This unit is designed to teach students talk about abilities. This class is not only designed to make students know how to talk about abilities, but know how to ask for joining a club. In the process of learning, students are encouraged to improve their listening skills and speaking silks. Students are expected to learn new words and target language.Analysis of the students:Students in Grade 7 are interested in school activities and they are willing to know more about each other. So they must be interested in the topic of this class. They are supposed to practice listening and speaking. Maybe its a little difficult for some students to connect clubs with their real life. Teaching aims:Knowledge Objectives: By the end of this class, Ss will be able to use the following sentence structures. 1. Can you? 2. Yes, I can./ No, I cant. 3. Can he? 4. Yes, he can./ No, he cant. 5. What can you do? 6. I can7. What club do you want to join? 8. We want to join theclub.Ability Objectives: a) Students practice listening and speaking skills.b) Students learn the culture about clubs.Moral Objectives: Students know more about what their classmates can do and they can know some after-school activities. Type of lesson: Listening and SpeakingClass period: 40minutesImportant points: a) Students know how to ask others what he or she can do.b) Students learn how to ask for joining a club.Difficult points: The culture of after-school activities in America.Teaching methods: Direct method, Situational approach, Audio-lingual method, Task-based language teaching approach.Learning methods:a) Students are guided to learn some listening and speaking strategies. b) Students are encouraged to learn by groups.c) Ss are leaded to use the target language correctly.Resources of teaching: Students book, listening material of this classTeaching Procedures:Teaching ProceduresWhat T does in classWhat Ss do in class(Ts expectation) Purpose of the designStep 1. Greetings and leading in:1. Greet the Ss and show the picture on page 1.2. Ask them”What can you see in the picture?” and “What clubs can you see?”3. After getting the answer, teacher asks students match the activities with the people in 1a.4. Check the answers.5. Write the title of this class: Unit1 Period1 Can you play the guitar?1. They answer Ts questions 2. Students do the exercise of 1a.Its designed to help Ss arouse their interests in what they are learning in this class and focus on the activities and the clubs.Step 2. Listening1b.1. Direct the students to read the direction of 1b.2. Play the tape.3. Check the answers.1. Students read the contents in 1b.2. Listen to the tape and do the listening.3. Give out the answers.1. Its designed to help students to practice listening and get how to use target language.Step 3.Exercise1.Teacher shows students some words and asks them to make conversation like 1b.2. Let students show their conversations.3. Write down “- Can you swim? Yes, I can./ No, I cant. I can swim. I cant swim.” on the blackboard.4. Asks students to read the sentences on PPT.Students are able to make conversations like 1b.The task is designed to make students practice target language for the first time.Step 4 Listening. 2a&2b1. Teacher leads students to read the direction of 2a and 2b.2. Play the tape.3. Check the answers.1. Students listen to the tape and practice listening for the second time.2. Students give out the answers.Its designed to help students to practice listening again and get more usage of target language.Step 5:Pair work1. Teacher shows students some pictures about clubs and a conversation model. 2. Asks students to practice the conversation.Students do a pair work as the conversation model.Its designed to help students to practice speaking and the aim language of this class.Step 6: Group WorkTeacher asks students to be a 4-student group and then they need to share the information to each other.“I can ” and “I want to join club.”Students share their personal information and then share other classmates about their group information.Its designed to make students know more about each other and practice the language for the third time.Step 7 Exercise Show students some exercise about target language.1. Students review the key language with teacher.2. Students are clever about how to use the phrases when they do some exercise.Its designed to make students review the keys of this class.Step 8 Homework1. Teacher asks students to do some exercise on exercise book.2. Teacher asks students to do a role play like tape scripts.Remember what their homework is.1.
