Introduction This document describes how to use the 5G F02 EVB Evaluation Board It is an assistant tool for engineers to develop and test 5G F02 modules which are designed in F02 form factor 1 1 Safety Information The following safety precautions must be observed during all phases of operation such as usage service or repair of any cellular terminal or mobile incorporating with 5G F02 module Manufacturers of the cellular terminal should send the following safety information to users and operating personnel and incorporate these guidelines into all manuals supplied with the product If not so we assume no liability for customers failure to comply with these precautions Full attention must be given to driving at all times in order to reduce the risk of an accident Using a mobile while driving even with a handsfree kit causes distraction and can lead to an accident Please comply with laws and regulations restricting the use of wireless devices while driving Switch off the cellular terminal or mobile before boarding an aircraft The operation of wireless appliances in an aircraft is forbidden to prevent interference with communication systems If the device offers an Airplane Mode then it should be enabled prior to boarding an aircraft Please consult the airline staff for more restrictions on the use of wireless devices on boarding the aircraft Wireless devices may cause interference on sensitive medical equipment so please be aware of the restrictions on the use of wireless devices when in hospitals clinics or other healthcare facilities Cellular terminals or mobiles operating over radio signals and cellular network cannot be guaranteed to connect in all possible conditions for example with unpaid bills or with an invalid U SIM card When emergent help is needed in such conditions please remember using emergency call In order to make or receive a call the cellular terminal or mobile must be switched on in a service area with adequate cellular signal strength The cellular terminal or mobile contains a transmitter and receiver When it is ON it receives and transmits radio frequency signals RF interference can occur if it is used close to TV set radio computer or other electric equipment In locations with potentially explosive atmospheres obey all posted signs to turn off wireless devices such as your phone or other cellular terminals Areas with potentially explosive atmospheres include fueling areas below decks on boats fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities areas where the air contains chemicals or particles such as grain dust or metal powders etc China Mobile IoT Co Ltd 9 2 General Overview China Mobile supplies 5G F02 EVB for designers to develop applications based on 5G F02 module The EVB can test all functionalities of these modules 2 1 F02 EVB shown as follows Power interface F02 interface USB interface SIM interface It also provides information about button switches status indication LEDs and test points to help customers use the 5G F02 EVB 4 1 Power Interface J701 J0801 Need to Update Pics The F02 EVB can be powered by a lithium battery pack through connecting with the battery connector J701 or by USB receptacle J0801 on the Interface TBD Need to Update Pics Figure 8 Power Interface China Mobile IoT Co Ltd 17 4 3 USB Interface J0801 The USB interface of 5G F02 complies with USB 2 0 specification USB 2 0 supports high speed 480 Mbps and full speed 12 Mbps modes The USB interface is used for AT command communication data transmission GNSS NMEA output software debugging firmware upgrade The F02 EVB provides a USB type C interface J0801 for connection with a host device The USB data lines D and D are connected directly to the F02 module The VBUS lines can be used for USB connection detection and EVB power provides a series of test points They can help customers to obtain the corresponding waveform of some signals The following figures and tables show test points Figure 13 Test Point J502 Table 7 Pin TP1203 to trigger FORCED BOOT China Mobile IoT Co Ltd 22 5 Operation Procedures Illustration Need to Update This chapter introduces how to use the 5G F02 EVB for testing and evaluation of 5G F02 modules 5 1 Power on the Module Need to Update 1 Connect the module to the EVB Insert the module into the connectors J1100 on EVB and then fix the other end of the module with screws 2 Insert a U SIM card into the U SIM card connector on EVB and connect the antennas to the module 3 Connect the EVB with a lithium battery pack or connect the EVB to PC via USB Typc C cable 4 Switch S1201 PWRKEY to ON state the module will be powered on automatically and then D1101 will be light up when RF function is enabled Table 8 Indication of D101 D102 and D103 Reference Number State Description D1101 Blue LED ON Red LED OFF Green LED ON China Mobile IoT Co Ltd 23 5 2 Communication Via USB Type C Interface Need to Update 1 Power on the module according to the procedure mentioned in Chapter 5 1 2 Connect the EVB and the PC with USB cable through USB Type C interface and then run the driver disk on PC to install the USB driver For details about USB driver installation Figure 14 USB Ports 3 Install and then use the CMCC Serial tools provided by CMCC to realize communication between the module and the PC The following figure shows the COM Port Setting field on QCOM select correct COM Port USB AT Port which is shown in above figure and set correct Baudrate such as 115200bps Figure 15 COM Port Setting Field on QCOM USB AT Port Connection China Mobile IoT Co Ltd 24 5 3 Firmware Upgrade Need to Update The firmware of the module is upgraded via USB port by default Please follow the procedures below to upgrade the firmware Install and open the firmware upgrade tool QFlash on PC and then power on the module according to the procedure mentioned in Chapter 5 1 Click the COM Port dropdown list and select the USB DM port Click the Load FW Files button to choose the firmware package Click the Start the Module Need to Update The emergency reset option is only used in case of emergency For example the software does not respond for more than 5s due to some serious problems Press the button S1202 RESET for
