Public tours have been offered since Thomas Jefferson was president, but you cant just drop in. Visits to the White House are in high demand, and you must make your request through your member of Congress (国会) up to six months, and no fewer than 21 days, before your visit. Be sure to check the White House tourinfo Web site to make sure about the personal identification youll need. And on the day of your visit, call 2024567041 to confirm the tour schedule.US. Capitol (国会大厦)The US. Capitol is one of the citys most popular tourist destinations. Your visit begins at the visitor center; plan to arrive about 45 minutes before your tour to get through security (the building is open MondaySaturday from 8:30 am. to 4:30 pm. ). While waiting, look around the centers exhibition space, which features such historic treasures as the table used by Abraham Lincoln and the House gavel (小木槌) used during the roll call vote to declare war on Germany and Italy in 1941. In fact, even if you dont have tour tickets, the visitor center is worth a stop if youre in the area.President Lincolns Cottage You shouldnt miss this stop, the hilltop home where President Abraham Lincoln and his family lived during part of the Civil War.Lincolns Cottage is simply furnished but features lighting effects and actors recordings that reveal Lincolns thoughts on slavery and the war. “In the library you can actually see the ghost lines of where the library shelves would have been,” says cottage director Erin Carlson Mast. “We havent recreated the bookshelves because that was such an amazing moment of discovery for us that we wanted to preserve that so people can have that moment of discovery themselves. ”Library of Congress The Library of Congress is housed in three buildings: the Thomas Jefferson Building, James Madison Memorial Building and the John Adams Building. Although trying to see all of it in one day is possible, its probably best to do a little thinking ahead and figure out which areas youd really like to explore(i. e, when your feet start to hurt, you wont feel so bad about not catching everything). The most popular visitor destination is the Thomas Jefferson Building, but there are things worth seeing murals (壁画), sculptures, performances elsewhere in the complex.1Which is TRUE about the White House?AIt is a new tourist attraction.BIt is open only to members of Congress.CA reservation for a visit is required.DYou should call 2024567041 during your visit.2It can be learned that you_to see the things on show in the visitor center of the U. We should care about how we read as much as what we read. So pick up a book, sit back, and let a spiritual journey begin that will take you places only deep reading can.(1)_Deep reading makes people betterCommon beliefIt has not been (2)_ that people are morally or socially better for reading literature.Present studiesCanadian studyFiction readers seem to be more (3)_ towards other people.Deep reading helps (4)_ a mental representation in the readers brain.SouthAfrican studyDeep readers will slow down when their reading experience is most (5)_Deep readers can (6)_ their reading with their own thoughts, analysis, memories and opinions.(7)_Without (8)_ their brains to read literature, people are losing the ability to appreciate it.Some educators blindly (9)_education to students onscreen habits.SuggestionWe should care about the (10)_ we read as much as the contents. 所以用whether,表示“不论”,与后面的or形成whether . or . 2选A根据下文中的“rather than following a practical approach to life”可知,作者认为敞开心扉意味着失去自己的判断而不是遵循人生的实用方法。 6选A根据“I distanced myself from other people”可知,此处表示“我”越长大,就越疏远其他人,distance oneself from .“拉开距离,与疏远”,所以选A。注意:distance oneself from . 8选C根据上文中的“communicating and getting on with one another”可知,人们交流、相处的同时分享(sharing)他们的经历和感受,此处为现在分词sharing作伴随状语,因此选择C。
