满分 50 分 第一节 阅读下列短文 从每题所给的四个选项 A B C D 中 选出最佳选项 并在答 题纸上 将该选项标号涂黑 A A Sometimes successful health campaigns can have quite unexpected reactions The years of warnings about skin cancer mean that Britons are happy to cover themselves in sunscreen or stay out of the sun altogether but it also means that most of us are not getting enough vitamin D Scientists announced yesterday that Britons need to increase to three times the amount of vitamin D they get per day They called on food producers to fortify 强化 their products with more of the vitamin and suggested people should consider taking supplements 补充物 to keep levels up They also suggested getting out in the sun for short periods more often but they warned against sun bingeing The government does not publish official advice on the amount of vitamin D people should take due to a lack of research says Dr Birgit Teucher of the Institute for Food Research But in the US the government recommends 5 micrograms a day By that count Dr Teucher said that around 90 of Britons between 19 and 64 would be lacking in the vitamin because they only took around 3 micrograms a day Vitamin D is important for absorption of calcium 钙 by the body which is needed for healthy teeth and bones A lack of it can lead to serious diseases in both children and adults The vitamin can be found in some foods but it can also be obtained from chemicals in the skin reacting to sunlight Dr Barbara Boucher said adults should get 5 to 25 micrograms a day Shortage of vitamin D may be linked to diseases such as muscle weakness high blood pressure and rickets 佝偻病 Dr Teucher gave several reasons for the lack among Britons Increasing numbers of office based jobs mean a lack of exposure to the sun and the rise of becoming overweight means that vitamin D which is fat soluble 可溶解的 一 is increasingly stored in body fat where it cannot be accessed readily Professor Brian Wharton of the Institute of Child Health said that children in particular needed to have enough vitamin D to prevent rickets Professor Graham Bentham an environmental scientist at the University of East Anglia added that babies who were only breast fed probably need to take supplements in case their mother was vitamin D lacking Those drinking milk 5 were likely to be OK thanks to the fortification of the drink The scientists called on food producers to fortify milk bread and breakfast nutrient to enable people to get their daily amount of the vitamin Prof Bentham added that 30 minutes of sun exposure to the face and forearms between April and October would be sufficientsufficient Outside these months the sun is not strong enough in Britain for the body to produce its own vitamin D But Prof Bentham warned against spending too long in the sun Sun bingeing is well known to be dangerous he said In any case vitamin D transformation in the skin switches off after a while so short frequent amounts are better for vitamin D formation 41 From Paragraphs l 2 we can infer that A some health campaigns are very successful B people are lacking in various vitamins C Britons are advised not to get out in the sun D vitamin D can be obtained by staying in the sun 42 The word sufficient Paragraph 8 is the closest in meaning to A enough B proper C familiar D available 43 From the passage we can conclude A the babies who were only breast fed certainly need to take vitamin D supplements B a large quantity of vitamin D stored in body fat is the primary reason for being overweight C the sunlight can produce adequate vitamin D that the body needs all year round D vitamin D is vital for the body to absorb calcium needed for healthy teeth and bones 44 The government doesn t give official advice on the amount of vitamin D because A they think it is harmful for health B they don t want to be blamed C they aren t confident of its function D they haven t concrete proof 45 Which best describes the writer s tone in the passage A Humorous B Objective C Pessimistic D One three years Jennifer Fitzgerald 3 1 is currently stuck with the bill but says the 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo actually belongs to an ex boyfriend who registered the ear in her name without her knowledge From May 23 2009 through SupermarketSupermarket ownerowner givesgives awayaway storesstores toto hishis 400400 employeesemployees This is the season of giving and a grocery store owner is doing just that Joe Lueken who owns and manages two grocery stores in Bemidji Minnesota and one in Wahpeton North Dakota is retiring at age 70 Instead of selling his stores to the highest bidder though he will Fitzgerald says she doesn t owe the city a dime and has filed a lawsuit against the city of Chicago and the ex boyfriend an employee stock ownership program receiving shares of Lueken s Village Foods based on length of service and salary and at no cost to them Joe explained his reason for turning over ownership to his employees My employees are largely responsible for any Success I ve had and they it can be operated with just one hand D it s designed by engineering students 47 Chevy Monte Carlo is the name of A an abandoned car B a police officer C a street in Chicago D Fitzgerald s ex females enjoy a much longer life than males do D many Chinese white collars don t have a right attitude towards wealth C C Today s amazing newspaper headline First family of four to walk to the South Pole wearing Mickey Mouse ears and clown s shoes No not really It isn t true I invented it But I wouldn t be surprised to see it one day soon It seems that every week someone becomes the first or the youngest or the oldest or even the first married couple to do something that doesn t seem to be very useful to the rest of humanity 9 This year I ve seen headlines saying The youngest person to sail the Atlantic alone The youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest and The first people to fly around the world in a hot air balloon Why do they do it Don t they have better things to do with their time and money And why should I be interested anyway Human beings have already climbed the highest mountains sailed across the oceans and flown around the world People have already reached the most remote parts of our planet Many of these things were done a long long time ago There just isn t anything left to explore nowadays I suppose there s still a lot of the universe left and the bottom of the oceans is still a bit of a mystery but you need a lot of technology to explore areas like that So those people who feel the need for adventure can only do things that have been done before So they have to try and do it in a new way or be the fastest or the youngest or the oldest to do something that isn t really new at all What is so great about climbing Mount Everest these days anyway It sIt s becomebecome a a popularpopular touristtourist trip trip People pay thousands of dollars to be taken up the mountain by the local Sherpas who lead the way and carry the bags At any one time there are about a thousand people either climbing up or on their way back down As a result Everest is covered with rubbish and the Sherpas have to make special trips up the mountain to pick it up The climbers are often inexperienced and when they get into trouble other people have to risk their lives to bring them down to safety Helicopter crews have been killed trying to reach people who were stuck on the mountain In January 2003 a helicopter carrying two British men crashed into the sea near Antarctica I m not quite sure what they were trying to be the first or the youngest to do The Chilean navy picked them up after a nine hour rescue mission that cost tens of thousands of pounds all paid for by the Chilean and British taxpayers Talking of taxpayers many Australians are getting a bit fed up with record breakers A lot of people trying to break sailing or rowing records get into trouble in the seas around Australia so the Australian navy has to send ships to save them There have been a lot of difficult time consuming rescue missions in recent years costing the Australian government millions of dollars I suppose we can t just leave them to drown but personally I think we should give the bill to the people who are rescued Perhaps they would think twice about doing it if they had to pay for expensive insurance premiums 保费 Then 1 wouldn t have to read about them in the newspapers either 50 The writer invents the newspaper headline in Paragraphs 1 2 to A persuade readers of a new theory B remind readers of an important event C get readers interested in the topic D entertain readers with his humor 51 By saying It s become a popular tourist trip the writer actually 10 wants to express that A it s impossible to climb up Mountain Everest without help B Mount Everest is now covered with a lot of rubbish C climbing Mount Everest has already lost its true meaning D people without experience may get in trouble or even danger 52 Which of the following is the reason why many Australians dislike the record breakers A They have to pay for the costs of rescuing the record breakers B A great number of people try to break records in the seas around Australia C The Australian navy was not something intended for rescue work D The record breakers should pay for their insurance premiums themselves 53 The writer s purpose of wr
