1、must表示推测“可能性”时,意思是“一定、准是”,语气肯定,有把握。 He must be American.=It is certain that he isAmerican.他准是个美国人。 John must go toShanghai withhis father.约翰一定是跟父亲一起去上海了。 2、must表推测只能用于肯定句,而表示“一定不”时,要用cant;询问可能性时,用can。 对比He must know mytelephone number.他一定知道我的电话号码。 He cantknow my address.他一定不知道我的电话号码。 Can heknowmytelephone number?他有可能知道我的电话号码吗?3.must表推测的句型must动词原型表示对现在情况的推测mustbev-ing形式表示对正在发生情况的推测musthave过去分词表示对过去情况的推测注must表示推测时很少用于将来的情况。 一般不用He muste tomorrow.可用Itscertain/Im surethat hewill etomorrow 4、在含有must的反意疑问句中,疑问部分的助动词根据实际情况而定He must be anactor,isnthe?(表现在)他一定是个演员,对吗?She must have meta fairy,hasnt she?(表完成)她一定遇到仙女了,是吗?It must have rainedlastnight,didnt it?(表过去)昨晚一定下雨了,是不是?Can/cant表示推测时的用法 1、can表示推测“可能性”时,往往用于否定句或疑问句;Cant“一定不”,语气很肯定。 can在疑问句中意思是“会、可能”。 He cant goto schooltoday.=It isimpossible thathe doesntgoto school.他一定没去上学。 Can thenews betrue?这消息可能是真的吗? 2、can/cant表推测时的句型can/cant动词原型表示对现在情况的推测can/cantbev-ing形式表示对正在发生情况的推测can/canthave过去分词表示对过去情况的推测 3、在含有cant的反意疑问句中,疑问部分的助动词根据实际情况而定He cantbea teacher,is he?他不是教师,是吗?She cant havefinished herhomework,has she?她一定没有完成家庭作业,是不是?John canthavegone swimmingyesterday,did he?昨天约翰一定没去游泳,对吗?May和和might的用法1.may,might表示推测“可能性”时,意思是“可能”、“也许”,语气上不是太肯定。 He may/might bein hisoffice now.=It ispossible thathe isin hisoffice.他现在可能在办公室。 注might不表示过去时态,只是语气上比may更委婉,表示的可能性更小。 2、may,might表推测时,可以用于否定句,意思是“可能不、也许不”,但不用于疑问句。 He may/might note backforever.他也许永远不回来了。 It may/might notsnow tonight.今天晚上可能不会下雪。 3、may/might表推测时的句型may/might动词原型表示对现在情况的推测may/mightbev-ing形式表示对正在发生的情况的推测may/mighthave过去分词表示对过去情况的推测Step3.情态动词could,should,would的用法?Could的用法 1、could表示推测,表示某事有可能发生或可能是事实。 在肯定句中没有must那么有把握;在否定句中没有cant那么有把握。 2、could还可以用于表示客气、委婉、礼貌的请求语气。 Excuse me,could youtell methe way to thebus station?Should的用法1.should可以用来表示假设、意愿、可能性、义务、委托、建议、命令、目的等。 I shouldadvise you to sayless anddo more.我想劝你少说多做。 (表意愿)She isconsidering howshe shouldanswer.她正在考虑应该如何作答。 (表义务)The boysshouldntbeplaying footballatthistime.They should be at school.孩子们这个时候不该在踢足球,他们应该在学校上学。 (表可能性) 2、should(not)have过去分词表示“本(不)应该”,常含有后悔、责备之意。 We shouldhave checkedthe timebefore weleft.我们本应该先核对一下时间再动身的。 You shouldnthavelent himmoney threeyears ago.你本不应该在三年前借钱给他的?Would的用法Would是will的过去式,表示意志、习惯性、推测、设想、请求、愿望、疑惑等。 She wouldnot gotothedentist eventhough she was inconsiderable pain.(意愿)When myparents wereaway,my grandmother wouldlook afterme.(习惯性)The personyou mentionedwould beher son.(推测)?Would/should/could用于虚拟语气的用法would/should/could用于虚拟语气,表示与现在、将来或过去事实相反的假设。 If Iwere you,I should/could/would quarrelwith theheadmaster.(与现在事实相反)If
