Sit down, please!Today, we will learn Unit 5 Why do you like pandas? Section BStep1 Warm-upShow the students some pictures about the animals. Ask: Do you like animals? What animals do you like? Why? Ask the students individually.Some of the animals are in great danger, let students check them. 【教学设计说明】通过学生讨论所出示动物图片,复习所学动物名称及描述词语和句子,图文并茂,既巩固了已学知识点,又起到热身的作用。Step2 Lead-in & Presentation1. Do you want to know what animals I like? Then give the students some information about the animals. Guide them to guess it (elephants). At the same time, draw the stick figure of the elephant. Say: I like elephants very much because they are very smart. Ask: Why do people think elephants are smart? What can they do? Show some pictures to teach some useful sentences.2. Elephants are not only smart but also very important in many countries. Lets look at the big screen. Then show some pictures of buildings in Thailand. Guide students to guess which country it is (Thailand). Introduce some culture about elephants in ThailandThere was a white elephant on the first flag of Thailand. Whats more, the elephant is one of Thailands symbols. Look at Activity 2b, read the article quickly and find the answer to this question:What is the best title for the article? _What Is an Elephant?_ Come to Thailand._Lets Save the Elephants._Elephants Are Good Pets.Step4. Careful readingRead again, answer the questions1. Where are the students from?2 .Are elephants smart animals?.3. Why are elephants in great danger?4. When is Thai Elephant Day?Step5. Read againLets read the article one paragraph after another carefully and find out the topic sentence which can tell us the main idea of each paragraph. Tell students to look at the mind map in 2c. There are four boxes around the word Elephant. The first box is about the importance of the elephants in Thailand. The second box is about the abilities of the elephants. The third box is about the facts and figures of the elephants. The last box is about how to save the elephants.
