Unit10 Id like some noodles. Section B Period1. Material Analysis:“Id like some noodles.” is the tenth unit of the whole book, which talks about how to order food. I plan to teach this unit in five lessons. And its the third period of it. In Section A, we have learned the new words about different kinds of food; students have known some basic sentences which can be used in ordering food, such as, “What kind of noodles would you like?”, “ What size would you like?”, “ Id like beef and tomato noodles, please.”. This period is aimed to help students better use the learned words and structures. Theyre expected to know the differences of “I like .but I dont like.” “Id like to have.” in a true context. Besides, 1c is aimed to improve students listening ability and to review the learned words and sentences at the same time. It also gives students a good example to learn how to order food on phone in a true context. Students Analysis:1. Analysis of students ability gained1) Students have learned the words: noodle, mutton, beef, cabbage, potato, special, large, order, sixe, bowl, meat2) Students have learned the sentences: -What kind of noodles would you like?-Id like-What size would you like?-Id like a large bowl of.-Would you like some drinks?- Yes, please. /No, thanks.2. Analysis of students ability to be gained1) Students will know the new words and phrases: dumpling, porridge, pancake, one large green tea, two small orange juices2) Students will learn how to use listening strategies, listening for the general and specific information. 3) Students will experience the differences of like and would like, and try to order food with the learned words and sentence forms. Teaching Aims:1. Language aims:1) Students will master the following words and phrases: dumpling, porridge, pancake, one large green tea, two small orange juices2) Students will be able to use the following structures:I like.and. but I dont like .or .What would you like?Id like.What kind of .would you like?Would you like some.?Yes, please. /No, thanks.Whats your address?2. Ability aims:1) Students will be able to get the general and specific information through listening task. 2) Students will be able to work in pairs to ask and answer using the key sentences in this lesson.3) Students will be able to make a conversation about how to order food on phone.3. Learning strategies:1) Students are expected to get useful information from learning the topic map. 2) Students will be able to form the habit of getting general and specific information from listening.3) Students will be trained to take notes quickly and properly when listening.4) Students will be able to imitate the intonation and ton of spoken English.4. Teaching Procedures:Step1 RevisionStudents will be asked to review what theyve learned. Sample:A: Hello! What kind of noodles would you like?B: Id like.noodles.A: What size bowl of noodles would you like?B: Id like a .bowl of noodles.T: Good morning, boys and girls.Ss: Good morning, Miss Jiang.T: Today Id like to introduce a noodle house for you. It serves different kinds of noodles. (show a picture)Whats the name of the Noodle House?S1: Pos Noodle House.T: Great. And there are some specials in it. Whats special 1?S2: T: They look so delicious. Why not have a try in Pos Noodle House? For me, Id like beef and carrot noodles. How about you?S3: T: And what size bowl of noodles would you like?S3: .T: I see. Could you please ask your partner about the noodles he/shed like? Try to make a conversation in this way.Design purpose: Students will be able to review the expressions of different kinds of noodles. Through pair work, they can get known how to order noodles well. It can also lead to new words learning.Transitional sentences: T: Well, besides the four specials, you can also try some new foods in Pos Noodle House.Step 2 Presentation 1. New words learningStudents will learn the new words by giving some pictures about food and drinks. Theyll be trained to read in raising tone and falling tone. Sample:A: Whats this?B: Its porridge.A: And what s this? B: Its a glass of orange juice.A: How about now? (show two glasses)B: Two glasses of orange juice.A: Great. We can also say two orange juices.Design purpose: Students will be able to learn new words in this way, and some of them, such as two orange juices, will help them understand better while listening.Transitional sentences: T: You can also enjoy some meat and vegetables in this noodle house. 2. Practice Students will be asked to use the words and sentences weve learnt by ordering food in Pos Noodle House.T: Among them, what would you like?S1: .T: Would you like any vegetables?S1: .T: What else?S1: .T: OK. I see. And how about others? What would you like? Try to ask and answer in pairs like this.Pair work:-Good afternoon, what would you like?-Id like.-What kind of.would you like?-Id like.-Would you like some.?