company also says that with electricity rate 电价 varying depending on the time of day more control over when the machines are used can help save 用心 爱心 专心8 money Perhaps but what they will probably really accomplish is what all good technologies do enable laziness Rather than getting up to check on whether the laundry is done users will instead monitor it on their phones while watching TV 63 What can be inferred from the common response of the attendees at the CES A The machine will be a big success B Their wives like doing the laundry C The machine is unrelated to their life D This kind of technology is familiar to them 64 What can we learn about the new laundry machines A They can tell you when your clothes need washing B They can be controlled with a smartphone C They are difficult to operate D They are sold at a low price 65 We can conclude form Samsung s statements that A the app connection makes life easier B it is better to dry clothes in the morning C smartphone can shorten the drying time D we should refresh clothes back at home 66 What is the main idea of the last paragraph A The laundry should be frequently checked B Lazy people like using such machines C Good technologies also cause problems D Television may help do the laundry 2012 全国 II D Facial expressions carry meaning that is determined by situations and relationships For example in American culture 文化 the smile is in general an expression of pleasure Yet it also has other uses A woman s smile at a 用心 爱心 专心9 police officer does not carry the same meaning as the smile she gives to a young child A smile may show love or politeness It can also hide true feelings It often causes confusion 困惑 across cultures For example many people in Russia smiling at strangers in public to be unusual and even improper Yet many Americans smile freely at strangers in public places although this is less common in big cities Some Russians believe that Americans smile in the wrong places some Americans believe that Russians don t smile enough In Southeast Asian culture a smile is frequently used to cover painful feelings Vietnamese people may tell a sad story but end the story with a smile Our faces show emotions 情感 but we should not attempt to read people from another culture as we would read someone from our own culture The fact that members of one culture do not express their emotions as openly as do members of another does not mean that they do not experience emotions Rather there are cultural differences in the amount of facial expressions permitted For example in public and in formal situations many Japanese do not show their emotions as freely as Americans do When with friends Japanese and Americans seem to show their emotions similarly It is difficult to generalize about Americans and facial expressiveness because of personal and cultural differences in the United States People from certain cultural backgrounds in the United States seem to be more facially expressive than others The key is to try not to judge people whose ways of showing emotion are different If we judge according to our own cultural habits we may make the mistake of reading the other person incorrectly 67 What does the smile usually mean in the US A Love B Politeness C Joy D Thankfulness 68 The author mentions the smile of the Vietnamese to prove that smile can A show friendliness to strangersB be used to hide true feelings C be used in the wrong placesD show personal habits 69 What should we do before attempting to read people 用心 爱心 专心10 A Learn about their relations with others B Understand their cultural backgrounds C Find out about their past experience D Figure out what they will do next 70 What would be the best title for the test A Cultural DifferencesB Smiles and Relationship C Facial ExpressivenessD Habits and Emotions 第二节 共 5 小题 每小题 2 分 满分 10 分 just shouting and a note taker writes them all down 71 By getting different ideas out there ideas are said to bounce off each other and even can help solve the problem at hand Brainstorming is often a group exercise but individuals can also conduct personal brainstorms 72 He defined it as using the brain to storm a creative problem and do so in commando 突击队 fashion with each stormer attacking the same objective According to him it was easier to tone down a wild idea than think up a new one He placed importance on the collection of as many ideas as possible and dismissed scientific thinking Brainstorming has become one of the most popular ways to solve problems and hold discussion in schools and businesses Many students brainstorm for a group assignment or even for a personal essay Sarah Grace 24 is an Australian marketing analyst and uses brainstorming during all her creative duties She thinks brainstorming is the best way to work as a team The sessions get everyone on the same page everyone moving together and with a clear understanding about the foundations of an event or idea 73 However a big problem with brainstorming is creating a mess that leads people further away from a solution 74 If you don t have a strong moderator or leader of the brainstorm can go really off track and people just start discussing something totally different Brainstorming can sometimes confuse the human brain 75 If you brainstorm too much and your page is filled up with all the messy links you can paint yourself into a bit of corner and get trapped with ideas You need to move past brainstorming as soon as you have something workable A The ideas can be smart strange or crazy B It is caused by a lack of direction from a lead
