The topic of this unit is different festivals. The function is talking about how to give a personal reaction. This passage is well organized with three parts: an introduction ,main body and a conclusion.It is a long passage with many descriptions about the story about Change as well as many new words and phrases,which may add to the difficulty of comprehending the material and getting the main idea.The analysis on the learnersStudents are very familiar with the Mid-Autumn Day and some customs on this festival.They may know a little the specific information about the story about Change such as something about goddess,Pangmeng. They may have difficulty in vocabulary to talk about it.Nearly everyone is very interested in stories. Students at this age are not so easily activated by pictures, but a popular song and various activities may arouse their interests. The rearrangement of the teaching materialThree activities ( retelling, role-play and free writing) are designed to get students mentally prepared for the reading.The content in 3c has been replaced with a more authentic activity. Students will be asked to write some different ending of their own to replace the ending of the story in passage.Learning objectives:By the end of this lesson,students will be able to1. Language skillsto get the main idea of each paragraph by skimming and scanning and to get some information about the story about Change. to guess the meaning of the new words and phrases according to the context.to change the ending of the story with their imagination.2. Language knowledgeto grasp some new words and expressions in this passage, such as lay out,dessert,garden,admire,etc.to use present object clause more freely in authentic communication. 3. Affectsto have a better understanding about the traditional culture and can inherit and spread Chinese culture.4. Learning strategiesto cultivate their ability individual learning and cooperative learning by doing some activities independently and some in groups.to communicate with each other in English while doing the group work.5. Cultural awarenessto know more about the background information about the touching story, such as something about Pangmeng,goddess,Houyi and Change, etc. to understand the meaning of Mid-Autumn Festival and full moon,full feeling.Language focuses and anticipated difficultiesSs will master the new words and key phrases:lay out,admire the moon.