-Yes, please./No, thanks.Design purpose: Through the pair work, students will become active and more familiar with how to ask for the food they want, and answer the food they have, which will get them ready for listening. And in this step students will be given a context to use “Id like.”Transitional sentences: T: I think you can enjoy yourself in Pos Noodle House. Lets look at this group of children. It seems theyre having a good time, too.Step 3 Before listening1. PredictionIn this step, students will be asked to predict what the children are doing.T: What are they doing? Can you guess?S1: Maybe theyre having a party.T: What can they enjoy in the party?Ss: A lot of delicious food.T: Right. What do they have? Lets match the words in 1a with the pictures.Design purpose: Through prediction, students will be led to study the top map which can help them to express themselves with the learned knowledge and develop their mind at the same time.2. 1a Match the words with the pictures. Students will be asked to check the answers in this way: Picture b is meat .Transitional sentences: T: Among them, I like fish, meat and pancakes, but I dont like onions or green tea. How about you? What do you like?3. Look and learn Students will be able to show their likes and dislikes by making a conversation like this:A: What do you like? B: I like., . and.A: What dont you like? B: I dont like. , .or .Design purpose: In this step, students will be able to know how to show their likes and dislikes in another context. Theyll pay attention to the use of “and” and “or”.Transitional sentences: T: (Circle a boy in the picture) The boy likes the food so much that after party, he still wants to have some with his family. What does he do next? Lets listen to the tape.Step 4 While listening1. Listen for general informationStudents are asked to listen for the first time and answer three questions.T: Lets listen to a conversation. While you are listening, try to answer the following questions.Whats the relationship between them?A. boss and staff(员工) B. waiter and customerWhats the boy doing now?Where do you think the boy is?Design purpose: This task is aimed to teach students how to get the general information by catching key words. Students are supposed to know whats happening, where the speakers are and the relationship of them, which are closely connected with examinations.Transitional sentences: T: The boy is talking on the phone to order food. So the food can be sent to him later. As a waiter, what does he have to know about the boy?2. Listen for detailsStudents are required to listen for the second time and fill in the order form. Before listening, try to help students learn the new word-address.T: As a waiter, what does he have to know about the boy?S1: He has to know what the boy wants.S2: He has to know the boys telephone.S3: He has to know where the boy lives.T: Great. That means he has to know his address. (Teach the new word)OK, lets listen to it again and try to help the waiter to get some information about the boy. If you cant take notes in time, you can write down some short forms. For example, you can first write ch for chicken, then finish it after listening. ORDER FORMAddress: 15 North Street Telephone number: _Order:Dishes: _, fish, _Dumplings: 12 beef and _Soup: one _Drinks: one large _ and _small _ juices.Price: He needs to pay yuan for this order.Design purpose: Students are expected to get key words in this step, and learn the skill of taking notes. And its the right time to use what theyve learned before. Through this step, students will be able to form the habit of how to get specific information from listening and they will be trained to take notes quickly and properly when listening. The questions before listening are aimed to help them know how to make a telephone order, which will help them get ready to make their own dialogue later.Transitional sentences: T: Next well follow the tape to know the conversation better.3. ImitationStudents are asked to follow and imitate. Design purpose: Help students to better understand the passage and its also a good chance to improve their spoken English by imitating. This step will help students to get ready to make a similar conversation. Transitional sentences: T: Now do you know what the boy wants to have? 4. SummaryStudents are supposed to give the boys information quickly after reading the listening material.T: So what would thy boy like?S1: .T: And whats his address?S2: .T: OK. Whats his telephone number?S3: .T: So how much does he have to pay?S4: .Design purpose: Students are expected to get the information fluently and its a way to check whether they have totally understood the passage. Transitional sentences: T: Now we know what a good waiter should know when somebody is ordering food. I think you can do it well too. Lets have a try. Step 4 After listening Students will be asked to make a telephone order by themselves.Before practicing, the teacher will ask a good student to make a model with her.T: Well, suppo
