A Reading Report of Pride and Prejudice I first know this book by watch the movie when I was in middle school My Chinese teacher told us that this book was very famous We should read it more carefully not just watch the movie This winter holiday Dr Liu asked us to write a reading report in English Then I decided to read this novel At first I just considered it to be a romantic love story But when I understood the social background of this period I found that it was not only a romantic love story but also a epitome of social of Britain in the 18 century Jane Austen 16 December 1775 18 July 1817 one of the most famous novelist in Britain was born in Hampshire She lived in the village throughout her life There were two suitors in her whole life but she never married She was very talent writer She finished her first novel when she was 21 years old Its name was First Impression But after refusing it had a new name Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen published many famous books So she was called the most perfect artist among women by Virginia Woolf Mr Bennet is an Englishman with a great deal of fortune in Hertfordshire He has five unmarried daughter As he has no son so his inheritance has to be inherited by a female Mrs Bennet has been looking forward to seeking husband for her daughter One day a man named Bingley becomes the Bennets new neighbor He is a handsome man who is a wealthy bachelor and become the target of Mrs Bennet Bingley fells in love with Jane Bennet soon at a ball who is the oldest daughter of Mr Bennet s Mr Bingley has a friend named Daray who always shows others an impression of pride He also comes to the ball He is handsome and many girls like him very much while he thinks that all of them could not suit his preference including Elizabeth who is the second oldest daughter in the Bennets Before long Mr Darcy fells in love with Elizabeth Bennet because of her lovely behavior But Elizabeth is disgusted by his pride and has a prejudice about her The young handsome army official Wickham is welcomed by the villagers and Elizabeth like him very much Wickham tells Elizabeth that his father has been the steward of the Darays Mr Daray s father has been regarding Wickham as his own son and showed more love to him than to Mr Daray After the old Daray died the property should be inherited by Wickham not Mr Daray All that make Elizabeth has more prejudice to Mr Daray At another ball Mr Daray invites Elizabeth to dance with him but Elizabeth refuses him right now Elizabeth s elder cousin Mr Collin comes to Herfordshire to inherit the Bennet s property by rules He wants to marry with one of the Mr Bennet s five daughters As Jane has already engaged with Mr Bingly he asks Elizabeth to marry him but is seriously refused At last he proposed to Elizabeth s friend Charllote Mr Collins is a person who is good at flattering With the help of Catherine he got the pastorate One day his families are invited to Rose Garden by Catherine Elizabeth goes there with Mr Collin and Charllote She meets Mr Daray there who is Catherine s nephew Later sir William tells Elizabeth about Mr Daray s act of prevent Mr Bingley s marring Jane Bennet which causes Elizabeth extremely angry Then Mr Daray comes to the Collin s and confuses his love for Elizabeth Of course he is refused seriously again Then Mr Daray writes a letter to Elizabeth in order to remove Elizabeth misunderstandings to him Elizabeth s uncle and aunt are moved deeply by Mr Daray s politeness Finallay Elizabeth s prejudice to Mr Daray disappears Eventually they get married and become couple Elizabeth Bennet is the main character in the novel She is the second daughter in the Bennet She is intelligent attractive and witty The other hand she is a person who with a tendency to adjust something on her first impression But I do not think it is good character At the beginning of the 18 century Britain has just finished her industry revolution Money plays an important role in the whole society So Elizabeth has a prejudice on everything In the other word her character is decided by the social background Mr Daray is the main male character Twenty eight years old and unmarried Daray is the wealthy owner of the famous family astate of Pemberley in Derbyshire He makes a poor impression on strangers but is valued by those who know him well He has been misunderstood by Elizabeth for a long time But he tries his best to clear it Finally he achieves his love At the same time he deserves our respect Jane Bennet is the eldest Bennet sister She is considered the most beautiful young lady in the neighbourhood Her character is contrasted with Elizabeth s as sweet and shyer Her most notable trait is a desire to see only the good in others Jane is closest to Elizabeth and her character is often contrasted with that of Elizabeth When Austen write this novel she was only 21 As she lives in the beginning of the 18 century the whole world has a big development in the industry revolution People s social concept has a big difference compared with it before the industry revolution Austen s sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book quite lively The plots in her works are alwa
