To develop studentsresponsibility towards the environment and our friends - animals and birds.重点难点重点To learn the new words and understand the text.难点To master the new words and answer some detailed questions about the text.教学准备A tape recorder , pictures and Multimedia teaching aids.教学过程STEP 1 Warm-up1. Greetings. ( T: Good mornig , boys and girls. Im so happy to see you again.)2. Get some pairs of students to act out the conversation between Eddie and Hobo they learned in Comic strip. ( T: Last time we learned a conversation between Eddie and Hobo. Id like to choose some pairs to act it out. Any volunteer? T: All of you did a good job. Im so proud of you. )3. Ask some questions about it: ( T: Here are some questios about the conversation. Would you like to have a try? )1. What is Eddie going to do? (Eddie is going birdwatching.)2. Does he really love birds? (No.)3. What kind of birds does he like best? (He likes Beijing Ducks and roast chickens.)STEP 2 Talking about birds ( T: Thats a great answer. Eddie doesnt really love birds, he isnt a good birdwatcher. Do you want to be a real bird watcher? Yes, I think all of you love birds, right? Ok, look at the pictures and lets talk about birds. ) 1. Show the pictures of different kinds of birds to review words and expressions. And then talk about them focusing on whats special about the birds. ( T: What bird is this? What does it look like? What is the feature of it? ) 2. Show the pictures together and then get the students to give their names. Make sureall the students can read the names correctly. 3. Get the students to do some riddles and check if they know the birds well. 1. I live close to the sea. I have black and grey or black feathers. I am long-winged. Iam web-footed and I can swim very well. Who am I? (A seagull.)2. I live in wetland. I am very tall. I have long beak, long neck and long legs. I haveblack and white feathers. Who am I? (A crane.)4. Do Part A on Page75. Check the answers. STEP 3 Lead-in and presentation1. Play the song “A true story”( T: Now, lets enjoy a song. Its about a true story. There was once a girl who loved red-crowned cranes very much. After she graduated from college, she returned to her hometown to take care of them. One day she slipped into the wetlands in order to save a crane. )( T: What a moving song! We should remember her great contribution to wildlife.We have learnt a lot about different kinds of birds. These birds are beautiful and lovely, but some of them are rare now. They are endangered. Many birds are endangered. The Chinese government is building more nature reserves for the birds. Zhalong is one of the them. Today we are going to learn something about Zhalong. ) 板书课题: (Unit 5 Bird watchers Reading Birds in Zhalong.)2. Key words and expressions review1.) Show students a picture of the Zhalong Nature Reserve. Introduce the Nature Reserves . Give the students some ideas about where the reserve is. (Teach the word north-east.)2.) Show the pictures of “Wetland”. Lead the students to say the sentences “Wetlands give food and shelter to the birds.” ,“Wetlands provide food and shelter for the birds.”, “It is an ideal home for wildlife.” 3.) Show a picture of“red-crowned cranes”.Teach the phrases “red-crowned cranes” and “rare birds”. Then lead the students to say the sentences “They are in danger.” And “They are endangered birds.”STEP 4 Pre-reading1. Listen to the tape (Paragraphs 1-4 ) and answer the questions.1. Where is Zhalong Nature Reserve? ( It is in Heilongjiang in north-east China. )2. Why is it a great place for wildlife? ( Because it provides food and shelter for them.)3. Why are birds and wildlife in danger? ( Because there will be less and less space for them.)2. Do exercises: Help Sandy choose the right meaning for each word. (B1 on Page 78) Check the answers.STEP 5 Further-reading1. Listen to the tape and practice reading the passage, then do T or F. (C1 on Page 79) 2. Check the answers3. Read paragraphs 1-2. Give the students some minutes to read paragraphs 1-2. Let them say something about Zhalong.How long do birds live in Zhalong?Many birds live there all year round.Some stay there for a short time.What do birds eat?The birds catch fish for food.4.Read paragraphs 3-4 .Give the students some minutes to read paragraphs 3-4. Let them say something about birds danger.They do not have enough living space.Some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings, so there will be less and less space for wildlife.STEP 6 Practice ( Paragraphs 1-4 )1. Play the tape and get the students to follow.2. Go through the text and help them to locate some of the important sentencespatterns.1. The area provides food and shelter for vide v. 提供provide sb. with sth. = provide sth. for sb.e.g. Sheep provide us with wool. Sheep provide wool for us. 2. Many birds live comfortably in Zhalong Nature Reserve all year round, all year round 一年到头,全年e.g. The farmers work on the farm all year round.3. This means there will be less and less space for wildlife.less and less 越来越少的比较级 + and + 比较级 表示“越来越” e.g.The weather is getting colder and colder.3. Get the students to complete the exercises in Part B2, Page 78. Check the answer and then get them to read the passage loudly.STEP 7 Retelling the passage ( Paragraphs 1-4 )Get the students retell the passage orally first and then fill in the blanks.Zhalong is a nature reserve in north-east China. Its one of the worlds most important wetlands. It provides food and shelter for wildlife.So it is an ideal home for some endangered wildlife. But some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings. There will be less and less living space for wildlife. STEP 8 DiscussionWhy did the writer write this passage?
