Let students discuss something about Mars and other space knowledge, and lead to the new section .For example:T: What are you going to be when you grow up ?S1:I would like to be a teacher.S2:I want to be an astronaut .I can travel to space by spaceship and discover something new about space .T: What a great dream! In the future, the astronauts from our country will fly to Mars by the spaceship made in China. Do you know something about the Mars? Lets listen to 1 a to learn about it .Step 2 Presentation1.Show a picture of solar system and Mars . Let students listen to 1 a .Teacher marks the diameter of Mars, the distance to the sun , color of Mars in the picture when they are listening to 1 a ,helps students understand.2.Let students listen to 1 a again and underline the new words. Help students to learn and master the new word: storm, search. Understand the new words: Roman , diameter. Know about the new word “gravity”.3. Let students read 1 a and find out the key sentences. Teacher writes them down on the blackboard and helps students to understand them. For example:It is reported thatIts diameter is 53% as long as that of the earth.So a person who weighs 90 kilos on the earth weighs only 36 kilos on Mars.(Teacher can explain the meanings only, and students dont need to master it ,because they will learn the details of it in the following unit.)Step 3 Consolidation1.Let students read 1 a again , discuss the following questions in groups and answer them, finish 1 b ,and then check the answers.What is reported?What does Mars look like?Whats the weather like on Mars?Compare the gravity on Mars with that on the carth.Whats the temperature on Mars?2. Work in groups. Discuss the questions of 2 according to 1 a ,1 b ,master the new word “dry “and give the class a short report.3. work in groups. Discuss a certain environmental problem “Mars doesnt fit humans lives” in groups . Think about its solutions and report them to the class. Compare which solution is the most scientific and feasible.(For example: build a wind power station, plant more trees and grass that can improve dry climate , build a green-city, )Step 4 Practice1.Let students read 3 a and understand the new phrases: base on , science fiction. Then answer the following questions , and then check the answers.Whats the time machine used for?What does E.T. do ? Is he friendly to human beings?What kind of film is Spacewalk?Michael is interested in aliens. He should watch .2.Work in groups . Discuss and list more science fiction movies. Share them with your classmates and finish 3 b.Step 5 Project1.Work in groups.
