Is it safe for kids to consume these products? You may have heard adults say they cant get going in the morning without a cup of coffee. One reason why they may feel that way is that coffee contains caffeine, a substance (物质) known to improve and increase energy. Caffeine occurs naturally in coffee, tea, and cocoa beans, which are used to make chocolate. But now food makers are adding caffeine to many products, from popcorn and potato chips to water. “Its possible for all of this caffeine consumption to add up and become dangerous,” says Virginia Stallings, a doctor at the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia.Studies show that too much caffeine can cause inability to sleep, and a racing heartbeat. Whats more, caffeine is habit-forming. Those who consume it regularly and stop suddenly may experience headaches and feel tired. One of the biggest problems is the large amount of caffeine added to so-called energy drinks, like Red Bull. A 12-ounce can of cola has about 35 milligrams of caffeine. A similar serving of Red Bull contains more than triple (三倍) that amount. Emergency-room visits related to energy-drink consumption were up from 10,068 visits in 2007 to 20,783 in 2011.Teenagers should be aware of caffeines effects on health and on the brain. Take, for example, teenagers who consume caffeine to stay awake and study for a test. The effect? Research shows they may remember less of what they just studied. So what can be done to protect young people from the harmful effects of caffeine? Michael Jacobson of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, says the FDA needs to set limits on caffeine, especially in energy drinks. The amount of caffeine should be printed on food labels to warn consumers. Doctors say kids should avoid caffeine. If you need extra energy, try these natural methods instead: eating right, exercising, and getting plenty of sleep.5. And making that dream come true often means finding a building no one else seems to want, which is exactly what happened to David Yocum and his partner,Brian Bell. Their building is a former automobile electrical-parts firm in Atlanta. From the outside,it looks too old, even something horrible, but open the door and you are in a wide, open courtyard, lined on three sides with rusting (生锈的)walls. In 2000,Yocum and Bell found this building in the citys West End. Built in 1947,the structure had been abandoned years earlier and the roof of the main building had fallen down. But the price was right,so Yocum bought it. He spent eight months of his off-hours on demolition (拆除),pulling rubbish out through the roof, because it was too dangerous to go inside the building. The demolition was hard work, but it gave him time to think about what he wanted to do,and“to treasure what was therethe walls, the rust, the light. “ Yocum said. “Every season, more paint falls off the walls and more rust develops. Its like an art installation (装置)in therea slow-motion show. “Since the back building had been constructed without windows,an all-glass front was added to the building to give it a view of the courtyard, and skylights were installed in the roof. The back of the building is a working area and a living room for Yocum and his wife. A sort of buffer (缓冲) zone between the front and the back contains a bathroom,a kitchen and a mechanical room, and the walls that separate these zones have openings that allow views through to the front of the studio and the courtyard beyond.Yocum and Bell, who have just completed an art gallery for the city, feel that the experience from the decoration of their building, focusing on the inside rather than the outside, has influenced their work. It has also given these architects a chance to show how they can make more out of less.1. A final unveiling of their creation will be performed for friends and family at the end of the year at Imagination Stage.Wanjiru Kamau, coordinator of White Oaks African Club said its important to give troubles to group members to help them find their place at the school. “It comforts those who are uncomfortable, and it discomforts those who are comfortable,” Kamau said of Project X.Kamau teamed up with Imagination Stage after she noticed that many African students seemed uncomfortable talking about problems, such as being laughed at by their fellow students about how they look and talk. When most of the kids join the club, they speak little or no English, Kamau said. Each week, the club typically draws five to ten students who are originally from Africa for discussion sessions and the Project X programme.“We are going to express ourselves through our words and our actions, and thats powerful,” said teaching artist Meg Green as she introduced fill-in-the-blank poems the students wrote about their identities. One student, Frank Ketchouang, 13, wrote, “I am from the world; I am love,” which drew oohs and aahs from the group. Ketchouang has been in the United States for less than a year, said Program Coordinator Chad Dike. When Ketchouang started attending Project X, he had been in the United States for two months and spoke no English. Now hes one of the groups most outgoing m
