辽宁盖州市2017高考英语一轮阅读理解技能演练(三)故事类阅读理解。As a young boy, I sometimes traveled the country roads with my dad. He was a rural mail carrier, and on Saturdays he would ask me to go with him. Driving through the countryside was always an adventure: There were animals to see, people to visit, and chocolate cookies if you knew where to stop, and Dad did.In the spring, Dad delivered boxes full of baby chickens, and when I was a boy it was such fun to stick your fingers through one of the holes of the boxes and let the baby birds peck on your fingers. On Dads final day of work, it took him well into the evening to complete his rounds because at least one member from each family was waiting at their mailboxes to thank him for his friendship and his years of service.“Two hundred and nineteen mailboxes on my route,” he used to say, “and a story at every one.” One lady had no mailbox, so Dad took the mail in to her every day because she was nearly blind. Once inside, he read her mail and helped her pay her bills.Mailboxes were sometimes used for things other than mail. One note left in a mailbox read, “Nat, take these eggs to Marian; shes baking a cake and doesnt have any eggs.” Mailboxes might be buried in the snow, or broken, or lying on the ground, but the mail was always delivered. On cold days Dad might find one of his customers waiting for him with a cup of hot chocolate. A young girl wrote letters but had no stamps, so she left a few buttons on the envelope in the mailbox; Dad paid for the stamps. One businessman used to leave large amounts of cash in his mailbox for Dad to take to the bank. Once, the amount came to $32,000.A dozen years ago, when I traveled back to my hometown on the sad occasion of Dads death, the mailboxes along the way reminded me of some of his stories. I thought I knew them all, but that wasnt the case.As I drove home, I noticed two lamp poles, one on each side of the street. When my dad was around, those poles supported wooden boxes about four feet off the ground. One box was painted green, and the other was red, and each had a long narrow hole at the top with white lettering: SANTA CLAUS, NORTH POLE. For years children had dropped letters to Santa through those holes.I made a turn at the corner and drove past the post office and across the railroad tracks to our house. Mom and I were sitting at the kitchen table when I heard footsteps. There, at the door, stood Frank Townsend, Dads postmaster and great friend for many years. So we all sat down at the table and began to tell stories. At one point Frank looked at me with tears in his eyes. “What are we going to do about the letters this Christmas?”he asked.“The letters?”“I guess you never knew.”“Knew what?”“Remember, when you were a kid and you used to put your letters to Santa in those green and red boxes on Main Street? It was your dad who answered all those letters every year.”I just sat there with tears in my eyes. It wasnt hard for me to imagine Dad sitting at the old oak table in our basement reading those letters and answering each one. I have since spoken with several of the people who received Christmas letters during their childhood, and they told me how amazed they were that Santa had known so much about their homes and families. For me, just knowing that story about my father was the gift of a lifetime.1. The throwers lack of distance was a blessing. Had he gathered tips from the competitors of the hammer throw(链球) competition, which was taking place in the infield at the same time as the 100 final, the bottle could have hit one of the competitors. It ended up landing a few feet from Blake (lane5).Edith Bosch, a female Dutch judoka who won a bronze medal earlier during the Olympics, claimed that the man who threw the bottle was sitting near her and that she “beat” him. Whether thats true or the hyperbole (夸张的语句) of an aggravated athlete was unclear in the minutes after the incident. Pictures show a group of Dutch athletes sitting behind the starting area.Police took the man into custody(监护). He will appear in court on Monday morning.Neither Bolt nor Blake said they knew of the incident until they were informed by reporters. “I dont know who would have done that,” Bolt said.Gatlin was aware of it but implied it was only a slight distraction. “I didnt know what it was,” he said, according to the BBC, “but when youre in those blocks, the whole stadium is so quiet that you can hear a pin drop.”1.How many exact athletes are mentioned in the text?A. When handwritten essays were introduced on the SAT exams for the class of 2011, just 15% of the most 1.5 million students wrote their answers in cursive (草写字母).The rest? Block letters. And those college hopefuls are just the first edge of a wave of US students who no longer get much handwriting instructions in the primary grades, frequently 10 minutes a day or less. As a result, more and more students struggle to read and write cursive. At Keene Mill Elementary School in Springfield, all their poems and stories are typed. Children in Fairfax County schools are taught keyboarding beginning in kindergarten. Older students who never mastered handwriting say it doesnt affect their grades. There are those who say the culture is at a crossing, turning from the written word to the typed one. If handwriting becomes a lost form of communication, does it matter? It was at University of Virginia that researchers recently discovered a previously unknown poem by Robert, written in his unique script. Handwritten documents are more valuable to researchers, historians say, because their authenticity (真实性)can be confirmed. Students also find them more fascinating. The loss of handwriting also may be a cognitive (认知的)opportunity missed. Several academic studies have found that good handwriting skills at a young age can help children express their thoughts better-a lifelong benefit. It doesnt take much to teach better handwriting skills. At some schools in Prince Georges County, elementary school students use a program called Handwriting Without Tears for 15 minutes a day. They learn the correct formation of manuscript letters through second grade, and cursive letters in third grade. There are always going to be some kids who struggle with handwriting because of their particular neurological (神经系统的) wiring, learning issues or poor motor skills. Educators often point to this factor in support of keyboarding.64. What is the author concerned about after 2011 SAT exams?A. Keyboarding. B. Shorthand. C. Handwriting. D. Block letters.65. A poem by Robert mentioned in the passage is used to _.A. prove how valuable handwriting isB. explain what a famous poet he isC. show how unique his poem isD. stress how fascinating the documents are66. The example of Handwriting Without Tears helps to argue that_.A. the schools are responsible for the loss of handwritingB. the loss of handwriting is a cognitive opportunity missed C. it doesnt take much to teach better handwriting skillsD. the culture is turning from the written word to the typed one67. According to the author, when is a perfect time to learn handwriting?A. Kindergarten. B. Primary school. C. High school. D. College.【参考答案】【参考答案】64-67 CACB 【2014高考英语吉林省实验中学一模试题】DIn todays fast paced, high stress world people are working longer hours than ever, and often exhaust themselves at days end in front of the television to relax enough to begin again in the morningHowever, television watching, for most people, does not really lower stressStudies show that TV viewing more than an hour or so actually creates stress and, especially in women, may lead to the bluesMost individuals are unaware that doing some exercise after work makes them more energetic since it increases energy levels Wise use of free time does not mean getting an advanced degree, although the mental encouragement gained through education is unbeatable in keeping your mind activeLearning new things nearly always adds a spark to your daily life, especially if it is a favorite topic, such as sport, fashion, or artAlso, look through your bookstore or library to find books on your interestsTry to replace a half hour TV watching with reading It is reported that in the United States recently, many individuals have as few as two good friendsLong work hours and car commute act to separate people from each otherThis separation is deadlyFind ways to meet people at the end of the day and on weekendsOften this can be best done by comb
