Objectives:By the end of the session,1. students will be able to understand and use the following phrases: dress up, take ones place, do a good job. 2. students will be able to write a movie review.Learning focus:1. With the teachers help, students learn to use the phrases.2. With the help of pictures and patterns presented, students learn to talk about movies.3. With the help of the reading material, students learn to write their movie review.Anticipated difficulties: 1. Some phrases like dress up, take ones place, do a good job, etc. might obstruct students from understanding the reading materials as well as having difficulties filling in the blanks.2. Students will probably find it difficult to write a movie review.Solutions: 1. Use pictures to help students with understanding new words and phrases.2. Teacher gives models before each pattern is practiced and more situations are designed for students.3. Before class, play a movie called Steamboat Willie.2. Greeting and talk about the movie at the beginning of the class by asking :What kind of movie is it?What do you think of the movie?At the same time, remind students of the kinds of movies and adjectives used to describe opinions about movies. Divide the adjectives into positive and negative ones: exciting, interesting, relaxing, enjoyable, fantastic, wonderful, meaningful, educational.; meaningless, boring, scary. 1. Interest students,help them be ready for class and lead in the topic.2. To revise what students have learned and at the same time help them understand how to use the adjectives to express their opinions and get ready to use them in the movie review.Presentation3. Present a patten: Steamboat Willie is an interesting cartoon. It is about a funny mouse, Mickey. to show the teachers opinion about the movie. And then ask students to express their opinions about different movies with the pattern showed: _ is a/ an _ _.It is about _.4. T: We know Mickey is still very popular. On Halloween, some kids will dress up like Mickey. What does he/ she dress up like?Some may dress up like other characters, but they cant easily take Mickeys place in American culture. 5. T: We know many Chinese cartoon characters. But do you know a famous Chinese character. It has been made into a movie by Disney. T: look at this picture. What does she look like? (She looks like a man.)Why does she dress up like this? (She takes her fathers place to fight in the army)Zhao Wei was in another movie and she played Mulans role. Do you think she is a good actress? (She did a good job.)3. Teacher gives the model of the target patterns and asks students to practice with their own ideas. It helps students get ready for the final writing.4. With the help of pictures, students get to understand and practise using the phrase: dress up like.At the same time, show the importance of Mickey in America culture and present take ones place.5. More chances to help students understand and use dress up like and take ones place, as well as do a good job. How do you know that?As for the 4th question, help them to find out how the writer express his good feelings about the movie. Then help them to find more words or expressions:1) .words:exciting,(interesting,relaxing,enjoyable,fantastic,wonderful,meaningful,educational.;meaningless,boring,scary.)2) .expressions(ways of giving suggestions): Present the following expressions (If you want to learn something, dont miss the movie./If you want to relax yourself, be sure to watch movie./If want to have fun, stay at home and read books.) by asking students to match the suggestions with the beginning: Panda is a boring action movie. / Tom and Jerry is a relaxing cartoon. / The Rape of Nanking is an educational documentary. 8. Ask students to divide the passage into paras, and ask why they think so.6. Help students to know about the movie Mulan. Give students time to share answers can help them exchange ideas and be more confident to report.7.1)Check students understanding by checking their answers.
