The law, approved last March in Israel, requires models to prove they have maintained a Body Mass Index(BMI)of at least 18. 5 for three months before a fashion show. That means a woman who is 58”tall can weigh no less than 119 pounds. “This law is another step in the war against eating disorders, ”said physician Adatto. “Underweight models, ”he explained, “can no longer serve as role models for innocent young people who copy their false image of being skinny. ”But some critics in this country say it is misguided, focusing on weight instead of health. They also say the Israeli ban is bound to fail because of the strong power of the fashion industry. “I think its an approach that isnt going to work, ”said eating disorder expert Susan Ice, who worked with an organization which creates a healthy working environment for models. But Adatto told the reporter that he began to concern the issue after meeting an aspiring model who looked like she needed to be hospitalized. He said, “I realized that only legislation(立法)can change the situation. There was no time to waste; so many girls were dieting to death. ”However, the efforts to regulate models weight in Spain and Italy have not resulted in part because of difficulties in determining reliable methods of measuring weight and health. Still, folks including Ice say theres no denying that images from Hollywood and the fashion industry can be difficult for young women to deal with. “Certainly I dont believe the modeling industry has caused the rise in eating disorders, but it makes it harder, ”she says. “Its a difficult recovery environment, worshiping thinness as the beauty ideal. ”【文章大意】本文讲述了以色列出台了一项新法律, 限制模特太瘦, 此项新法律引起了争议。1. By inserting a barley(大麦) gene into rice, Sun Chuanxin and his colleagues created SUSIBA2 Rice, which stores more starch(淀粉) in the section of the rice above ground, according to a paper published on the latest issue of Nature. This means the grains will have more starch while the root will exude less nutrients that will later be turned into methane by microbes(微生物) in the soil, Sun, who works with Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, told Xinhua. It solves two major problems mankind faces at one time: environmental degradation and the need for increased grain output, Wang Feng, another scientist, said, adding that the rice can cut methane discharge by more than 90 percent during summer and more than half during autumn, as the rice displays a greater emission reduction effect in high temperatures. Meanwhile, small-scale trials have also suggested an increased output: a single plant of the new breed has 300 more grains with a starch content 10 percent higher. Wang said the team is working on applications for the rice in different areas, seasons and using different farming techniques. Its still far away from mass application, but at least we see the light of hope. Human-induced methane, though less abundant than carbon dioxide in the air, is responsible for 20 percent of the global warming effect. Rice paddies are the largest single source of methane linked to human activity. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, China produces 209 million tons of rice in 2014, or 28 percent of the worlds total of 734 million.【小题1】SUSIBA2 Rice will be a major breakthrough because _. Is it beauty? Is it the artists talent and craftsmanship? Or is it just because the artist is famous? We should take beauty out If the buyers were buying paintings only for their beauty, theyll be content displaying good fakes on their walls They wouldnt be so upset when a forgery is exposed The art market claims that great artists are inimitable, and that this inimitability justifies the absurd price of their works We cant deny that most famous artists are good at what they do, but forgers like Qian show that their works are imitableOtherwise, the difference between the original and the copycats would be obvious and Rosales would not be able to fool anyoneAccording to an article in the Economist, expensive paintings are whateconomists call positional goods They are valuable because other people cant have them With other goods, a higher price reduces demandBut art turns down the laws of economics “When the goods that is really being purchased is evidence that the buyer has paid a lot, price increases cause demand to boom, explained the articleThats why scarcity and authenticity are so important in the art market Artists sometimes forget thisDemien Hirst, the British pop artist, is famous for his spot paintings But they dropped in value when it became clear that they had been produced in quantities so vast that nobody knew how many were out thereThe art market lost faith in these paintings because no one could be sure which of them were authentic and which were fake67The first paragraph is meant to tell the readers that _ Amovies and literature will be popular with art involved in themBart crimes are as interesting and exciting in reality as in movies CGambit is a good movie with art forgery as the major theme Dreal art crime in reality can be adapted into popular films68Who is amused and satisfied to see the rich buy forged works of art? I only referred to her as “My Aunt Fannie” because the name always made my father laugh and gave my mother cause to look angrily at both of us-at me for being disrespectful of my elder and at my father for encouraging my bad behavior. As a young woman, my mother had worked in the kitchen of a large Victorian farmhouse owned by Fannie Cratty. During those years my mother helped Aunt Fannie make the best blueberry jam ever tasted by anyone in Glenfield. Aunt Fannie was well known for her jam and for never sharing the recipe with another living soul. Even though my mother knew the recipe by heart, as long as Aunt Fannie was alive (and she lived to be ninety-six!), she never made the jam without Ms. Cratty in our kitchen to direct the process and preserve the secret. Each August, when blueberry season would roll around, my mother would prepare me for Aunt Fannies visit. It was vital that I should be on my best behavior. After all, the woman was old, wealthy, very strict with children. Whenever she was at the house, I didnt need to be reminded to guard my thoughts and watch my tongue. One year, after I had been particularly helpful with the jam process, Aunt Fannie gave me a quarter(25分硬币) and then made me promise that I would never spend it. “Hold onto this quarter,” she said, “and someday you will be rich. I still have my very first quarter, given to me by my grandfather.” It had obviously worked for her. So, I kept the 1938-quarter into a small box, put it in my dresser drawer, and waited to become rich.I now have the blueberry jam recipe and the quarter from Aunt Fannie. In peoples eye Aunt Fannies success was due to that secret recipe. But to me, it was just a common recipe. Neither has significantly contributed to my wealth, but I keep them as reminders to hold onto the valuable things in life. Money can make you feel rich for a while, but it is the relationships and the memories of time spent with friends and family that truly leave you wealthy. And that is a fortune that anyone can build. 51. Paragraph 2 implies that my mother . A. used to forget the secret blueberry jam recipe B. wanted to show off her excellent cooking skills C. was unable to make the jam without Aunt Fannies direction D. tried to convince Aunt Fannie that she would keep the secret 52. A. she had kept her first quarter B. she had never wasted money C. she had worked very hard D. she had kept her promise53. The author thinks that we can feel wealthy if we . A. share our wealth with othersB. have good fortune and moneyC. know the secret of a jam recipe D. own lasting love and friendship54. Which would be the best title for this passage? A.
